Im British and as a person that’s currently doing their masters in psychology (not sure of the terminology in the US, but I have already graduated) Chrisean is the perfect example of developmental issues and falls into VARIOUS aspects of psychology, including societal. I’m not a fan of her but I’m very uncomfortable with the way AK speaks about her. Coming for chriseans so called “lack of femininity” & attacking African American women as a whole is pretty ignorant of him considering this display of “masculine” and abrasive behaviour comes from being raised in an unsafe environment. Children in general are nurtured into the adults they become by their parents and environment. Society also plays a massive part, you could come from a great home & great parents, however if you’re raised in a terrible area/ attend terrible schools, the structure you’ve been placed in will contribute to your development. In the case of Chrisean I believe both her household & society failed her. Dismissing her upbringing is ignorant, not an “excuse”. For a woman to be in her so called “feminine energy” or in psychology terms a healthy adult, children need several factors such as, a healthy, loving, family dynamic, safety, resources (money, good education, support) and as grown women, a healthy loving relationship with their partner. Children need to be taught. Considering Chrisean grew up with a drug addicted mother. An absent, then violent and abusive father, alongside 11 other siblings is not a stable, safe, loving environment for any human being. It’s extremely unfortunate that African American men feel so comfortable to overlook where the women they insult come from and call their traumas “excuses”. If you met an abused or neglected child right now or saw it with your own two eyes you’d be devastated. Apply that same mentality when you look at adults from that and have more grace. Be it the fault of government or the household. I don’t understand the mentality of believing women that were raised in violent areas, riddled with drugs, have unsupportive, aggressive, neglectful, abusive parents are somehow supposed to behave like queen Elizabeth II. It doesn’t work that way. Men and women that had a childhood based on survival turn out many ways. None of us would be who we are if we were raised in the hands of someone else. If Chrisean was raised by Beyoncé’s parents, she’d be a completely different lady. As adults we all have the choice to work on ourselves but that takes self awareness and reflection and people that have suffered sad childhoods often avoid trying to speak about it.
