I need a showerhead with PRESSURE! I want to feel it in the back of my pores! About wool rugs, which I prefer for all but wet high traffic areas; our neighborhood vacuum salesman let us know that if you use a vacuum like a Dyson with ridiculously strong and fast beaters (the spinny brush part) you can damage wool and other natural fiber rugs, causing them to shed more and sometimes voiding the warranty. Our vacuum has two settings; we use the lower one for wool and the higher one for synthetic rugs and hard surfaces.

Re the glass table conundrum. I don't mind a glass top coffee table, when it is styled nicely, but I cannot even understand why someone would want a glass top Dining table. With the coffee table you can at least plan what the view thru the glass will be, but if you are sitting at a glass dining table the view is everyone's "lap", which isn't where I necessarily want to be looking at throughout a nice dinner.

I juxtaposed the table with inherited cherry chairs (the cherry table was in the dining room with Ghost chairs). When I moved to FL, I gave away all the cherry furniture. The glass table is too much of a good thing in my new, three sets of sliders room, especially with the Ghost chairs. I love these videos critiquing the functionality of popular trends. Is it practical? is the question the salesperson cant, or wont, help us with. More of these please Kiva. BTW I continue to love your gold-and-non-black fashion style! Wool cut-pile rugs/carpet: you can get a preview of the shedding when you examine the item in store. you grasp the ends of the tufts of pile firmly with your fingers and you draw your fingers across the pile. you rub your fingers back and forth, back and forth. shedding will happen right away, if its going to happen at all. Shedding is caused by rubbing/abrasion ie where you walk on it and also from vacuuming! yes dragging the vacuum head across the pile can cause shedding even as you suction up the fluff! don't use the "brushes" setting on the vacuum head, use the flat setting. the good news is that the more you vacuum, the faster your carpet will get through its shedding stage, and then it will stop shedding for good. Glass-top tables: there are even more reasons that Gumtree/Craigslist is groaning with glass top tables that owners can't wait to get rid of. > open glass edges on coffee tables are just waiting to be cracked by a collision with the vacuum cleaner. That happened to my aunt, sadly the coffee table was Italian with gold legs, hugely expensive. A timber table can always have a knock repaired, but glass? no >glass is COLD. I have a glass dining table and a glass desk. In the supercold winter we just had, i had to put thick runners on the edges of the tables to protect my wrists from the glass which felt cold as stone. Timber is so much warmer and cosier. (Though glass is delightfully cool on the hands in summer :)) > glass dining tables have legs which aren't attached like a normal timber table, which has lots of screws. So unless the glass table top is sitting in a full metal frame welded onto metal legs, glass dining tables can be surprisingly WOBBLY- even though they weigh So Much More than a timber table. If you are buying one, test the wobble factor by grabbing the glass edge with both hands and shaking the table top firmly in all 4 directions. Better to know sooner than later!

I love our rainfall shower and I feel like I have missed a lot my whole life before I moved into our current house. I can also switch to a hand shower and operate them separately. It drove me crazy when I was in the US and there were shower heads on the wall everywhere :-)

I recently renovated and I got a rain shower however mine is arched and the shower head itself can pivot so I can angle it like a normal shower head. Plus it has the hand held part and it has a large head.

We found a rainfall shower with an articulating arm that lets you have it flat like a regular rainfall head or tilted like a normal shower head. Because, for real. I don’t want to wash my hair every shower lol

Wool rugs shed differently. Some very little at all and some tremendously. Depends on the weave, pile, etc.

That’s definitely true!

I have owned 2 wool rugs in succession. Both shed continuously, no matter how much I seem to vacuum them. So, why buy another if the first shed like crazy, you might ask. Well, the reason is, my first wool rug never seemed to thin out which seem counter intuitive considering how much it shed. So, I bought another just to see if the second rug would shed as much (and it did) and, also, to see if the other would still look full and thick after immense shedding (and it still does a year later). I swear, it's like magic.

@@rspen2142 Did you buy handmade wool rugs or machine made wool rugs? I’m looking to buy two of them, so my interest is genuine. Would like to know if one type sheds more than the other.
@rspen21423 жыл бұрын
@@luvslyfe1 To be honest, I don't really know. Since I bought them both from Wayfair, I'm willing to be they were machine made. With that being said, I don't mind the shedding because they never thin out.

