I was very lucky. My mobil is a 1984 and they put good quality insulation in the walls and my windows don't rattle in the wind or leak. I live in a mobil home park in the California desert so you hear about this stuff everyday. I have learned alot form the years of watching you guys redo these mobils.

Ashley and Doug are certainly powering forward on their investment property. A 40 year old dwelling will soon be able to reset to a rebuilt date of 2024. With their amazing skills, determination and focus on such high standards they always create better than new homes. It is a joy to watch them work.

In 2001 I moved it to our lake property on 1/2 acre and we did some updates and to this day we as a big family are enjoying it. I love watching your build on this. But anything you both do turns out beautifully. Great video. God bless

That’s a good lifespan for a window, most don’t last that long. Even in a regular house they wear out. Newer technology often has better parts too. I’m just enjoying the ride watching as the rain is pouring down here.
@pinballrick603111 ай бұрын
As I renovated and remodeled my 1984 mobile home I procrastinated doing the windows. It was just a pain trying to find affordable windows, figuring out the correct sizes and it was simply a job I didn’t look forward to doing. (There was no DIYfferet back then to show me how easy the job was. (Minus rot.)) The previous owner had actually replaced the glass in one window with plexiglass. I tolerated it until one cold winter night we had a huge windy storm with horizontal rain knocking out power. That plastic window kept loudly bulging in and out with each gust of wind. Concerned, I examined it. I gave it a small poke with my finger hoping it would survive the storm. About thirty seconds later the whole thing blew into the house. With rain pouring into the house I frantically ran out to the shop grabbing a tarp, hammer and nails and covered the window. The next day I was able to temporarily reinstall that plexiglass, but I soon ordered new windows and replaced every window in the house. Note to self: Don’t wait until tomorrow to do what needed to be done yesterday.

It’s unfortunate this home looks like it never had any real maintenance done on it. Most people don’t understand what all goes into home ownership. My dad had to recently pay $22k to replace a wall of windows in their 2006 custom home they built new. He never resealed the windows when I told him and would rather be fishing, hunting, or at the bar. If it was a bad rainstorm gallons of water would pour in that we would have to deal with. It was a great lesson for him. His home leaked and my camper didn’t! All my camper windows are the original ones from 1988. Some of the corners where the glass and rubber glazing were leaking when I first got it. All I had to do was use a screwdriver and push the rubber back in on all the windows! And then I did take all of them out and re-butyl tape and caulk them as well.

Find the problem, get rid of the bad stuff, clean the area, take a break and a deep breath, then just go step by step. In Florida the hurricane winds pushing against the panes will pop the seals on the window as well. That was the reason we had to replace and rebuild our breakfast nook. Hurricane Charlie plus the heat, humidity and rains just feeds the rot once the rain finds a way in. -- Not to mention the bugs it attracts.

It's amazing the difference in build quality between these 1984 mobile homes and modern double wide mobile homes. Ours has 2x6 exterior walls and 2x8 floor joist on 16 center with 3/4 inch subfloor. It also has traditional windows and doors like a regular stick built home. Plywood exterior sheathing with vinyl siding. However one can't argue that this 1984 mobile home wasn't built sturdy as it's obviously lasted 40 years and being in Florida has weathered many hurricanes without major damage. I have zero doubt that the place will look fantastic when you're done with the renovation. 😊
@diyfferent11 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was looking into that recently and was really surprised by the build quality of some of the new mobile homes, just as you described. It does make me wonder if weight isn't as much of an issue today as it was back then, or was it just a cost thing. No idea.
