Honestly I've never built a chest before but after watching this video you did a great job helping viewers understand the simplicity of it. I've watched a couple other videos and boy do some make it more difficult than it needs to be. Excellent job it looks phenomenal and I'm a lot more confident now then before watching this 😊

I love this build! Thank you! It's easy and affordable. I would love to see more of this type of project, the kind that uses basic tools that most people already have. And the wood can be pulled from free pallets making this chest even more affordable.

I'm about to make this with cheap 1x4 furring strips from Home Depot. I think they'll work well since they're about .75" x 3.5". I'm going to torch them a bit to give them a little character and then use a light stain. The whole thing should cost about $45 with hardware. Here's hoping it turns out well!

I'll be honest, I started out cringing at you not using a jointer to get the board edges perfectly straight, and making them perfectly flat, etc..... but honestly the lack of doing so gives it a bit of character. Well done.

I used to build shipping crates that were much like that. To hold that top, instead of rope, I used jack chain in a small size. It's that twisted figure 8 stuff. You can work it with a pair of wire cutters and a pair of pliers. I left mine silver, but it woukd be easy to spray paint it black.

There is no carpentry here but rather nailing some wooden planks together. Similar to how they build budget coffins in remote places. What I like about the video however is that it demonstrates well that 1) a box is a box and 2) it is better to have a hand made "box" with nailed planks rather than to procrastinate imagining a perfect dove-tail-french-polish-super-duper-Stradivari-marvel-box and then giving up on it all together. "DONE" IS BETTER THAN PERFECT. Bravo and thank you.

I'm about to make one from pallet wood! It should be beautiful when done. I'm thinking about using a torch to lightly burn wood then clear coat it. I've done this b3fore and it looks great. Might just sand and clear coat it though idk. I have access to all the pallets any1 could want so I been cherry picking them for the best looking ones. I'm debating on whether to use screws with heads visible or using Brad nails so the heads aren't as visible.

Nice box. It's a wonder you didn't use the corner brackets on the outside, or even get hold of some that looked rustic, and make a removable tray for the inside. With the rope, maybe a type of lug could have been used, similar to a battery terminal. Always tape the ends of the rope too, as it will stop it from fraying. Well done.

Nice chest Montreal, i appreciate the simple joinery and the use of reclaimed wood. Next time when you build a design like this however, you should allow a 1/16 inch gap between each board. Combine this with putting fasteners only in the center of the width of the boards. This will allow room for the expansion and contraction of the wood. Good luck and enjoy your continued work :)
