They were some sort of seed pod or gourd. And the design was hand done art. Prolly shouldn't've altered them. Mistakes happen. The leafs with paint were a success as were the pears. Danie IS so patient! I'd've spray painted them and not got such interesting FX.

You're so right about prices at thrift stores. They get most items for free they price them bearly under full price from retail. Many times I've come across Dollar Tree items selling for more than what they were brand new.😢

I definitely agree about the prices of thrift stores lately. Two of ours have been filling dumpsters with free stuff being ruined due to being left outside in the elements at their drop-off door because they have no room to bring it in because there prices have gotten so high they arent selling as quickly. Most stuff sticks around until it goes on sale. The amount of beautiful furniture I've seen go in that dumpster from rain damage 😢 and if I come across something second hand from Dollar Tree for more than it originally cost one more time, then Im gonna scream!

I can't even tell you how refreshing this decor is. I'm so sick of all the KZbinrs that go to Hobby Lobby and Target and buy all the plastics and jam them into fake antique pots everywhere. So over it and it costs a fortune. I think the pear tree and the painted leaves are pure genius, the table scape is incredibly beautiful!!!

You inspired me with your sofa, both home and at the youth center. So I’ve need searching, new - no way, in Sweden you have to pay about €2000-€4000 for a decent new one at least. I think the wooden balls are actually dry gourds. :) It's typical for some native cultures to carve and paint then and use for decor :)

Looks fabulous! I especially liked the pear branches (Ma’am, how do you expect a stick expert to assess quality without chewing?!?), and the frame-in-frame chalkboard. The garland was cool, but I would have just left the balls as they were and drilled holes and strung them, because I’m lazy like that.😂 speaking of, no, I would not diy something like this because, see above. I couldn’t agree more about Value Village and their pricing!!! They get donations aka FREE MERCHANDISE and they turn and sell it for so much. It’s a store meant for people to save $$ and even for those who are less fortunate. It is just ridiculous! I actually stopped donating my things to them.

I no longer shop at the major thrift stores, S.A, G.W Savers, Angel View. All are overpriced and charging retai for used stuff. Thrift stores used to help the community, as well as organizations. It’s no longer charity driven.

That pepper is a persimmon. There are two types of persimmons, the one you have is quite astringant until the fruit is like mush. The other variety which looks a bit more like a bagel in shape and are yummy and sweeter and and crisper. I wouldn't say either are a kid type of fruit. But, I love persimmons (the bagel shaped ones) so much I want a tree in my yard. :p

The only thing I might have done differently (I realize u were following the inspiration photo) was...I wouldn't have sanded away those pretty designs on the garland balls - I thought they were a great fall color & added a pretty design as is...but that is what makes the world go 'round - eh? My favorite of all were the pear stems tho - I noticed them immediately when u put the inspo photos up & I liked the ones you made better. That pumpkin was an awesome find as well! PS - I don't know if you hair has grown in a bit or you curled it differently - but the effortless curl look was on point today! 🍁🍂

I picked up a tan/purply brow vase, added tan and red brown and greenish dried stuff. I like it a lot. Been YEARS since I made a seasonal thingie, I gave all that stuff to my son for grandkids... like I decorated for him. I enjoy their seasonal displays.

Looking forward to your Halloween episode. We run a small home haunt and do an event for our town and I’m decidedly looking for more DIY projects for that. We add to it every year, and we have a lot of big expensive animatronics from all over and the 12 foot Home Depot skellies/inferno, but now I need smaller filler pieces to fill in areas on a budget. Everything is getting more expensive, so time to reel it in and think “DIY”. I picked up the most heinous foam pumpkin (the kind that you can carve) that some poor soul decorated like a toddler on crack would have, so it’s sitting here waiting on a facelift. It’s going to be one of those funny puking pumpkins when I’m done, but a reusable one with foam barf and clay “seeds” that I’ll make with air dry clay. All painted appropriately obviously. We’ve already done a giant pvc pipe/foam spider with fur over it that turned out pretty good and it’s always been a crowd favorite. Husband even rigged up light up red eyes on it.

As demand for “vintage” has increased, prices go up; even in thrift stores. An unfortunate consequence seems to be that the populations who rely on thrifted furniture to furnish their homes, are being priced out. It’s the way of our economic systems 🫤

So true! With all of us thrifting the stores are raising prices. I am going now dumpster diving or making the rounds when it’s times for what we call in Texas bulk trash. Every month the city allows you to throw away bulky items could be furniture could be Decour could even be clothes, leaves other lawn debris, and find interesting things to pick up.

OK that came out absolutely gorgeous. That makes me actually want to call somebody and have them decorate my house like that. 😂 So anyways, I had to say this because there was a few things 26:43 in your video one with the dog, my dog Geo short for Giovanni would absolutely be doing the same exact thing too funny. Number two was, oh, the plastic grape. That was absolutely so funny because when my parents had a Home, a duplex, and my best friend lived on the other side, my mother always had a bowl of those grapes and the other fruits also Annette. And the grapes yes, if you take it and put it hold the hole facing out on your bottom lip but in your mouth and with your top two teeth, I don’t know kind of bite it a little bit and it would hit your lip and make like a farting sound. Sorry I had to say that. And number three was oh my gosh I forgot where number three was hold on a minute. I’ll be right back. OK I’m back. Where was I OK number three being I am always lately walking around my house. Talking to myself from the time I wake up till bedtime. I even say to Geo can you get out of the room you’re in and come sit by me, so there’s a big does luck, and I can just say I was talking to you. One more thing I'd add about thrifting decor - especially with thrift shop prices increasing - if you are trying to dupe or recreate existing items, make sure you consider ALL material costs & that you aren't spending as much (or more) on your dupe as the original item. It's a lot easier to do these type of projects when you already have a decent amount of craft supplies :)

Danie sweetie... those are Pine-cones... not Acorns. Acorns make Oak trees and Pine-cones make Pine trees. The art in the large frame is a signed print... you might want to get is appraised and see if it's worth selling on to artsy people. That's not a pepper, it's a persimmon. The end result are wonderful! Fall is my favourite season.