Uh you guys make me nervous! I just ordered a big wool and jute rug (50/50) two days ago. I hope it won't shed so much because of the material mix.
@deborahsummers66473 жыл бұрын
I have a rainfall shower plus a hand held. I made sure to get a faucet mixer, so I can control how I want to shower- I can have rainfall only, handheld only, or both if I want- dont not get a rainfall shower if you want one, just be sure to combine it with a hand held- it's good ( and smart) to have options!!

I had my wool rug steam cleaned and it stunk for weeks! Great tip on the sconce height...I didn't think about that. I hate seeing the cords hanging down on them. I love glass tops because they make the room look bigger.

I absolutely agree with you about the glass top furniture. I had a glass coffee table years ago, and it was the worst. I couldn’t see it when the lights were off, so I kept banging my shin against it every night when I was turning lights off before bedtime. I swore I’d never have another glass top table.

The sconce issue is my current nightmare! I ordered a beautiful sconce for over my nightstand in the bedroom. It is HUGE so the scale is completely off. I've tried to place it in other rooms in the house ( without success) but I should just chalk it up to a poor decision- lesson learned... love this video- good to see you Kiva, glad things are going well for you.💕

LOL. I lived with a normal shower for 62 years. Got a rain shower head earlier this year and love, love, love it. I don't experience the problems you are describing. Maybe it depends on the size of the shower head? I wash my face easily, in the exact way I used to wash it with my old shower. In my old one my hair would always get wet unless I used a shower cap and the same is still true. If I don't want to get wet, I just have to stand in a different place in the shower as the shower head doesn't cover the whole space.

I really enjoy your videos, and I like your insight. It makes me very excited to design my own space. My issue with rainfall showers is that, because of the gentle water fall, I always feel I can't shower quickly? I know I associate high water pressure with shower speed, which may or may not be true, but I spend more time showering because it at least feels like it takes longer to get product out of my hair. My biggest gripe is cleaning the rainfall showerhead. It's a pain, if you can't remove the head the water build up ruins the rainfall effect soooo quickly. For me, stuff needs to be nice looking and cleanable. As for the wool rug, my parents gave me a wool rug that my dad inherited from his grandma for my new apartment. So I never knew about the shedding, but I will attest to the longevity of them (it did spend 20+ yrs in storage). For sconces, they're ok. I wouldn't get one that doesn't have the ability to be folded up against the wall. I do like the look of glass furniture, I had a glasstop desk, but I never had an issue with fingerprints. It might not have been real glass though, so I don't know. I've never really considered vases. Not to say I wouldn't have one, but it probably won't ever be a first choice for interior design, unless it's one I was gifted. I know my opinions don't really matter much on this topic, but I really felt like I needed to rant about rainfall showers for a minute, and then I just kept going. :)

I'm so happy I discovered you and the down to earth wisdom in this video. Let me add another thing to think about where glass tops are concerned. I have a coffee table with a glass top that I liked even though everything you said about them is soooo true- very high maintenance. Recently, when I rearranged my furniture in a way that better suited the room and how I use it, I discovered that the sun coming in the windows created a blinding reflection off of the coffee table that was so uncomfortable I couldn't be in the room- it actually made me feel nauseous. Yes, I could close the shades but that kind of defeated the purpose of the lovely light filled room, so I ended up switching tables with another room. I don't like it as much a the glass one in this space, but it works for the improved furniture arrangement. Just something to think about before buying that reflective glass topped table 🙄

I have used spray and brush on sealers on rustic and textured items that have the "crumblies" going on. You can get it in a matte finish so it doesn't look shiny and lacquered. When redoing my house, one of the main concerns was how easy things would be to clean afterwards. I painted or sealed everything with textures that tended to catch dust and hair or make my dusting tools snag. This included wooded beams on my ceiling and the undersides of my cabinets, and an antique corroded brass floor lamp. Matte and satin polyurethane topcoats are brilliant! Cleaning is so much easier now.
