Doug, I can’t believe how you do all this work by yourself. I think you made the right decision by addressing the foundation issue. As I was watching you I couldn’t help but think about the house my grandfather built, it’s still standing today and every time I walk in I think of how much work and love he put into it. In the years to come your children will remember watching you make the house a home. I wouldn’t take a million dollars for the old country house my grandfather built. This is going to be beautiful when you’re finished.

I know you're dreading it, but I am really looking forward to seeing the foundation and floor of this section being brought back into structural integrity. You are going to feel such a huge sense of relief when it's done, and you really do have a 100% solid foundation under your entire house.

Bless your hearts, you kids are just amazing how you face adversity in this build! Class act all the way. I am grateful for this slower than normal hurricane season so that you two have had a bit of time to prepare for the up and coming rains. You are doing such a fantastic job!

Ashley, I'm impressed to know you know exactly what Doug is doing. When he was shubbling some soil to lower the house, you knew exactly what to say. Good job. You are an excellent assistant. You and Doug make a beautiful, excellent team. I'm so proud of this family, so proud!!!

Bella could do amazing artwork with that propane tank. Dragons, butterflies, critters you have observed on your property, a sunrise on one side/sunset on the other, ocean waves, etc - numerous options. Yard art is fun. Doug could build a pointed top, stand the tank vertical and make it resemble a fat, short rocket ship. It could be fun by your pond or maybe sell it. The roof issues are annoying but of course you 2 know how to deal with it. Your skills are amazing and unlimited. I admit I did a double-take when I saw another video so soon. Definitely a good day!

Doug, a lot of those floor joist appear to be rotten or termites have gotten in them not too great to be jacking on. Just be very careful. Don't be like my younger brother who wanted me to help him get his trailer level. He would over jack causing some of the steel frame to lift off of it's supports. I begged him to keep it wedged up with shims but he ignored me so I told him that I was not going to die with a mobile home on top of me. I went inside my home and not long after after I heard a loud noise that made my heart sink. Soon thereafter I went to see my greatest fear had become reality. Thankfully my brother was in a place next to a water tank and that tank saved his life. The entire mobile home crashed to the ground and blocks had messed up much of the floor inside. However with our dads help we were able to get it back on the blocks and level. All my brother had to do was to keep the shims tight underneath and that would've prevented the whole mess. Oh well live and learn if it don't kill you in the process.

When you put the roof on you can fix the sag by scabbing a 2x across the ridge making it straight. Aloha Ashley!
@lechatbotte.2 жыл бұрын
One thing always leads to another when working on a home. Perseverance is a must. I agree don’t touch the roof till you fix the foundation or that un level situation will transfer to the roof, then any settling will undo all your hard roof work.

There’s definitely a big difference in the roof line!! It looks great!!
@warrenlucier57962 жыл бұрын
To get the ridge level you have to jack it up and install collar ties 1/3 down from the ridge. If the deflection is not real bad just installing collar ties will slow it down from spreading the walls. Rafter ties installed at the top plate after jacking will straighten the walls that are slowly kicking out. All older homes have this problem and I'm sure you've seen a lot of this condition up north with homes over a hundred years old (swayback).
@marciawoods32702 жыл бұрын
Oh my. I will be glad when you can stay out from under the house. Scares me. I know your careful, please be extra careful under there. I like it when your feet are on the ground. Now it’s the roof oh my. Besides that I love my metal roof. Glad you chose that. I was told they last 40 plus years.

Glad that is over with for now. Does look straighter. I love that house though. Peace!
@richardjones52552 жыл бұрын
That was a high risk, necessary correction task, that had many wondering what would happen. Happily, you survived. Those beams are not for this land for much longer, but the correction is looking essential. At least you are another vital step closer to getting things done, but it does show how much work is needed to get you sorted out with any old building, it is worse when active neglect, and possibly abuse, has been allowed to take place, By the way banana roofs are surprisingly common, on otherwise stable houses, some even 'feature' switchbacks, that go up and down more than once.
