I went all out (for a shop of my size) and bought a 10” Jointer and 13” Planer from Wahuda. They take up space and need to be bolted down so I built a flip top cart to hold both of them at once! It turned out pretty well I think.

Awesome stuff. If you want to learn this trade, this is the place to start. And I’ve been doing this 40 years.

Great idea. Never occurred to me to out a jointer and planer together on a flip top.

Thank you. It works well, the only hangup is if you're doing multiple pieces you have to do the jointing on every board before you can plane anything.

Great video and the first flip cart I have seen where a jointer and planer on the same cart. Which makes perfect sense.

Not just on the same cart but in the correct orientation too. Exactly what I was looking for our larger 8”Cutech jointer and DW735 planer. They are heavy like yours. How is it holding up? And do you have plans to sell? Great work!

Well done and you did things in the right order. I built the flip cart first because I need some plywood to move my gun safe so I bought some sanded plywood to lay down in the pickup. I laughed when I saw how close of clearance on the Wahuda when experiencing the same thing. I did the same thing,shimmed out the top with some washer. Also, like your locking mechanism. I may change out my slide bolts using the same locking mechanism. Thanks for the great video, I am now new subscriber.😊

Bravo! Really nice build and attention to detail. Thanks for posting! I'm inspired to make one of these as i have the 10" wahuda and wen planer. If I start now...considering it can take me an hour to make a square cut...yep, should be done by Summer 24'.

This is the solution I need. Great build. Right now I’m sitting on the floor planning because my back said “that’s enough!” lifting it to the workbench. Also I don’t know but I’ve been told lifting your jointer by the table beds is not good for it.

just because you said make a comment if you would have done anything differently.. its a great project and you smashed it.. i would personally have used clamps and blocks at each corner to have levelled the table for slot cutting, maybe used a multitool for the slots and a spelch block for when you drilled thru the carcase..
@GregsWorkshopOregon
@GregsWorkshopOregon Жыл бұрын
Haha, thanks. I agree, the slot cutting was a little awkward. I've never heard of a spelch block, what is that?

Well done Greg, a space saver for sure. I hear you on the plywood quality. I am buying US made hardwood ply from a specialty dealer and it is atrocious also. I’d pay more for better quality, but it just doesn’t seem to be out there on a retail level.

I bought some Radiata Pine plywood for my current project and it's nice stuff. Surface is a little rough but it looks good, has multiple thin plies and seems strong and dense (compared to other softwood plywood).

Very well done flip cart and quality of the overall video/audio! I have the older Wahauda tools & absolutely love them. Especially the finish I get from the planer. Saves a decent amount of sanding time (everyone's favorite activity)

Nice design. I just purchased the cutech 12" jointer and I have a DW735 planer that I want to do a flip cart for and those tools will fit nicely on this cart. What are the overall dimensions of your cart?

Nice job and great video. I have the same jointer and the Dewalt 735 planer. I'm thinking about building a similar flip cart but want to rotate both the jointer and planer from the way you have them so the cart isn't as wide. Any reason you can see that will be an issue? As long as it's tall enough above the base to give the jointer enough room to flip, I can't see an issue.

Hey Greg, Great job, you’re so precise in your work your family must be so proud of you!!! How did you hold up with the ice storm and all? We lost power for three day’s. Our neighbor had a 60’ plus Fir uprooted and took out the lines right by the road! Happy New Year bro! 🌲☮✌🏻

Thanks Alan. It wasn't too bad down here in the lower elevations, we kept power and only lost some branches. The ice was pretty slick but the car has good tires so we were able to make it to all the Christmas events.

It looks like you drilled for 3/4" iron pipe, which is what I'd want for myself if I were doing it rather than 1/2" pipe.
@GregsWorkshopOregon
@GregsWorkshopOregon Жыл бұрын
It's 1/2" pipe which has an outside diameter closer to 3/4", pipe is measured on the inside diameter; tubing is measured on the outside diameter.

Question- if a 10” jointer is enough to face a board, why do we need 13” to plane the other side?

To make them parallel. Other wise they may be dead flat, but not to each other.

Great build. Good idea about mounting the tools before cutting the slots. Just a quick question- what size and thread are the eye-bolts? I found 3 in my box of parts, 5/16”, but thinking I should go grab a few 1/4-20 x 3”. Thansk
@GregsWorkshopOregon
@GregsWorkshopOregon 10 ай бұрын
Good question. My memory is that they are 5/16" but they could be 1/4". I decided the size mostly based on finding an eye bolt and steel bushing that fit together tightly.

What stops the sides from spreading out wards?
@GregsWorkshopOregon
@GregsWorkshopOregon Жыл бұрын
The thickness of the plywood and the triangular gussets. There's really no spreading load on the sides, only downward force.

@@GregsWorkshopOregon awesome! Thanks for the reply. I am working on building something similar, primary difference is that I will just have the 1 center rotating pipe, but then a parallel 1/2in pipe on the left and the right that I can pull in/out to hold into place.
