What would cause it to do this, bad spark plug or just bad coil pack? I’m trying to figure out if it’s should replace the spark plug also or just the coil pack. Thanks for the video

Man this is the most down to earth explanation and excellent information. Straight to the point without a bunch of antics claiming the whole car needs to be rebuilt. My Xterra just threw this code on the way home from work at 3am. Not a good time for car troubles. Never even knew you could just buy the boots and new wires! Save a ton of money and hassle. Thank you!

I have had to learn a lot over a short time and I've binged on dozens of videos to figure things out. I can say for sure that your video is well paced (some videos I have to slow down to keep up with) and you show as much as you say. I have heard the word coil pack dozens of times but yours was the first video that made the simple point of taking out the coil - I previously thought it was more like a copper wire wrapped thing. So , yeah - thanks very much, liked and subscribed.

Dude I just wanna say thank you. You made me look like a fucking bad ass last night. My sisters 2009 Altima was throwing misfire code on 3, same hesitating symptoms. I originally was watching your spark plug video but in the comments lead me to this video. I did exactly this. Went out and got me a scanner, switched the coils around, and wouldn’t you know it the code changed to the cylinder I moved the faulty coil to. Upon closer inspection of it I could tell right away where it burnt out. Fixed this shit in 5 minutes. Thanks my dude. I owe you lunch my guy.

Michael, I bought an entire set of ignition coils for my 6 cylinder Nissan Maxima for a mere $80 at Amazon. They were shipped in 2 days. This price wasn't for the boots only, but new ignition coils. I wonder how long they'll last. One year will be enough as the replacement labor was not a big deal.

Simple explanation, good clarity, a lot better than so many so called professionals ..some too technical with their definition as if all their viewers are taking an automotive course to be certified mechanics and others too vague in their description. Guys remember that most of us come here because we recognize we are novices and need help to save us getting ripped off(so common in this industry)This video is awesome . @paulingersoll9197

P0300 means random misfire, but P0316 means random misfire in first 1000 revolutions first few minutes. If you don't have P0316, just P0300, it means you are failing on multiple cylinders when the car is in closed loop control, so more likely a sensor (crankshaft position sensor, oxygen sensor, maybe MAF sensor).

He troubleshooted the problem exactly the way it should have been done: He tested the faulty part in each cylinder and got the same error code each time the part was moved to a different cylinder. Well.... Things haven't gone exactly as smooth to date. I replaced the one coil indicated on the diagnostic code (P0304) + spark plug and the car drove great without problem for about 15-20 mile test drive. Then as I pulled into a restaurant at near idle speed, the rough idle began again, then got completely worse until the check engine light came back on and sputtered all the way home. Scratched my head then figured the misfire was O2 Sensor related b/c I had also gotten that code (P0300) simultaneous to the (P0304). Replaced the Oxy Sensor and the misfiring has gotten worse still.... I'll first move to rule out the Cylinders 2 & 6 before things get really challenging. Since the Maxima is 6 Cylinders, the rear bank requires a lot more parts to remove before you can even access cylinders 1,3,&5. So, I'm guessing I'll have to complete the process with the other 5 to hopefully fix the problem. If not there, then maybe something more in wires or otherwise... But at least you got me somewhat comfortable with what to expect in the process.

+Vroom !!! Yea, working on big engines isn't much fun at all. Let me know if it works after you are finished.

+Vroom !!! P0300 is not necessarily O2 sensor related. It indicates multiple or random misfires.

Upon reviewing my work thus far (02 sensor, Cylinder 4 Ignition Coil + spark plug replacements), it turns out simply the O2 sensor wire connector wasn't snapped completely closed. Once I got the clamp closed and the connection snug, all the misfire issues were eliminated and engine performance returned to optimal - no misfires and the dashboard gauge turned off. The car accelerated with full normal power and ran extremely strong. SO - my original issues are gone. Since you and others indicate the other sensors are likely soon to fail, I'll look to replace Cylinders 2 & 6, then 1,3,& 5 soon thereafter. THANKS again for the help!!!
