Pro tip...if the walls aren't straight, scribe the boards to the wall and cut them out. It's a PITA for sure, but looks clean. You could also fill with joint compound or caulking, which is easier. And for the ceiling and vaulted pieces, miter both boards so you don't have to use table saw. Take that angle and cut it in half. Boom. Really nice job!

Hi Sam, the joint between the first piece and the second piece is effectively a mitre joint. you should have found the angle of the ceiling at this meeting point and then divided that angle by two. you should then have cut the meeting ends of these two boards to that angle. Then they would have been the same width as each other.
@jeremyspecce3 жыл бұрын
I came to say the same thing. If you don’t miter both pieces then the “length” of the joint faces will never match up.

I just finished the same type of project. I bypassed the tape for the visual and just did a scale drawing instead. I also snapped horizontal lines on the wall. I tried Brad nails at first, but I didn't like the way they held into the drywall, so I opted for sheetrock screws. I also opted for 5" wide MDF boards. Drilling the holes and countersinking for the sheet rock screws took a bit of time. I countersunk them enough to fill with putty later but then had to prime the filled holes (150). I opted to use a roller and brush and a one coat coverage paint. My wall is 25 ft long and 11 ft high to the peek. I had about 30 hrs invested, which includes time at HD cutting boards to approximate lengths

I've been trying to decide what to do with a 9' x 16' bedroom wall that I want to make an accent wall. After seeing this project, which is beautiful, I have decided that board and batten is definitely NOT the way to go for me.😅 I just don't have the skill set or energy for such a project. Thanks to videos like yours I am able to narrow down my possibilities.

This board and batten wall looks really cool!! Tip not asked for.. Never use caulk to fill in gaps between wood. This would have come out much more professional looking if you'd have used a wood filler or even drywall spackling. I know the extra step of sanding really bites the dust but the finish is so much nicer. As a professional perfectionist it would drive me crazy to look at it like this.

Looks amazing 👏 I wanna fo something similar in my bedroom! Here's a pro tip: When using a jigsaw you should always tape the outline of your cuts bc not only does it make it easier to see but more importantly it protects your finished surface from scratches.
@SGDrummer73 жыл бұрын
That angle issue you had around 9:06. I think you can avoid that if you cut half the angle on both ends rather than the whole angle on one end. So like 22.5 on both the top and the side instead of 0 on the top and 45 on the side. Then you can keep the piece full width instead of having to rip it down. But even still, the end product looks great!
@diyhuntress3 жыл бұрын
Maybe! That entire section of ceiling was about 1/4” lower than the rest of the room. So, it was a lot easier to just rip it. It blended well too. Wouldn’t be able to tell at all if I didn’t show it in the video (but, I like to keep it real here).

Man who cares what people say about your walls! The fact that you did it yourself speaks measures. You saved a lot of money and it looks great! Of course the pros are going to critique your work. If everyone did diy they would be out of a job. Diyers don't pay attention to folks when always have something to say. ( Well I would have done it like this or I would have done it like that. To the trained eye it looks whatever but to diyers it's looks great. Saved money on material and labor! I salute you for at least trying and making it look good for yourself. Thanks for sharing!!

at 9:02, I learned the lesson too by my own mistake. The problem isn't the wall, it's the miter cut. Both angled piece and the top piece need to be miter cut 50% of the angle. Otherwise, the top piece in your video is 90 degree, it will NOT match the length of the edge of left piece which is not 90 degree. Both pieces have to have the same angle in order to have the same length on the edge. Hope it helps future projects.
