Let's not forget during the whole battle Nas was dealing with his mom having cancer. Nas was taking care of her, and moved her to his home. She passed a little after he moved her in. Just imagine your mother just passing and you have to deal with niggas trying to take your spot. Even Jungle said he doesn't know how Nas dealt with that. Oh yea, I'm a Jay fan but "Ether" got Jay but when Nas released "Last Real Nigga Alive" that put the final nail in the coffin. People slept on that record!

Jayz was just jealous of Nas. He wanted to take the top spot, he wanted the accolades that Nas had and when Bleek said that Nas was talking about him, he jumped at the opportunity to attack. I thought he was lame for going at Nas. One of Jay's only career missteps. He slept on Nas cuz he wasn't popping like he was when he first came out. He didn't think Nas had it in him. Then he dropped that Ether and shut his ass up!!

The one thing that always bothered me about Takeover was this specific line. 'You said you've been in this 10/I've been in it five-smarten up, Nas.' The problem with this line is that Jay-Z used two different measurements for himself & Nas. Takeover was released in 2001, so when Jay says, 'You said you've been in this 10/I've been in it five', Jay is using the measurement of Nas' 1st time on record in 1991 with Live at the Barbeque(Main Source ft. Nas, Joe Fatal, & Akinyele). 1991-2001=10 years. Jay uses the measurement of when his 1st album released, Reasonable Doubt-1996. 1996-2001=5 years. Jay can't use two different measurements regarding the facts. It has to be one or the other, either he uses the measurement of 1st time on record or 1st album released. It can't be both. If Jay used the measurement of 1st time on record on himself like he did with Nas, this would be the correct line. 'You said you've been in this 10/I've been in it 12-smarten up, Nas. Jay-Z's 1st time on record, 1989-Hawaiian Sophie(The Jaz ft. Jay-Z.) 1989-2001=12 years. Or Jay could've used the measurement of 1st album released on Nas, like he did himself. Then the line would be, 'You said you've been in this 7/I've been in it five-smarten up Nas.' Nas' 1st album released, Illmatic-1994. 1994-2001=7 years.

Okay, i'll do a couple. #1 "name a rapper that I aint influenced" - one of those rappers was Jay. If you do research you'll find Jay used to rap fast until Illmatic came out, then he slowed it down. #2 "Calling my crib and I aint even give you my numbers" Ok, there was this belief at the time that Jay Z was super obsessed with Nas, like scary obsessed and this was just one example of it. Anyway this actually did happen...How the hell he get the mans number? Lol weird shit #3 "All I did was give you a style for you to run with" - Like I said, after Illmatic, a lot of rappers changed their flow to be more like Nas', including Jay Z. #4 "Rocafella died of AIDS that was the end of his chapter and thats the guy ya'll chose to namd your company after?" - all this shit really happened. Rocafella was a known street dude who died of AIDS. Now at the time, people believed you could only catch AIDS through homosexual acts. So Nas basically asking, 'why would you align yourself with a gay dude?' Hence the I rock hoes, ya'll rock fellas line #5 "Foxy got you hot coz you kept your face in her puss" - LOL this shit made me laugh, because apparently it really did happen. I think Foxy Brown even admitted it. Jay Z ate Foxy Brown pussy to get her on a track. Looool

2 of hip hops greatest legends, but can't EVER be compared. Nas was born with the lyrical gift, and has always made it look easy. Jay is witty, learned from the greats around him in the 90's and perfected his craft. This has always been like comparing Jordan and Kobe. One was a man amongst his peers, inspiring on lookers with his gift. The other was a scholar that, in time, conquered the throne and made people respect his talent.

bigjayking24 Honestly, I questioned your insight with the "hella" comment.(You sounded like you were from the west coast Bay area). I'm with you, I don't side with beef, but also being from Brooklyn, there were people who did take sides. My point being, Nas drew a serious line that wasn't comedic. When that song dropped, I had a girlfriend in Queens Village and dudes in here neighborhood were acting tight against me over Ether. You really didn't get that friction-like reaction within the boroughs before. I knew dudes in Brooklyn who refused to listen to Nas, which I found to be pretty stupid. For me, Ether was a pretty personal track, although Jay arguably made things more personal with Super Ugly

