I always get payed up front and have it in my contract ..as a performer in anything you do. You're a business yoy have to protect yourself.. Don't be afraid to tellnthe client that shit..you're the boss!

That's happened before. Well I get booked for a day then get cancelled on last minute. So I changed it up and now require a deposit to save the date. At least if I get cancelled on, I made a little bit of money.

5th Element Entertainment , if you have a cancellation policy in the contract, you may be able to get the whole balance PLUS any lost wages from declined events for that day. Small claims court cost $175 (deposit covers this), if you win,they pay the cost plus the settlement to you. (This is the way it is here in Fl)

That has happened to me as well, but it was a sweet 16, where apparently the venue had a DJ already in package and then I showed up and I also got my cancelation fee through the contract and had the venue DJ stay and do the gig.

You got paid,didn't you? He had a contract,with a cancellation policy. Sketchy clients, man. I've had a few weddings cancel on me last minute (-1 week)this year. I spoke with a lawyer. The contract is binding(here on Florida). Even an oral agreement is binding. Offer them a payment plan, if they refuse,take them to small claims.

bro focus on the most important part...its not about flashy lights which most aspiring djs get first ...first focus on getting a controller and get some good starter speakers like Alto or save up a bit and get ev zlx12 or zlx15, you dont need an amp if you get powered speakers, which its 2018 you shpuld get powered speakers, less for you to log around
