One of the most if not the most underrated DJs of all time. Also Mr Mixx from 2 live crew. They didn’t have the most lyrical MCs or from the east coast so they were overlooked

I think it's just because in the '80s, everybody who wasn't from NYC pretty much got ignored by urban media until they hit big everywhere else BESIDES New York.

One of my most Epic Memories of a live performance ever was the crowd straight gettin Hype as FUCK to Joe Goin' OFF on the ones and twos after him and Rodney O finished doing some of their tracks live back at Samerika Hall in my hometown of Carson (this same year). Joe didn't need any gimmicky shit for his sets. But then you had other fools like DJ Hamburger Helper, who was pretty alright and everything, I'll give him so-so cred for that, but would try to hype up his set by doin' shit like takin' off his Reebok shoe and scratchin' with that shit while his homey was on the MIC trying to make like it was a big deal, Hehe. You know... and others who'd be all beat-juggling and trying to incorporate behind the back manipulations while turning a rotation with their body. Shit like that Man..fools have no idea how much more insanely easy it is to rock the fuck out of a set with Modern Tech these days. To anyone reading this, when you get a chance, for shits and giggles on a decent system, with Vinyl, Play Planet Rock forwards... then by hand play ShyD's Gotta be Tough backwards beat-matching... and then look over at your Sub ;) EDIT: Oh yeah, also seeing Rodney and Joe as Casa Camino Real during the time period of "These are my Beats" with Egyptian Lover. That set was hype too! And Oh Yeah... Thank Heaven for KDAY on the bus going to school in the morning!

I never knew he was that good. They didn't get any play in NYC back in the day but, I remember them from Fresh and Word Up magazine, flossin' the finger waves and Cazals with acid wash denim suits. They were doing their thing. It's amazing how labels didn't push artists and made them very limited and they could've made some NYC money too. NYC missed out.

Just the fact that Joe did this on those clunky large Numark mixers is amazing enough. I think using the line switch lost him points at the DMC's against Cash Money. I remember those things constantly breaking off too lol

- The way Aladdin uses the line switch scratch and transforming on Rock The Bells at the ENDING of "Aladdin's On A Rampage", you CANNOT duplicate that on a crossfader. Listen real closely, you'll see what i mean. But u have to hear it on the "Aladdins on a Rampage" song.

yeah, of course Qbert would, but he would eat up most DJ's on the planet. My point is, at the time cats like Joe, Aladdin, Mixmasters etc. were ruling shit. It's a whole other conversation to bring Qbert into it. He was influenced by them just as much as we were. Props on mentioning Battlecat tho. Not many people give that dude his props. He was tearing shit up bitd. I still remember that D.O.C. routine to this day.

Dstyles prob gets more props than q now too. Let's put in perspective though cause Q came from the sf bay mobile scene. Quest and Disk, who are Latin by the way, are just as dope as q and they all came up together. Q was the first to put it out there. Why you puttin down the bay? I got Luv 4 LA
