Welcome to the Hiker Family, you have a very nice set-up! I can attest that the Highway can go off road a bit. I've had mine since 2020, been to 28 states and logged over 10k miles. Tow with a Kia Sportage which is one reason why I went with the tiny trailer and have an RTT for the kiddo. But, its seen more dirt roads and forest service roads than 99% of the Jeeps on the road today have. Enjoy your HIKER!!

I love this comment, that's exactly of what I was thinking of when I was choosing models. There's gonna be a lot of EORs that never leave the pavement, and some guy has his highway deluxe on a logging road in Maine right now... lol for some situations, the trailers wait is a lot more important than the suspension and clearance. Highway deluxe with soft tires might actually be the most off-road cable. Thanks for turning in, more to come!

Congratulations on the new trailer Brian, what a beauty! Looks like even though your batteries are up front, the disconnect is in the galley. A video on that setup would be helpful ( wire sizing etc.). I need to look into it more but I’m not exactly sure if I want to keep my battery ( or batteries down the road) in the galley. TU.

I'm really excited to get some videos out on the power set up. Ours is both complicated, yet easy to do. That switch in the galley allows you to either run off the front battery or the Goal zero. There's also a switch that diverts the solar from the battery to charging the power station. it gives a lot of options and should lead to some great Boondock and capability. Lots of videos to come… Thanks for watching!

@@DIYOutdoorLife I see that now. As I’m looking closely at a hiker..I see the almost unanimous affection its owners have for them …. I’ve only come across one critical review..A fellow shows some rust forming on exterior screws and parts of the rack system on a new unit. How have you found the overall quality/fit and finish of your and other’s hiker trailers? Also, would I be ok just sticking with the basic electrical system that comes with the hiker? I plan to rely on a Bluetti AC 180 and a Jackery 1000 in rotation plugged in to the stock electric system.

Thank you, we're really excited. Hiker pricing is really good, but obviously it can add up in a real hurry with some of these features. A stock highway deluxe is 6K, one of the best prices, if not the best in the industry. Hi, I recently just got my first Hiker, a Mid Range 5x10. It came with a 23 zero awning on one side and I would like to add a ROAM awning that I already had to the other side but I'm having a hard time finding the hardware needed to mount it to the square inch crossbars that come on the Hiker. Hiker and ROAM both say that don't sell the hardware needed. Any ideas on how to find what I need? Thanks
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife 25 күн бұрын
Could the ROAM mount like your 23 zero or does it have to mount to the crossbars? Your 23 zero probably has heavy duty 90° brackets like mine does. If that will work, I would get the brackets from 23 zero.

Great video. You strike a really good balance between giving too much and too little information. Many channels struggle with that. Question: I am planning to purchase a Hiker Trailer Mid Range XL now that Aero has filed for bankruptcy and our planned Burnside purchase cannot happen. What is the height of your trailer from ground to top of load bar? We intend to install our GFC rooftop tent (6" tall) on our trailer and fitting in our 82" tall garage is a priority. Thanks!
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife 2 ай бұрын
You're going to be very happy with the mid range XL, hearing what happened to aero is a bummer though! Unfortunately, I am on a road trip with my teardrop and won't be home to see the Hiker for a bit . I know it's very close to 75 inches. Give Hiker a call, they'll answer on the phone right away with the exact number.

Curious how hot the fridge box gets in summer particularly on really hot days when it's baking in the sun? Does the fridge box heat up a lot? How does that affect the fridge and power demands? I left my bougeRV and 640wh power station in my car in the sun once and it couldn't keep up. Really curious to find out how it works for you. Love the channel!

You have good timing, I've already filmed a video all about that. I don't know when we will release, it's a really important topic. The box does heat up, it does affect the refrigerator . I put a simple reflective cover and it completely offset the issue. I'll also look into some venting. Overall, it has not been a major issue, but one worth addressing . Thanks for watching!

Great video. I'm been planning my own in garage custom build for 6 months. But Hiker is really suckering me to spend more but get exactly what I want. I'm gonna need to work remotely. Anyway to get a fold out futon style sleep scenario, and during the day have a removable table i can work on and eat while watching a movie? I'm totally gonna have Starlink internet and a drop down TV from the ceiling. I want a domeric toilet in there at the foot of the bed in a hidden box I can build with some shelving. I's that possible with a 5x10 trailer or would I need a 6x12? I'm 6 feet tall so I need a queen. Suggestions?

