One thing I always do is to keep a clean pair of socks in every pair of boots that I have. I usually go barefoot or in sandals and don't usually have socks nearby. That way I don't have to hunt around for something in an emergency and I always keep at least one pair of boots in my vehicle.

A handy item for your go bag is an umbrella, put a cheap tarpaulin over it and you have an instant pop up shelter , can be used as a wind break , to light a fire , shad form the sun or hail , a walking stick , a basic weapon , ( better than nothing).

I'm retired and really don't have room in my small trunk of my car for most of these items. We barely have room for groceries and a case of water. We live in the south, NC. I do keep a blanket on the back seat, but would have to put some things in a small duffel bag in the trunk. 😊

So in the northern climates a tarp makes really good sense to cover broken windows incase of an accident. I had to work on a guy with a possible neck injury when he rolled over his truck. If was -20, his truck was off and the windows blown out. Really helped me maintain his body temp while we were waiting for EMS.

Excellent post! Most people don't think of this while preparing. I am in New England and am a former EMT and retired Law Enforcement so this is a great reminder to everyone. No one is asking you to do surgery, etc. but to keep accident victims out of the wind and snow while waiting for a response is simply ideal! This will get people thinking... maybe I should learn a bit of first aid, and pack a tarp, etc.

One thing that would be great to keep in your car or truck is a folding wagon (or a sled in the winter). If you have small children with you, you will have a way for them to travel if you have to leave your vehicle. Also could be used to take additional gear or supplies

Evening JR. Your point on being ready is spit on. Look what happened with hurricane Otis that hit mexico, killing over 2 dozen. The people did mot jave advanced warning because it was expected to be a tropical storm that came in, but suddenly intensified into a cat 5 hurricane literally within hours and no one was prepared. Being able to just go, without taking time to grab everything you will need, will save your life. Thanks for all your information. 👍

Hello Rob. The best thing to do in that situation would be to have a solid EDC and EDC bag. I did a video on that earlier this year, and you can find it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHfIaHWcpsZqZtE Just be careful with certain things that I mention in that video. I don't know what the laws are where you live.

Good list. With winter coming, don't forget to get your car serviced and check the tyres have a decent amount of tread on them and are inflated to the correct pressure. A 12V air compressor is a handy thing to have in the boot.

I ask my friends, “how far to this place you are going?” They always answer with, time, not distance. How many miles? Home to work? Home to bug out location? MILES. How many miles can you walk, in a day? Now hours are days! Weeks! Months!!!

I'v got a very small car and a Dog crate in it but I always have a BOB under the seats equiped for ~72h. This should last for my way home or the case I must bug out. In case of a evacuation my first stop would be our Restaurant to stock up on supplies and then I would leave in direction of the Mountains to avoid people.

I have been feeling like our society has become a house of cards for 30 years, so the only thing that surprises me is that the house _hasn't_ come tumbling down yet no matter how many new cards we keep piling on top. Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst is how I have lived my life. Unfortunately, failing health from getting older is seriously limiting options for responding to SHTF. So now I am relegated to preparing to turn my home into a fortress when things fall apart.

Perso al opinion, I'm not fond of uco candles in the car. Great for inside the house, bugging in, huge safety risk in the car. A question, I guess, or observation. You do the same thing as I do, and many others. Recently listened to one who says he likes to keep identical items in each bag. One reason is that he gets separated from one bag, he grabs another, and it has identical items in it. No need to try to remember what type equipment is in which bag. Fair point. I keep different knives in each, for the purpose of the bag. I have different cook set in each, again based on the purpose/mission of the bag. That's me. Any ideas, similar cook set based on purpose. Get home bag purpose is get home. Move, move, keep moving, stay moving, and move more, get home as fast as safely and practically possible. I wouldn't stop for dinner and a movie. Then move on. Bug out, I would cook once in a while just for hot food, moral etc. Would you agree/disagree, any thoughts.

Great information. Do you have any information or knowledge on the Emp Shield for vehicles? Based on the information found on Emp Shields website, they sound pretty useful in the event of a EMP. Thanks
@diypreppertv Жыл бұрын
Hello Mark. I’m undecided on those. They sound great, but I’ve heard conflicting information as to how effective they are. I’m not sure if one device would be sufficient to protect all of the electronics on a modern vehicle. Thanks for watching!
@christopherleubner6633 Жыл бұрын
The main issue is that any wire in the vehicles system would become an antenna. The device goes across the battery and the vehicle chassis. The battery would be seen as a dead short to the pulse, however the pulse is likely to fry the SKIM and some of the sensors like the MAP and lambda sensor. Also it might fry the computer's fifo buffer chips that read out the sensors. It would likely protect from something more mundane that charges the frame rapidly such as a nearby lightning strike or power line falling on your vehicle, but an actual EMP it's not gonna work.
