I really want a laser. I initially wanted a CNC but am leaning more toward the laser because of the speed and versatility. Love the paper towel holder!!

Another great project. That cutter is incredible. Definitely be careful with those shop kittens. I would get a kick out of the neighborhood cats wondering in the workshop and up to my wife's upper-level crafting room. They loved her sewing machine, up down up down, lol

The shop cats know something’s up when I lock the kitty door. They can’t stand being locked out. That laser is a beast and I am having a ball with it. My biggest problem is that it takes up a lot of room in my shop. I guess I need to build a bigger shop. LOL

Always a fun moment when I see the notification for a new DIY Gene video. Wow, lasers these days, what an awesome tool. Never thought about a paper towel holder because they are ugly (I shove my paper towels in a drawer, lol) but THIS one looks awesome. Thank you for the video Gene. God bless you and hugs from Belgium - Daniella.

@@DIYGene lol, I BET you are having a ball using the laser and you will use it a lot in the future. I am stunned by the work you showed it was capable of and cut your designs. Also, you are so skilled in several areas that I think you must have several degrees in different areas? Art and design, mechanics... just to name a few. Projects, hmmm... Dark Saber? (And I'll think of something else.) God bless you and hugs from Belgium - Daniella.

Just heard a cool new idea. Spray the wood project with truck bed liner first, and then paint. It is supposed to hide any wood grain, and give the steel a cool texture. I haven't tried it yet.

Terrific review Gene and thanks for the tremor explanation. Can you dial down the laser intensity if you are etching acrylic sheets or multi-wall 1/4” (6mm) polycarbonate materials? Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace brother

I always enjoy your videos. Outstanding work as always! Did you notice the smoke causing any issues with the accuracy of the laser at all? Thanks!
@DIYGene Жыл бұрын
Hi Don, The smoke is mainly caused more from the air assist that blows it away from the point of the laser. I will need to build a enclosure for it or at least a air exhaust fan to help blow it out. Any suggestions?
@DonDouglass Жыл бұрын
@@DIYGene Honestly, I like down draft tables that suck the smoke or fumes away from my face. However a repurposed stove hood might work just as well.
@DIYGene Жыл бұрын
That is a incredible idea. I could build one with pegboard or drill a tighter pattern into MDF. Or for that matter cut it out on the laser! Then inclose that into a box with a vacuum cleaner on the end. Do you think that would work? I love this idea.
@DonDouglass Жыл бұрын
@@DIYGene Sounds like a solid plan. An enclosure would work best I think. However, balancing the vacuum to fresh air flow coming in so that you get the most out of the vacuum would be the trick. That part is over my head lol. Maybe start with a smaller fresh air intake so that the volume on your vacuum remains high?
@DIYGene Жыл бұрын
I think you are right about the enclosure. it would be best all around. I was holding off because of possible purchase of an extenuation to the laser.

Just curious; is the laser easy to store if you have limited space? I’m loving all your projects. Been watching you for along time and did my shop doors similar to yours but with a twist. Working on a different theme for the walls. Wanted to send you photos since you’re the one that inspired me.

Hi Tina, I would love to see pics of what you did! That makes me feel so good that maybe I have inspired someone. On the laser, I made a case around mine, but you also could just hang it sideways on the wall and just bring it down when you need it. Thanks so much for watching. Please send me pics.

Hi Gene! Hope things are well with you! Great video very interested in the laser. Are there any promotional codes? I'm interested in purchasing one. And like you said its a game changer! And yes the magnets work well when attaching steampunk items to metal - in this case the fridge. I used them extensively on my DYI Gene Steampunk fridge. Think I'll get me a coffee cup from your store. Again good job!

Hello Robert! Great to hear from you! I am having a ball with the laser and they do have some discounted prices going on now. How is your steampunk fridge holding up?
@robertsutton5169 Жыл бұрын
@@DIYGene Ill check out the discounted prices. Any recommendations where? The fridge is doing great. I was fearful that putting all that work into it, (with my luck) it would "konk" out but its going strong! One issue is every time you shut the freezer door my Costco jar lid turned into a steam gauge with toothpick for a needle goes up in pressure! Ha, ha! Good thing I used magnets to hold it on so I can just pop it off and move the toothpick/needle back down! The fridge is just too cool!

We bought just about every option for this unit but the extension and hood....Were not very happy so far, one of the X rods were not mounted in its socket and would not fit even with the screw out of the socket, had to be hammered in. The unit was scratched up, when I contacted support they said...oh sorry. We paid $1600 for this unit and it seems to have software issues and it will not autofocus and tech support is useless....I really regret buying this unit.
