This video has generated some controversy due to the use of Epoxy on a cutting board. Despite using only a small amount for the joints and using food grade epoxy. Please comment on what you think about it. I would like to know your opinion for future projects.
@sheslop888

People love to have concerns like this. It makes them feel like they know something. "Food grade" finish is a marketing ploy. Once any finish is cured, it's perfectly safe. How about plastic plates? Are they safe? Plastic cutting boards? How about the plastic film that your food comes wrapped in? Is that safe? What is the mass produced wooden cutting board that you buy at the store finished with? Does anyone know? Lacquer would be my guess. What is your fry pan coated with? Or your baking pans? People are going to question the finish on the wooden cutting board that their salad was prepped on, and then pour mass produced salad dressing on it from a plastic bottle without a second thought.

Outstanding as usual. I have butcherblock countertops in my kitchen. I have found a product that is better than pure mineral oil, it's called Boos block oil. Butcherblock countertops are one of those things that you always wanted but regret getting because of the maintenance and staining problems. The Boos oil lasts longer and is easier to get off your hands. Thanks for the videos. 😎

What a beauty! And was pleased you used black resin… the contrast was wonderful. But “juice grooves…” I understand most board builders like yourself do them, but I would never carve a roast beef on a wonderful board like this, which is the only time the grooves might be useful. And it cuts out almost 2 inches of both length and width of usable surface area!

My family rarely if ever does roast beef or other large cuts that have juice run-off...that said, I was thinking how useful those juice grooves would be as we cut up a whole watermelon at least once a week in the summer.
@MaxPaws
@MaxPaws Жыл бұрын
@@johngrace199 Even watermelon doesn’t generate enough juice that it overruns my cutting board. If I HAVE to use a board with juice grooves, then I’d only want them on 3 sides. I use my board next to my sink and always slide the peelings/scraps/whatever directly into the sink from the board. A groove on that edge would trap the scraps instead of letting me cleanly sweep them into the sink. And even on those other 3 sides, I’d want only a subtle hint of a groove. But hey, that’s just me.

Only think I would change is using a thinner bandsaw blade for easier precision cuts. Looks great though!

How durable is the epoxy to knife work? How likely is to chip?
@marmotaworks

It's almost the same as the plastic cutting boards that all restaurants use.

You can sharpen chainsaw chains on the saw very quickly with just a hand file. Few quick strokes per tooth, and good to go !
