I found success with growing potatoes doing this: Put potatoes in a dark room until the eyes grow out. (Eyes/Buds/Sprouts) put an onion in the potato bin to speed this process along. Put the entire potato in the dirt and cover. It’s pretty cool. Good luck

Детский сад на прогулке! 😂Этот метод хорошо подходит тому, у кого своей земли в городе нет и таким способом можно выращивать картофель на балконе или на плоской крыше! Ну или на грунте в какой нибудь Якутии, в условиях вечной мерзлоты! Ну а если есть земля - нет ничего проще взрыхлить её и посадить в неё картофель рядками в борозды и два раза его окучить по мере роста, потому что клубни у него завязываются именно в рыхлой земле. Ну а так - моя бабка, прожившая 100 лет на чернозёмной земле в Курской области России, в гробу переворачивается, глядя на эту всю капучую возню😅 - она рано осталась одна после войны с 5 детьми и каждый год выращивала у дома по несколько гектаров картошки, да ещё и в колхозе подрабатывала - гектаров по 10-15 сахарной свёклы вручную обрабатывала с мотыгой! Картошку продавала большими автоприцепами, выезжая на выходные торговать в рабочие посёлки и города курского железорудного бассейна - туда - 10 тонн картошки, оттуда - сумка денег! И каждому сыну, как только он собирался жениться после армии, она отдавала свой дом и хозяйство, а себе покупала другой и снова заводила хозяйство и всё там обустраивала! Бабка - огонь была, за которой здоровый мужик угнаться не мог! Меня родители часто посылали в конце лета помогать ей убирать картошку - она нанимала лошадь с сохой или тракторную копалку и нанятая техника выпахивала её на поверхность, а мы с бабкой потом дней 10 просто собирали картошку в вёдра, подсушивали её и свозили её тачкой на зиму в большой подвал! 😮 Ну а это - детские игры с совочком в песочнице!😢😂

I thought it was a great way to grow potatoes that are mostly uniform in size. I like how you removed a lot of folliage and they still grew so well. In the beginning you cut a stalk of something, but I am not sure what that plant was. I didn't quite understand the use of cement applied to the cut side of the potatoe, but it seemed to work. Would wood ashes also work in place of the grass and rice hulls? Thanks for sharing your technique!!

Burying the cut part of the potatoes in cement helps prevent rotting and promotes healthy growth.

As long as you find "eyes" on your potatoes you can cut them into multiple "plugs" with atleast one eye and plant straight into the ground our your container. Cement is not necessary. Cement is actually not organic so chemicals are a concern. All the amendments to the soil and your mulching is great. Building planters with recyclables and the covers is really good. Especially if the weather is questionable. The only big concern is pollinators having access because of be8ng in the greenhouse.

I read cement to prevent from rot. I personally would not do that. Just let the potato heal itself by exposing it to air and it will seal the cut part. I learned that from P Allen Smith. You can plant after 24 hour s without fear of rot or diseases.

Too bad he doesn't recycle the styrofoam bins... could just cut a square panel, re-tape it, etc, instead of destroying the container... I don't destroy the box planter every time I harvest.. just "un-pin" the one side and harvest / replenish the soil... Other than that, is a great idea. I'm unsure about concrete on bottom of potatoe... maybe dip in wax instead?