I've had the opportunity to look at a lot of trailers and I believe Hiker is top-notch. I did about 6 months of research on 15 different trailers. Makes me feel good that you went with Hiker. I originally wanted what you have, but Hiker is so good they had me really look at weight. If you are a Hiker expert, you will notice my Hiker model sticker on the back is fo the other model. A company that actually recommends the cheaper next model down, that's unheard of. Since we are pulling with a 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness, we went with a 10 ft midrange. I did have them engineer out a non standard Hiker. No fridge box, just a utility box and front tire mount. Battery and truma are in the back. Since I got the bigger C44, they had to raise the shelf and couldn't give me a passthrough door. ITs a bummer but safer that the propex heater is undermounted. This means I can't drive through a creek, I could, but I shouldn't.

Although there's a lot of overlap, the two different campers are still quite different. I'll have to see how things work out after I do some mods but for now I'll probably just take them out 50-50 because I love them both!

In my opinion, it's the best bang for the buck in the industry. You can get a really solid trailer for under 10 grand, or you can deck one out and spend twice that amount. Apples to apples, I think you get more with Hiker.

I’m glad you got a Hiker . I ordered my Hiker after watching your videos last year. We have about 12 trips with ours in the 10 months we’ve owned it and the new hasn’t worn off . Pulling with our Jeep makes it even more fun. We can camp off grid for a few days with a simple AGM battery (Group 31 from a school bus lol ) I like the door combo and the 10’ trailer . We have the 9’ one and have to really watch our weight pulling with a Jeep. Your tongue weight is over 250 lbs with that fridge box . Im curious how well your Toyota pulls your trailer and I think I’ve heard you mention you have a Jeep . How well do they pull your trailer? Ours loaded is around 2200 lbs (guessing) but we have to carry a lot of gear for three of us . Hopefully good content for a video : Go to the scales and weigh it , no one that I know of has that in a video . In this video the ceiling looks white. Did the change that or is it the lighting ? I can see subtle changes from the 23 year model to the 24 like the rear logo and the carbon monoxide detector. Really cool that you got you one , I think y’all will really enjoy it. Hope to see you on the road sometime.

I will definitely have to get to the scales and experiment with the TW, I think that would make good content as well. The Toyota pulls it like an absolute dream, the tongue weight, and overall weight are a complete non-factor. The jeep pulls it well also, I think that the manual transmission helps a little bit, but I do notice a little more SAG than I'm used to with my other trailer. I have some more experimenting to do, but I think both vehicles can safely to the Hiker, the jeep is only for local trips anyway. Ceiling is birch, the lighting made it come out white . Thank you so much for watching the video, it's really exciting to hear that you got a Hiker after watching our series. Thank you for continuing to tune in!

@@DIYOutdoorLife I’m curious about the Toyota because I am interested in getting one for a longer trip vehicle. My Jeep is a CJ so it’s towing capacity is lower than a modern Jeep. I didn’t weigh my trailer as a whole but I did weigh at the tongue jack and got 255 lbs and the CJ is rated for 350 . I have trailer brakes and a controller on the CJ , it’s a must . How I load my trailer is very important, like your trailer I’ve got both awnings and tent rooms for both . To play with loading it different ways with it on the scales would be a must watch video. It makes a huge difference in the way the CJ handles. My other tow vehicle is a one ton Cummins diesel powered ram . Hiker laughed at me when I picked up my trailer with the 22ft long truck . We joked about if it could tow it . Of course I load everything including the kitchen sink when I tow the hiker with the Ram and don’t worry about how I pack , I forget that it’s back there . In fact the fuel mileage doesn’t change.

Nice! Love the fridge in the front, that has been working for us for some time. If we weren't planning on converting a 20' cargo trailer this would be on my radar. If you ever get down this way we have plenty of room for you to set up, just don't come in the summer!

@@DIYOutdoorLife I wish I was in a position to do it now because I'm pretty sure this is the one. I'm going to have to live in it full time. I'm pretty close to knowing what I'll need for it. @@daynaphipps4912 yes, Jeep grand Cherokee can tow it no problem. The dimensions of the shelves are options, they are able to move things around.
