The Wannabe Craftsman

Жыл бұрын

I have quite a few heavy tools in my "shop", and they are HEAVY
So instead of spending $50 to go to the chiropractor took get some work done this this week, I'll spend that on woodworking , and started making a flip cart!
Every flip cart I looked up was made of plywood, Sure it would be stronger and look nicer.... but I only have 50 bucks, So 2x4's it is!

Love your sense of humor. That work table in background is a repurposed dining table … looks like something I would do. Hubby laughs at me (waste not, want not) 😏. Thrifty cause woods expensive. Was looking for a 2x4 flip top, glad I found this. Awesome!

Thats exactly what this table was made from me and my wife got married and had extra "stuff" so instead of throwing out one of the tables... why not turn it into a workbench?!?! We both hate waste, and yes, wood can be so friggen expensive!

DUDE! apparently the U tube algorithm had a brain fart and promoted your vid up in my watch list over all those fancy-smancy "pro" tubies. And I am sooo glad it did. It felt like I was watching myself in the shop (creepy. maybe.). Seriously I enjoyed the video and the idea of NOT spending a ton of cash on a shop cart that does nothing except hold a tool. Much rather spend that moolah on important stuff like building nice things or beer. Now a subscriber I will be watching you... er I mean watching all your other videos 🙂Thank you.

nice, best of luck. Tip I had to learn the hard way for this... be smart about how you are going to feed the cord through the pipe. I didn't plan it beforehand, and it doesn't show, but that task took me many many tries and hours to do such a simple thing because of the stiffness of the cord and the small passage it has to make a ninety degree turn in.
@rickykraus7450
@rickykraus7450 9 ай бұрын
I’m going to make one just like yours also. But instead of using a single pipe I’ll use 2 pipes a T and screw them together. Will be easier to put the cord in.

I have a couple of dumb questions, I apologize in advance. #1. Are those 1xs you used for the tops? #2 what diameter pipe did you use?
@thewannabecraftsman
@thewannabecraftsman 4 ай бұрын
the entire build is from 2x4s, the first few shots you can see me ripping down the 2x4s in half to get two 3/4" boards which is what they are made of. 1" diameter pipe if memory serves, and i wish I got 1.5. Took me FOREVER to get the wire through the hole in the pipe, was to rigid of a wire, and too sharp of a turn.

Still works like a charm, had to remove the planer from it to repair it when making that MTG card sleeve, and was slightly worried about reinstalling it, maybe the threaded inserts/ t nut or whatever its called would fall into the cavity or get pushed in as I tried to re install the bolts mounting it to the wood. went without a hitch though. Still use it weekly at the least

Don’t be afraid to ask for a discount, especially if you find a piece that has a chunk missing out of it. I found a piece that had a section that was messed up along the edge. Asked for manager and boom 30% discount. Still not cheap but every bit counts.

I was referring to your initial comments about the crazy prices for plywood that are being used for these carts. I had found a piece of plywood I needed for a different project that had a defect and I asked the manager of the big box store and got a 30% discount. I'm getting ready to make one of these for my Jointer and my planer and I'll be using 2x4's to try and keep the price reasonable. @@thewannabecraftsman

Plywood is expensive if you get it from a large retailer. You just gotta be smart about out how you get it. I built one of these out of a 8'x4' 3/4" sheet I got from OfferUp for like 20$

Nice build, great to see an out of the box creative design. This has changed my thinking of how I want to build one. Am confused about the wood used, the two deck pieces are glued up 1-bys (3/4 × 4 ?). You didn't include the cost for them. Regardless nice project.

those are part of the 2x4s, I ripped the 2x4s down and glued them up to make that. I realize there is no footage of me doing it, this was one of the first videos I filmed, so there were a lot of mistakes in the filming and editing, and was sill learning.
