Great content. Super advice for newbies and solid reminders for us old timers. One thing I've always had a challenge with , and I've done a lot of ceremonies, is where to place the Lav Mic for best sound. There are a lot of videos for how to record audio with a Lav...but I struggle to find any with tips for our application (mic'ing an officiant/groom). Would LOVE to see a follow up to this, demo'ing that. Maybe have an assistant that you place the mic on and demo how it sounds with different placement (collar vs. lapel vs. tie, etc.). 😊

I'm probably not the best at it either. Might need to pull in Ben Stowe from NLFX for that. I think he is coming to NC soon.

@@DJJoeBunn Sent him a similar comment on the video he made for the Sennheiser Lav I bought. Thanks again Joe!
@gvmmusic76192 жыл бұрын
@@tjsongman I have found the best place is under the chin as high as you can put it without being noticed. Preferably in the middle, becasue most officiants will look down to read their ceremony notes and it is half way to the bride and groom to get their audio incase they are not mic'ed. I also ask the officiant to trun slightly when bride and groom do their vows.

Hi Joe, great advice! I have 20 years of experience as a DJ in the Napa Wine Country, I agree to everyhting in your video, and do about 85% of the ceremonies! I also have Sennheiser mics, but I have a couple more detailed questions. What is the best Lapel/Hand Held Sensativity Settings? What is the sweet spot for the mic mixer level output? What is the best Trebble/Bass settings to eliminate feedback? I also have a pro-tip: (If using wireless mics in an area that has a lot of wireless interference, turn the squelch up to High. This will eliminate 80% of potential intereference including planes or other small aircraft flying over during the ceremony. The only drawback to a High Squelch setting is the range, make sure the transmiters and recievers or within 50-75 feet and it will be clear as possible.) Thank you and we hope you and everyone else will have prosperous 2022!

Nice, got the new DJ podium. Very nice. Pro tip, look into putting in a rack mount mixer in the podium. It would replace the small analog mixer and add so much with the addition of EQ, Noise Gates, and many more inputs, so you can expand some to the production side of things. So if they have a band, you can mic up the band, so there is not a duplicated speaker set. I picked up one of the AR18 mixers for my setup. Mixer has one knob, the headphone knob. Everything else is run from a tablet or laptop. If you are used to using a laptop for your DJ music, you can mix your sound on a 2nd laptop stand. These are now very affordable at less than your battery powered speaker system in cost. As a bonus, you connect wireless so it is possible to mix from the back of the room if needed. I use mine and with a stereo AUX in for the DJ mix, and 16 mic inputs, there is never an issue of not enough channels for a small band. Do be aware that there is a learning curve to learn the digital system. It has many features, and thus can be complex and intimidating. Using an ap on a cheap Android tablet, I can even let a band mix their own monitors. It has 6 mix buss outputs for powered wedges for the band if needed. Yes it fits inside the pedestal rack just fine.

Never show up to a Ceremony with only 'One' speaker! Half the guests will be without clarity, and you'll have to turn your one speaker up, in order to compensate. Making it uncomfortable for those next to the very loud speaker. Always use (2) speakers, 100' xlr cables & some gaff tape. Mix from a 'Front of house' position, and not in the photos. You can even add nice speaker stand covers/dress kits.
