Here are some handmade DIY wood Christmas trees that are the perfect project for the beginner woodworker or DIYer looking to make some homemade Christmas decorations or some Christmas gifts!!!
Here's some links to some of the Tools I Used. If you use the links I get a small commission to help fund my videos and new projects.
Here's the sander I use. It makes sanding these small projects so much faster and easier.
amzn.to/4743rvp
Here's the sanding belts. they are way cheaper than home depot and you can buy the individual grits you want.

If you cut the tops to a point, you can clamp using a small block with a Vee cut into it. The top of the tree goes into the vee cut.

Usually I don't like long videos, but I think I really learned a lot of things from this one. You didn't talk over my head, you pointed out little tricks, and things to look out for, and I felt comfortable learning something new. I'd like to learn more, so I'm going to subscribe and then take a walk over to your Etsy shop to see what's available. Lol Thanks for all the great advice 😉🇨🇦

To keep from having to clamp everyone that I made, I use two small spots of CA glue to hole it together while the titebond dries

Just add a pinch of salt to your glued surface, it keeps the wood from moving to much when you clamp it.

I like these. Just curious why you wouldn't make the trees one whole piece and just cut them out on a scroll or band saw rather than cutting all those pieces and angles, and then having to glue, clean up etc? I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the grain pattern? Not a criticism at all, just trying to understand your thought process.
@jascogoods
@jascogoods 3 ай бұрын
I appreciate your comment, I take no offense to your question at all. You are correct, its partially because I like the way the grain changes at different level. The Smaller 1x2 pieces of wood have a tighter grain pattern. I was selling these on etsy and there's less material waste so more profit. I could get 3 sets of 3 different sized trees from one 1x2x8. Plus I wanted to make this video for beginners that might only have a hand saw.

I liked the detailed info. Wish you had shown the staining. How long did you leave the stain on before wiping it off? Then you re-stained? Also, did you clear coat at the end, and if so, what did you use? Thanks bunches!!
@jascogoods
@jascogoods Жыл бұрын
Hello, With the green water based stain i had to wipe off the stain immediately because it dries and gets tacky really fast. yes i did clear coat with 2 coats of bear matte finish water based polyurethane. I will do a stain tutorial for you when I get a chance!

for the big one i just cut a triangle out of the 1x4 and measured the bottom. Then i subtracted 2 inches from that measurement and that's the size i made the small end of the next tear. i dont have one in front of me but when i get my hands on one i'll give you the exact size.

I was really intrested in the project but it was so hard to follow seems to be all over the place with the info. but I guess the important part was the angles and measurements which I got I wish you would have given a measurement for the top piece.
@terryjoestoll

I think the size of the top piece is going to be fixed when you cut the 30 degree angle just depends on the width of your board then add 3/4" to each subsequent piece.

How long is the 1x2 in length? My vehicle's mas length is 6 foot, so is I have a 48 inch length board x 2 with that make sets?
@jascogoods
@jascogoods Жыл бұрын
i normally buy 8 foot sections, i dont think home depot sells a shorter piece in the 1x2 i use. however they will cut whatever you want in half for you or they normally have a handsaw in the baseboard / trim department and a cart setup for cutting your own trim. This should be ease to hand cut because its only 2 inch softwood. I used to carry a circular say and a hand saw before i had a truck, just so i could cut stuff like this. hope that helps

Hey Chris, thanks for the suggestions and words of support. The whole process time varies depending on the stain I use. I could make a set in one day if its a water base stain but some of the oil base stains take 24 hours to dry. Even the ones that say dries in 2 hours sometimes say wait 24 hours to clearcoat with a with a water based clear coat.
