A little idea for avoiding the mess: When the drain plug is about to get completely off, be ready to hold it against the hole. Keep it plugging the hole and tilt the plug upwards to control the speed and direction of the fluid flow. Haven’t tried myself yet.

When I did this service on my '98 LS400 at 160K, I was surprised to find the oil in very good condition with no metal fragments at all on the magnet. Mine requires GL-5 90 wt. I contacted Lexus of North Amer. and engineering replied stating that there was no substitute permitted. I checked with Mobil and one other manufacturer and both stated that, when single viscosity was required for hypoid gears, their multiviscosity products were not recommended. Luckily Millers Oil makes it and it was available on line. Containers are designed to require no additional pump.
@DIYDanCars Жыл бұрын
90wt may be factory fill for your 98 LS400, but its not for a 4th generation GS350. My GS350 is factory filled with a multi viscosity oil.
@wholeNwon Жыл бұрын
@@DIYDanCars Yes. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2000 LS400 were the last of the single viscosity recommendations. I don't plan to replace it again. If I ever buy another vehicle, it will very likely be electric.

DIY Dan thank you for the reply. What mild parts cleaner do you use? And this completely cleans the container and tube? Nothing will contaminate the new fluid?

Any parts cleaner will work. I use "Purple Power Degreaser/Cleaner" from Wal-Mart and dilute it in water to flush the Motive fluid pump out. I do clean out my Motive power bleeder the same way too. They key is flushing everything out with water few times and then letting it air dry and you will be fine.
