Excited to see the new windless in action at Cuyler Harbor! Looking forward to the East Coast epic!

Thanks Mark. Yeah me too. Lord knows I’ve had my share of windlass woes so I’m ready to close the book on that chapter. The east coast trip was awesome. Stay tuned!

Andy, I'm not sure if you finished installing. You may have to put a diverter on the bow roller to the gypsy so the chain doesn't jump. Some of those old Catalina 30s have the anchor windlass in the well, so the path is straight. My guess is you reseached this on the Catalina forums. I read Keeldraggers comment, and he mentioned Cuyler. Been there a dozen times over the years. Can be tricky. I either go to coho or bounce from Santa Rosa. Really depends on the weather. Give me a shout when you plan on going. I have a few charters scheduled for August and one of the guests wants to possibly dive there. A celebrity of sorts.😅 It's much easier for me because I am in Ventura. You are really doing a nice job on that 30 revitalizing it.

Hi there, no I haven’t finished yet. I’m as slow as molasses on this project. I’m aware of the chain angle to the gypsy and if needed I plan on welding a “fence” to the bow roller to keep the chain from jumping or rubbing the forestay chainplate. I won’t know exactly what to do until I see it in action and see what issues I’ll need to resolve so first things first and that is to get it working and hauling some chain and rode. Until then…we’ll see. Thanks for the advice. Cheers!

Major technology upgrade with the electric windlass! Also looking forward to the east coast voyage. Those IP440’s are gorgeous, chainplate issues notwithstanding. It always puzzled me that a brilliant naval architect like Bob Johnson chose to place the chain plates in an oxygen-starved environment (embedded in FRP). D’Oh!

Thanks James. I’m looking forward to the electric windlass, it’s going to be a game changer for me and my destinations. Cheers!

i'm the same way when it comes to overthinking things like that. like i still need to drill the hole in the roof if my SUV for the cables to my solar panels, but i'm thinking ill just run those through the door for now cuz i'm running out off time if i wanna make it there for the Auction on Saturday, and i still have a small gas leak i need to fix, and gotta rotate my tires and change my brakes, and do an oil change..... hahaha all the unfinished projects adding up at the last minute
