In the electrical trade we just use a hacksaw or band saw. Use a pair of channel locks with the handle grips cut off to ream it
@jamestewell77212 жыл бұрын
If you’re using it for electrical, it takes a ton of time to remove that deep burr from the inside if using a tubing cutter. Inspectors hate conduit being cut with tubing cutters. That lip is hard to remove and it just skins wire when it’s pulled

That’s why you just score it and snap it.

What kind of consequences have you seen inspectors enforce?

Jigsaw with a metal cutting blade also works. Use a finer toothed blade to minimize burrs. Since most reciprocating saws are two handed tools, it's nice to have a hand free to stabilize the conduit and the results are nearly identical.

I don't what brought on the other comments on this video, seems out of place, haha... Anyway, thanks for showing this! We are getting tubing for our wall tent and the pipe cutter seems the best option.

Tubing cutter available for 1¼ and 1½" EMT? I need a cut that is quite square, not for electrical. 1¼x36" EMT weighs 3 pounds.

Seems like the tube cutter is the best option for cleaner cuts
@DIYeasycrafts4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely as long as you have a vise or can hold the pipe from turning its the easiest and cleanest cut!!
@austing90603 жыл бұрын
The issue with the tube cutter is when you use that, you create little "indents" inside the emt which can be an issue because when you snake the romex through you can easily cut the wire off of it
@VanLuciMoret3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Is the cutter the same used to cut copper tube? Or is it specially made to cut EMT electrical conduit?

Get one made for EMT. The copper ones dull out far too fast

You won't find a professional electrician using a regular tubing cutter. There is one specifically made for EMT. Further, it would be MUCH easier to use a portable band saw to cut a conduit and a reamer to finish it. If you're going to use tools, use the proper tools. THAT'S what makes it easier.

Just use a hacksaw is cheaper and faster
@DIYeasycrafts3 жыл бұрын
Definitely not. Hacksaw leaves an uneven cut the pipe cutters are quick and you end up with a square cut
