I've had several Harman Pellet Stoves over the years and replaced the ignitior on all of them at one time. Harman used several different manufactures over the years so the Ignitor that lasted 10 years might not be the same brand Ignitor even though you purchased from an authorized Harman Dealer. I've had good luck with the Ignitors from Pellerhead/esesstoves. Regarding lighting the stove when the Igniter is dead what I do is this: I take 91% Isopropyl Alcohol put about an ounce in a cup. I add a handful of Pellets shaking the cup to coat the Pellets. Let the Pellets sit absorbing the Isopropyl for a bit and then pour them in the Burnpot. I take a lighter and light the coated Pellets and they fire right up.

Hey thanks! I see many ways, gels, hand sanitizer, etc to manually start the stove but most favor the torch, now i see why! Thanks again!

What do you do once you have manually ignited your furnace? More specifically, do you have to press anymore buttons?
@DIYJIM9 ай бұрын
Nope just make sure you do not have it on auto light if you have it.

I always have a spare ignitor on hand. They are not expensive and good insurance to have on hand. It is important to clean the area where the ignitor is located. Mine is behind a plate, locked with wingnuts, under the burn pot and I vacuum that area out carefully. My stove is plugged into a UPS power supply. In my area the power can go out, not always gracefully, during big snowstorms and I believe it can cause damage to the computer board and ignitor in the stove. After I have cleaned the burn pot, it always take a little bit longer for the pellets to light by the ignitor, I believe this is caused by the fact that there are no ashes in the pot that heats up quicker than all new pellets. If I have to light my stove manually, because I haven't swapped out the ignitor, then I use the same torch with mapp gas as you do. I do mix a little bit of whole pellets with ashes and throw it in the burn pot.

Five squirts of hand sanitizer and then the torch for me. Starts much faster than using the ignitor.

Plug it into a tiny generator from harbor freight or northern tool.
@Urban_hunter20219 ай бұрын
@@whitechevy33 it needs to be a inverter generator or you can really mess up the internal motherboard in the stove. You need clean AC current from the inverter generator or from a pure sine power inverter.
@whitechevy339 ай бұрын
@@Urban_hunter2021 yes in a perfect world but inverters are expensive and not everyone has one. I have a harbor freight predator regular non inverter generator, I have ran several fridges, and HVAC system during power outages they all have motherboards of some sort and I had no issues.

@whitechevy33 Well, it always works until it fries it. I'm just giving you some advice.

Hi Jim, good video. I have an Englander stove, 18 years old. The igniter failed the first season I had it and I've been doing exactly this to light it this since. Piece of cake. I use regular propane though, I'll have to try MAPP gas. I've also used a squirt of kerosene in the past and only needed to light it with the torch for an instant. That works well too.
