*SIDE NOTE! I also want to add that the reason I added the small 1x6 lumber on the insides was because I wanted Jess to have the option to keep each unit separate, should she choose to move them in the future! Works great as one unit or two!
@b.walker59555 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you...I was hopeful you thought of that! Because these units are forever keepers! Would hate to see her attempt a stain match/wood grain match. And you know the way things are shrinking you may not be able to buy a 1 x 6 in the future. 7/8ths by 5 7/8ths may be all she can find. ba ha ha! : ) Most thoughtful for you to have done the extra work.

It was a steal. Like $325. This was great. I probably would have taken the scoring down again 3 cuts vertically and one across to make the little drawers like you see in a library card index. This was excellent and looks great in your dining room. Bravo. You popped up on my recommended list so I am gonna check out a few more vids. @WrenMcNally5 жыл бұрын
It turned out lovely. I ADORE apothecary cabinets and this gives me hope that someday I may have my own. I think if I was to do it I would choose something that I could make them look more square as opposed to rectangular just for my own preference. I would also make the cut outs in between even darker with some black paint. I would use a furniture wax over top of the stain to add more age and I would make little paper pieces to go in the slots. Maybe just with some nice numbers on them on tea stained paper with some nice old style script. Also your lavender hair with the black lips rocks.
@MM-Iconoclast5 жыл бұрын
Some other ideas: Instead of black, just a slightly darker stain in the grooves. Also you can make more grooves (like divide the ones in the vid into four small squares) - would be a lot more hardware and work, but would look very legit. Lastly, you could find an oak stain (like a light honey color) in a matte finish that would more closely mimic the color of an actual apothecary cabinet (and in that case, be verrry careful not to go too dark in the grooves - just a shade darker than the honey color). Here's the color, more or less: tinyurl.com/rvw992w Oh - and you can put paper labels in the hardware, and also consider the one where the 'drawer' pull is attached to the label insert - looks very legit. Here are two examples I found on Amazon (cheap too!): tinyurl.com/vbn3voj and tinyurl.com/wvesg5g
@WrenMcNally5 жыл бұрын
@@MM-Iconoclast You are completely right! Black would be too dark. I would even go as far as to pre scuff the furniture, add some dents ect to make it have even more character. I really like the drawer pulls you listed. It would make sense back then if you were spending all this time cutting and attaching all these tiny drawers that you would not want to waste time attaching a pull and a plate separately. I started looking an antique cabinets and it got me thinking....all those little drawers....it would be like a treasure hunt for someone who had never opened it before. The wide drawers made to appear smaller are much more practical.
@MM-Iconoclast5 жыл бұрын
@@WrenMcNally Actually, the reason I suggested the attached pulls/label-plates is not time-saving, but rather because to me they look more legit - but to each their own taste, of course. Also, making smaller faux 'drawers' makes it look more legit as well, as does using oak-colored stain, particularly with a golden tint. While Dani's version looks super-nice, I think it could be done in a way that looks closer to the originals.

A little tip on speeding up the drilling of the holes for the handles and card holders...create a template from some thin plywood, the size of a drawer front. Then measure and drill the holes in there. Overlay the template on each drawer front making sure to line up the top and one of the sides with the top and side of the drawer front. Then drill through the plywood holes into the draw front. They will all be lined up vertically and horizontally. I did this to install cool sleek hardware on a builder-basic bathroom vanity cabinet and it worked out great. Good luck.

@@beautyinsimplicity3461 Yeah, I get it. But don't try to do something that complicated next time. Just try a youtube search for 'super-easy craft projects' and see what you discover! Do something just because it's simple, easy, fast and fun - it will make you feel good!

...Not gunna lie... I can’t understand why people use that expression. Do those people lie so often that they must announce when they are telling the truth?!?

Getting ready to redo a recessed area in my great room. Want it simpler and definitely easier to keep clean. Got me thinking I need to take a trip to IKEA for affordable ideas. Your project looks amazing!!

The music killed me, I feel like you’re trying to talk over the music. Seemed like a good video though.

I'm never gonna understand the point of apothecary drawers where not every "visible" drawer is functionsl/real.

Amelia Ashes I think because it adds visual interest to look like a gazillion drawers while maximizing the amount of storage. Otherwise you’d only be able to store like one tea towel in each tiny drawer lol

Your craftmanship is awesome. TBS....You worked with what you had: Cheap Ikea knotty pine. A darker stain, some protective varnish and shiny brassy would have made these epic
