DIY winterizing our Sea Ray 400 SedanBridge water system and air conditioning system. Watch the continuation of our DIY boat winterizing series as we perform the water system winterizing process on Calypso II. It is critical if you live in areas where the temperature freezes, to fill your domestic water system including the water heater, and the ac cooling with antifreeze. We use the pink -50 degree product for our area in Marion MA. We buy it by the case from West Marine for about $4/gallon.

We love the ocean and boating! We cruise in our 2001 Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge, Calypso II, on the South Coast of Massachusetts and Cape Cod and the Island. Join us on our adventures - we share favorite ports and places to visit, favorite boating products, and how-tos.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Our current boat - Calypso II, a 2001 Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge:
In 2019, we wanted a new boat which was bigger and had a longer range, so we targeted 40-footers with diesel power to achieve both of these goals. With our criteria and budget, we searched for a diesel-powered Sea Ray 400 Sedanbridge 2001 or newer. After scouring the Internet we found a boat on the Chesapeake Bay which would become Calypso II.
+ Specs - 2001 Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge:
• Length: 41 feet
• Beam: 14 feet
• Draft: 4 feet
• Fuel: diesel 350 gal
• Power: 2 Caterpillar 3126 inboard straight-shaft diesel engines 350hp each
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Our first Sea Ray - Calypso I:
Our boating life started when we looked for a motor cruiser around 30 feet long. We liked Sea Ray because of its style and quality. We noticed a boat listed on CraigsList and went to take a look. We found a Sea Ray 310 Sundancer that met our requirements and seemed in good shape. After a survey was completed, we bought the boat and rechristened her “Calypso”, with all appropriate rituals to the sea spirits for good luck.
+ Specs - 2000 Sea Ray 310 Sundancer:
• Length: 33.9 feet
• Beam: 11.6 feet
• Draft: 3.5 feet
• Fuel: gas 200 gals
• Power: 2 Mercruiser 5.7 Horizon freshwater cooled V-drive inboard gas engines 300hp each
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Where we cruise:
Calypso II is moored in Sippican Harbor in Marion, MA - in Buzzards Bay. We use our boat to explore the islands, ports, coves and harbors of this amazing place.
For overnight boating, we often head to Cuttyhunk Island, Martha’s Vineyard Island or Nantucket Island, off the coast of Massachusetts. In 2021, we plan to head to Maine to explore some of the beautiful harbors and ports of Southern and Mid-Coast Maine.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Our commitment to the sea:
Because we enjoy boating and the fun it brings our family, we are committed to protecting the bays, harbors and oceans we cruise on, as well the ones we dream about. Starting with following no-discharge rules, not using disposable plastic bottles and only using biodegradable products on Calypso II, we try to do our part to preserve this invaluable resource.

Did you do the rear shower? Water inlet and output in the stern? Hose line in engine bay? Drain hot water heater? May need it this weekend!! Also for the ac I use a trac flush cap. So much easier... Also I wet dry vac out the sump so it doesn't mold over. Lastly when you wake the system pull the sink aerators prior to running. Let all the sediment flow out, trust me. Saves you cleaning time...

On the water system, did you check the tap in the trunk? Also, it might have been a good idea to get rid of any drain water in the sump. Regarding engine anodes, the CATs have 11 each, including the 2 in the transmission cooler. Plus the single anode in the generator. So, a total of 23 engine anodes. I have a model year 2000 of the same boat.

Great point. I need to get a wet vac to suck it all out. I bought a "kit" that is supposed to contain all the anodes for the engines. I have to see how many are included. I contacted the local Cat dealer and they sent me diagrams of where the anodes are. Where do you keep your boat?

@@CruisingCalypso Hey Calypso, I keep my boat in Orillia Ontario, Canada. It is a fresh water boat. Year 2000, with CAT 3126s. The 3126s have 11 sac anodes per engine. The good thing for you with salt water, is that the CAT anodes are zinc, pretty sure, and are for salt water. I have a heck of a time getting anodes that are best for fresh water. Regarding the water system, I removed the ice maker from the cockpit in favor of more storage, so I didn't include that in my earlier comments. The water for that would need to be purged too. Question: Are you a member of www.clubsearay.com yet? This site is an enormous source of information for our boats. There is a thread dedicated to our boat model under the 'Sport Yacht/Yacht forum that is an ENORMOUS source of information. There are over 260 articles written by owners over the past approx 10 years. I can't say enough about this site! You can browse a bit as a guest, or sign up for $0 to allow you to ask questions. Then if you are generous you can contribute for the cost of an oil filter. I can't tell you how may of my questions have been answered quickly, OR just by doing a search. There is even a dedicated diesel forum, with plenty of articles about the CATs. I find the alternate site ownersclub.searay.com to be not nearly as informative.
