I love this dupe. My only critique is that I wish the top was a little longer to sit over the side/leg pieces.

True. I once looked at a lovely longboard which was really expensive and I was stunned to see that it was mdf with veneer. Although Transcend Furniture, who restores a lot of midcentury furniture, once explained that mdf+veneer isn't always a bad choice and why it's even used in high-end furniture.

A great job with the dupe and the IKEA hack, though I do wonder if the scalloped edges on so many pieces nowadays is going to feel super dated in another 5 years or so. It seems like chevrons, or barn doors, or anything that can be traced to a time period. But maybe it'll become the new classic border shape! Who knows? A very well-executed version of this trend, either way!!

DIYDanie Dares to Dupe It Herself! It is perfectly awesome what you did here, the complications, the calculations, all in the service of the aesthetic of this dresser. I think the "stain" is the best possible, love the satin finish, love the scallops, all so good. Um, you WANT critique? I suppose you could move the front edge of the top back a smidge to let the scallops show off a bit more & then extend the side edge just enough to cover the tops of the curved corners you made (genius, BTW!). But why mess with perfect? It's a beauty for sure!

Well done Danie, I think it turned out great! My only only critique or thought is that you didn’t extend the top over the new legs (the legs look great by the way). And by don’t extending the top of the legs you also couldn’t round the top at the edges like the original dresser and if you had done that, I think you wouldn’t have been able to see any difference on the two pieces. So well done mostly, just my own opinion that if you had done that it would’ve been 10 out of 10 and now it’s like 9 out of 10❤️

Danie, Do you dislike wood conditioner because it's, as a retail, usual item, a "petroleum product"? You could, if you stocked it for soft wood makes, alternatively use lemon oil, could add a few drops of lavender oil. I do not know! If you would need to add a PKG or 2 of mildicide -- In Canada?? I’m curious on your opinions. DIYs are your job. You get a product & a video, two for one. For the average folk who have full time jobs, this would probably take double or triple the time. Are these bigger projects worth it for the average person who’s trying to save a buck? Or is time more valuable than money in these instances? You are doing a lot more than just painting & changing the legs & hardware. A lot of planning goes into changing measurements & adding cut out details.

Wish she did a bigger top. She added the wood to inside of top drawer. The rounded legs bother me big time that it cheapens the entire DUPE. I'd prefer painting it a full color, not stain. Also, the bases of IKEA drawers are cheap and eventually bend, would have preferred solid wood base to the drawers

So beautiful. Love the paint wash solution. Two critiques..1-would have been nice to have a heftier top covering the half round side pieces and legs. SO glad you pieced in the4th piece of quarter round on the legs! Realize another piece of wood added to the top would add substantially to your cost. 2-this is a critique of the original….cant help feeling the scallops are upside down. To correct that design, I would maybe have added a piece of scalloped wood trim on the top drawers with the scallops facing down. But as a dupe, your solution is fantastic.
