I kept thinking back to a small figure I bought a while back while watching this that cost me about $300, and watching you work only solidified my initial understanding with the cost. Like, your working with something that's large and easy to hold, and I can only imagine how long it took for you to make this. What I have is very small, and detailed, and likely took just as long to make because of this

xD you can also use rubbing alcohol (or clay softener) and a Q-tip or brush to smooth the surface, and it will also remove the tiny dust pieces. But if you paint it the paint itself will cover the fingerprints ;)

My favourite wyvern designs are from a game called Ark Survival Evolved's their models they are just really cool (I know there are some epic movie wyverns but they always confuse them with dragons so I'm sticking to what I at least know is a wyvern ha ha) Good luck with your art doll :)

I don't know if this is going to help, but I make art dolls and I get faux fur at Joanne's for about 5 dollars!

This is a year late, but good faux fur (luxury shag is the most common, and has a 1-2 inch fur length) can be around 20 usd for a square yard of fur. But art dolls are small so if you just plan on coloring it all a yard of white fur will go towards many projects.

It's really good, the form of the body is very slim and clean looking

The body style is that of a Chinese Lung Dragon or a Japanese Ryu, sometimes spelt Ryuu Dragon. A more serpentine and wingless Dragon. At first I was getting a Jackle vibe from the head till you added the horns. Then I was getting a hell hound Houndoom vibe. Crazy how some fur and tendril like wiskers can change the final look of the head look.

Sounds like the sheer white acrylic was for minis or tabletop figurines. It's good for tiny details that thicker paint would goop up.

What size of the armature plastic do you use for the spine? I plan to make a long dragon boi soon and want to try armature plastic for it

I believe I used 3/16 for this guy if you’re making a bigger one I’d recommend 1/4 if it’s gonna be smaller 1/8 is a good option!

Man that cosclay stuff looks awesome. Would love for you to do a sort of overview on it? Does it take paint well? How well does it flex? Is it a softer or firmer clay? Cant wait for it to be commercially available

Cos clay is amazing. Yes it takes paint and pastels well and you can bend the he'll out of it without it breaking.they have soft and firm cosclay. ....it will be available after February sometime I think. I have really bad arthritis and it'd do easy to condition the soft and sculpting with it is a dream. I was a beta tester. I love the clay.

The clay is flexible, in the sense that you can bend it without breaking, but it is still cured so it will not change its shape or be squished and whatnot!

Looks good! I was just wondering why you didn't use glass eyes? Also I have a little advice to be helpful. Not to be hard or anything. The head was gray, & you wanted to be white. Why not use white clay? The legs were flesh clay, & then you painted them. The colors of clay work better than paint. I have a box of white clay, and can add mica powder, eye makeup, inks, and paint.

I didn’t have small enough cabochons for the eyes so I just sculpted them. I don’t use premo, sculpey lll, or fimo and don’t like using original sculpey and those are the only clays I know of that come in white. The clay I prefer just happens to be flesh toned and grey but grey is naturally a good primer color the issue was using the wrong type of paint.

for white base paint, get a heavy bodied acrylic. Liquitex black gesso is a nice primer sometimes if youre doing dark. Their white gesso is trash though 🫠

This is so glorious and harmonious! You are so talented and your style is so lovely. Out of curiousity have you ever/do you ever flock/carefully fur the faces? I was wondering if you have and found that it interfered with the lovely details, or if you were just not interested in it. I was thinking I'd try to follow mostly your tequnique but use a bit of flocking on the face, but if you've tried that and don't advise it I'll try it just as you do. I love your work and I think that all your animals are so beautiful and whimsical. The little random floral bits and pieces do add a touch of magic.

I do flock and fur faces from time to time! It’s ups the realism on dolls but not the easiest to paint and would only recommend airbrushing if you don’t use the color you already want :)