Pretty much everything Has said on Ether Jay had already said about himself. I guess there was some New York guy named Rocafella who died of AIDS that I don't know anything about. Because I thought Nas made a mistake and confused John D. Rockefeller, who didn't die from AIDS and name perfectly fits with Rock Hudson, who died from AIDS (I still think this but I'm not from New York so I don't really know).What Jay said about Nas was exactly how I felt about him. One Mic is one of my absolute favorites while some of his other songs I don't know what the hell he is talking about.

Yeah. It was written is a classic. But I can listen to Nastradamus just as much as It Was Written. A lot of people claim to be Nas fans, but only know his mainstream songs. Shit from the radio... But they can't recite a single line from I Gave You Power. Nothin about The Message. Them are my two favorite songs from that album. But it's good to see that there's still people out there that can recognize real hip-hop. It don't matter how watered down the culture has become. Interviews are broken up because analytics prove that it's easier to watch short interviews as compared to long. You basically have to look at your watch to view a long video, whereas, watching a seven minute interview is a no-brainer. There's a reason Vlad and others shoot long interviews and release them broken up in short publication.

Nas is definitely a better MC than Jay Z no question. Jay obviously has a better body of work, but Nas has 2 albums that tops anything Jay z ever released in Illmatic and It was written. And what is this nonsense I keep hearing about Takeover having "facts" while Ether didn't? Ether was a better Diss song...plain and simple!!

Reasonable Doubt ≥ Illmatic In My Lifetime > It Was Written Hard Knock Life > I Am Life and Times > Nastradamus Roc La Familia ≥ Stillmatic The Blueprint > Gods Son Best of Both Worlds > Streets Disciples Blueprint 2 > Hip Hop is Dead Black Album > The N Album Kingdom Come > Distant Relatives American Gangster > Life is Good Blueprint 3 > N/A Watch the Throne > N/A MCHG > N/A Besides the fact that Jay has had more commercial success he's just put out more consistent music overall. Some of those Nas albums I'm sure 95% of y'all reading this have never heard of. If anybody feels I got the album comparisons wrong let me know which one and we can talk.
@HeROSEproduction
@HeROSEproduction 8 жыл бұрын
I gotta disagree bro. I love both artist but nas The N album is sooo underrated. I love the black album but The N album is a concept project. The message in that album is superb. Also you gotta compare Stillmatic and Blueprint, not Roc la familiar because that album was a rocafella compilation album. You gotta compare albums that were released around the same time. American gangster was released in 2007, than Life is Good came out in 2012. as the times change the music and the message change.
@St23Vincent
@St23Vincent 8 жыл бұрын
@heroseproduction I understand where you're coming from but I was in a rush and didn't match them as well as I wanted to. I just matched them based on what order they were released with the exception of I Am and Nastradamus bc I think they both dropped in '99 but I'm not sure in what order. I'll go back and check The N Album out again and I'll let you know what I think. But I feel it's become cool to dislike J for whatever reason but the music can not be denied. I don't think ether was better than Takeover or Blueprint 2. I like them both but I feel Jay gets judged on things outside of his music like the way he doesn't fuck with people from the ROC or whatever.
@St23Vincent

word, jay wanted to get close to Nas because he was popping. remember illmatic came out in 94 Jay first album didnt come out until 96 so nas already had the upper hand. Jay was always the type of nigga to stay around other cats that were hot. Hes a businessman. Think about it after nas the next big thing was Biggie, he always leached off of other artists. Kanye came out his album was critically acclaimed then all of sudden he ends up taking Kanye after the roc broke up when he was Dame artists. Then they drop a duet album because kanye is more relevant. He wants to work with Drake so bad but Drake feels hes the new Jay and it must hurt his feelings knowing that he isnt the go to go guy for verse anymore. Jay is nice but he aint Nas level. Nobody is on Nas level, Nas is GOAT in opinion.
