Diyang Mei performs JS Bach's Prelude & Fugue from Suite No 5 in C minor BWV1011

Chinese violist Diyang Mei chose to use some of his 2018 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship to make two videos of some of his favourite repertoire. Here he performs a transcription for solo viola of the first movement of Bach's Fifth Solo Cello Suite in C minor BWV 1011. The film was made by Simon Weir from Classical Media.

I agree it’s beautiful. I can’t help have a biased view towards the richness and depth of sound on cello. Gives a monumental funeral like quality to this prelude and fugue. I won’t deny how exceptional this performance is, still capturing the depth of sound and nuance of the fugue
