I’m in the Apple ecosystem. In January I bought a “used” MacBook Pro 2012 fully specked out. I7 processor, 1TB SSD, 16gigs Ram. It was actually never used. Perfect condition! $700. Running very smooth. My other MacBook Pro 2009 is now my back up machine. I started using Serato on an HP Windows in 2007. That thing was very glitchy.

Great video, but I still say do your research. After a week of comparing Mac with Windows and comparing AMD with Intel and talking to IT professionals, I found what worked perfect for me running VDJ 2021. I recently purchased an Acer gaming laptop that had the AMD Ryzen 5 4600h with the Nvidia GTX 1650, 8 gig Ram and 256 gig SSD (all of this is easy upgraded with extra slots). This thing is lightening fast using full stems on VDJ. I set the VDJ to use GTU instead of the CPU. I ran music video on all 4 channels of my Numark NS62 and mixed it using beat samples, sound fx and video fx with not one crash or slowing down. Flawless, fast and reliable for $669 from Best Buy. I will eventually upgrade my RAM from 8 to 24 gig and add a 1 tera SSD. This laptop will not disappoint you.

Hmm. i5 quadcores are perfectly fine for DJ'ing. i7 just have hyperthreading which doesn't really add much performance. Btw: the latest AMD processors wipe the floor with some of Intel's offerings. So I wouldn't 'steer clear' of them. They are perfectly fine to DJ with. DJ software really isn't that taxing on a computer. Also: you have laptops with SSD+HDD drives. Where you use the SSD for the software and HDD for the music. HDD's are much cheaper for much more storage. Reliability isn't really a concern. You need to backup anyway. Also: new Mac's aren't upgradable without paying exuberant Apple prices whereas you can upgrade the hard drives and ram of most PC laptops with ease for a lot less money.

One major thing that I think windows laptop has an advantage over Mac is, you can replace or upgrade parts as needed. If you get 4gb of memory now because of a budget then want to upgrade later, you can and it won't cost you another arm or leg. On a Mac, you have to get their parts which are way over priced. I've taken old laptops and upgraded harddrives to ssd and added more memory and they work great.

I called Serato and they told me it will work and they have a few work arounds, but don't really support AMD processors. I switched to Rekordbox Dj and the AMD laptop fans just ran, but it ran the software just fine. The best thing to do is uninstall all programs not needed. Only use the internet to download the dj software. It's not all about the price or brand, it's how you set it up and what your doing. I used a $200.00 AMD A10 laptop to practice Serato with no problems or lag. I used a $250.00 ASUS windows 10, 8 gb of ram laptop, to practice with Rekordbox Dj and had no problems. Actually there is a reason why mac os is better when handling audio, that is core audio. Core audio is the process that handles audio devices and software, it allows programs to connect directly to the OS core, that gives it lots of reliavility, and its the reason why macs don't need to install audio drivers. In another side windows haves lots of patches on top of the operating system core, so they need drivers as Asio, to go throught all that layers. Working in the pro audio industry, the most of the pc failures that i have seen when working with audio, are because of the drivers, rather than the pc itself

Good Tips Rick, im a lifetime windows guy , i agree that you have to invest more for the optimal windows specs, While mac is an industry go to There is a big change coming by way of the chips in near future and intel chips will be out and that could mean less support as years go by when new laptops come online with proprietary chips made by apple. Djays tend to keep mac laptops for years so as they age the support for issues will get less attention as the go to a new generation of macs , point to consider

I think you nailed it bro. You just exagerated a bit on performance. I use a lenovo (windows) laptop with a 3rd gen intel i7, 2Tb SSD, Nvidia geforce 660m graphics card and 8 gb of memory. I use it with my virtual Dj running FullHD videos to external TV's, chrome tabs opened on youtube to download requests on the fly, a video downloader app, my document browser opened and a profesional light control software in the background. Oh, also my excel and powerpoint documents that have all the details about the wedding I am playing at, as well as my whatsapp web. My point here is that it is not so much about how new the pc or the components are, it is about keeping your laptop clean (digitally and phisically), making shure the specs are on point (how fast the cpu, gpu and storage run), and having enough headroom on your memory and storage. But definetly, I would absolutely stick to the specs you provided for aa new one (adding the GPU and leaving the CPU between a core i5 and a core i7).

From experience if you are going to use windows you do need a well spec'd one, i made the mistake of getting an acer aspire 3 and it was terrible, for roughly the same money i then bought a 2012 MBP and have used this as my main dj laptop ever since. Lifelong tech nerd here. The buying advice I gave people 15 years ago is still true: first, what are you most comfortable with? Second, if you are NOT a computer nerd, do you have a nerd friend who will help you when you have computer issues? If so, you might want to buy what they will support. Mac and Windows both get the job done, but each has their own area where they're a little better. If I was starting out as a DJ, I'd go Windows. For audio and video recording and editing, I'd go Mac. No room for holy wars among the logical. Gaming? Windows. Servers? Linux.

Buy a Mac it last forever. end of story. take a 5-6 year old PC vs 5-6 year old Mac and run serato see which one runs better. not only with the mac you have higher resale value, you have a longer life cycle of the battery and charger. almost all PC's batteries fail or charging port gets damaged etc. as DJs we are constantly growing and as rick said 13 or 15 is a good size but as you grow you may want to upgrade. buying a mac gives you a little bit of resale value after 2-3 years of ownership. for bang for your buck it will always be a PC it will always have better specs and more to offer however there is a reason all djs use Macs and the reason is because they work, they are reliable and they have resale value.

Bullshit. My 6 year old PC desktop still runs fine and still no need to upgrade. i7 5820K ,32GB ram. The only thing I upgraded (which you can't do on a Mac unless it's the Mac Pro) is the graphics card from an AMD Radeon R9 290X to an Nvidia GTX 1080. And installed an SSD along the multiple drives built in already. My 4 year old laptop with i7 and 16gb ram also just works without the need to upgrade. Macs and PC's have the same hardware basis inside like the processor etc. So any Intel PC Vs Intel Mac from the same era and type will perform the same aside from some minor software differences.

SIDE NOTE TO ANYONE GETTING A MACBOOK DONT TOUCH ANYTHING WITHIN 2016-2019 AS THOSE HAVE MASSIVE RELIABILITY PROBLEMS WITH THE KEYBOARD! If you’re on a less than 1k budget the 2015 MacBook Pro 15” has all the required specs for serato. If you want a 13’ don’t get the base model. Go with a 10th gen cpu model. Otherwise, great vid as always DJ Rick!

I have a 2014 15" retina maxed out, and I haven't been given a reason to upgrade yet. I want my ports back. If it comes down to it, I'll switch to windows before I give up my ports.

@neob90173 жыл бұрын
@@enriqueangelo6888 oh yeah the M1 Macs are great and they did redesign the keyboards. As long as your software works on it or can be used in the intel emulation layer then you’ll be just fine.
