Roughneck Professional Mortar Gun

Repointing is a time consuming job and if you are not used to it,it can make a lot of mess. The Roughneck repointing gun makes this job far less messy and a great deal easier. Anyone having problems are 100% using the wrong mix...Soft sand/Builders only..anything else and it will just push the water out causing a blockage. Great video. ive subscribed!

Mortar guns are very useful addition to the tool kit, this one is affordable and as good as you get for the money. As for using the tool and method (gun pointing) your presentation could focus on the type of mortar mix best for the tool, how to fill to tool effectively and finally some tips regards pointing. Your vids are all good fun but please keep your man off his knees it’s the worst position for working unless you’re asking for a raise of pay.

Watch the video on admix Jam, the admix is vital to a good mix and to stop clogging. The mortar needs to be smooth and creamy or it wil jst clog, as you have onbiously found out!! Good luck with it

This is a fantastic tutorial thank you. Loads of detail, a great demo and clearly masses of knowledge. I've just ordered my gun. Can I ask, to what depth should I cut out the old mortar, also where do I buy the cement additive. Thank you so much. Stuart

I like the idea of the gun... using the roughneck one on a house but find the nut holding the base of the plunger comes loose and falls off... the gun is only a week old, well cared for, not abused, good results but why does the nut come loose, fall off and has me searching for it in the mortar mix still in the gun.... or worse in the bucket of mortar once I empty the contents of the gun out. Love to know why this problem occurs or is it a fault with the gun. Thinking of gluing the nut in place so it cannot work loose. any help appreciated as still a fair bit of pointing to do.

Thanks for the demo, nice gun, like the coarse screw cap system. Not so sure about the otherwize handy scoop - needs to be narrower to fit into the tube?? Or possibly a funnel? When you do the re-make PLEASE - H&S (Gloves, glasses) MANT thanx

IS this tool useful for a premixed mortar product like Quickcrete fast-set type-M mix? This material has a fairly short open time and don't know if it would clog the gun...

+Steve Hoge Wouldnt like to try Steve as the mix in the gun needs to be just the right consistency to squeeze out. Havng never tried a gun with pre-mix mortars I would hate you to spend the money only to find it didn't work. You could of try livening up the premix with some Febmix so you get the consistency shown in the video but on balance I don't want to waste your money. We tend not to use premixed much as it's so expensive.

I have a small job to do so the expense of a premix isn't a big deal but I'm pretty inexperienced at masonry work and would like to take advantage of any tools out there that could help make up for total lack of skills! Guess I'll get myself a mortar bag and try with that...

I am a professional pointer and do it by hand and am considering buying a gun, my only concern is with the nozzle, a lot of the jobs I work on have varying joint sizes with the thin ones being the awkward ones to point and I was wondering how thin the nozzle actually is as I don't want to smear the brickwork obviously

+paul kelly The supplied mortar nozzles are 10mm Paul so suitable for joints of 10mm and above, however the gun also comes with a white nozzle so that it can be used as a grout gun for tiles also. This thinner nozze (3mm) can be used for a nice wet pointing mix also and preferably the nozzle cut to about 5 ot 6mm to get more mortar out. Hope this helps. We have been pinting by hand for donkeys years but having used a couple of mortar guns over the last 2 years we now don't use anything else.

Its got nothing to do with the gun Patricia I promise, not unless the barrel of the gun has a load of neat cement in it. The only reason a mortar gud does not work properly is if the mix has not been done properly. See our video on the correct mortar mix for a mortar gun (whatever brand of gun) and you will be fine.

Can't believe how rubbish this gun is and the demo is . I don't use guns much , but when I do it is a cox gun by far the best on the market I do my Repointung mostly by hand better job for two reasons you don't have to sieve sand and you don't have to make mortar two wet like you do when using a gun two wet weakens the mortar , takes time to learn by hand but better job

Mark West Yeah thanks for the comment Mark, amazing how rude somepeople can be. If you cant handle a mortar gun thats fine, most amateurs can't, but no need to take it out on the presenter. I can handle a gun, and it's 50 times quicker than by hand but I've been doing it for along time. Keep practicing buddy and you might be able to manage the big boys toys one day.
