I have a 6 x 6 patio at my condo and it's filled with tomatoes, peppers, cukes, garlic & onions. A kiddie pool & several large fabric pots. I love it & I got at least 1 neighbor to join in and plant 👍

I have about 30 or more tomato plants at the moment. Some blight resistant ones in raised beds, others in greenhouse and 3 in hanging baskets. 2 other plants popped up in my little greenhouse in between the paving slabs! Tomatoes just want to grow. In the past I’ve popped a slice of my favourite tomato into compost and had so many seedlings! It’s a better idea to squeeze out the seeds and wash in a sieve then sow. You’ll never eat a tastier tomato than your own! Well done to this young man for utilising his balcony. 👍🍅🍅🍅

Pretty much exactly what I expected lol You can also get a much larger yield if you keep up with pruning those shoots at the intersections of the branches that never turn into anything. The plant can put more energy into the fruit rather than additional stems. Doesnt take much more than a pinch of the fingers if you get them early.

and is it true that you have to keep tomatoe plants from getting rained on?
@wisherevenshade40592 жыл бұрын

Wow, I have 12 raised beds in my back yard, (not all tomatoes, only 2 of the beds have tomatoes). My tomato beds do not look that great and they do not set that much fruit at once. I'm a little jealous, (as long as this is organic heirloom gardening and not gmo hybrid stuff that you get from the big box stores). Kudos to you and this is definitely what needs to be taught in schools and not as an elective! We need to get back to some simple yet very important LIFE SKILLS!

Beautiful! Have you ever rooted the cuttings you pruned off? I have had cuttings thrive and catch up to the original plants in size and production the past couple of years, so I buy fewer plants now or start fewer from seed. My little garden is all in grow bags and I use bamboo teepees but will have to try making the structure like you have done. We have a wind tunnel effect sometimes so I am always looking for ways to stabilize my big plants. Thank you for showing this!

I'm growing some as well but I was always told you needed a deeper bucket so you could cover more of the stem but your seems to be doing just great I had to put mine out in the sun off of the back porch I have more sun in the front of the house than I do the back.
@potocatepetl2 жыл бұрын
@Sister Mary Clements yes, but he has a lot of sun and that help a lot with the production and taste of the tomatoes. in some regions, certain plants just thrive. it might also be that he used some fertiliser? that could compensate to a certain degree for the missing soil. the obsession of people with the "dirt" i really do not get. people used to plant vegetable outside without mixing all kind of things in it for centuries and they had plenty of food. think also about the plants growing in the wild. Sure on the balcony you need some "help" as you do not have so much soil, but in the garden... unless one has bery little sun and really bad soil, one doesn*t need to go bananas with the rules.
