DJ Muggs is literally the professor of the newer sound of Hip Hop. He’s a living legend that doesn’t care about the accolades that comes with being a legendary producer. He truly cares about preserving the Hip Hop culture and sound by supporting real MC’s that care about the same.

Big ole facts! I like how you said professor, and ironically it seems like he still a student of the game. Him and alchemist really share that temperament and I think it's no coincidence they're 2 of the best right now. Now that said, he shoulda chose better features. I think the other 2 soul assassins focused less on big named legends and more of just dudes who can spit and they were a lot better than this joint

@@BSideRapReviews - I think what happened with this SA3 is that the songs are short and the baselines don’t hit as hard. The times have changed and he did a great job of adjusting. He’s a legend he can do that. But unfortunately in comparison to the first 2 it’s just not fair the creative atmosphere was through the rough and those are classics

Im always excited to see work from Muggs. The basslines in his samples are always on point. Im On and Where We At are on repeat. The flute/recorder loop on Where We At just sends me to a different world. Sicilian Gold, Majik and Crazy Horse are also on my repeats as well. I will say I can do without some of the other songs tho, but it’s dope seeing Muggs keeping Soul Assassins alive. Salute B-Side

Yeah facts baselines and drums don’t ever miss for him. Faaaacts idk what exactly it remind me of but it sound nostalgic for some reason. For me, crazy horse best song on here. I been running that nonstop. Actually been playing street made a ton, just skipping to Freddie’s part lol. Yeah, I feel like outside the best songs, muggs production wasn’t nearly as consistent as it normally is. But rapping held this back more than the beats to me. Soul assassins 2 didn’t even have the big names as 3 did, but the rapping was still significantly better. He’ll bounce back tho - im excited to see who he work with next. I want to see him and Roc run it back. All their songs they’ve done since kaos been way better than the album was lol. Salute bro! Preciate you tapping in! 💪🏾

B-Side, you already know if Roc is involved I'm showing up to the party carrying some expensive wine I can't afford. He's been my favorite MC since Reloaded so I'm a little biased but he really seems to outshine niggas anytime he's on a feature. Crimeapple is dope too tho. He be having me walking around randomly exclaiming "dohma" under my breath and ion even know what that shit means. Apologies to my Colombian niggas if I spelled it wrong.🫢 I hate to say it but I agree with you on the old skool MCs on the album. Cube needs to focus on the Big 3 and stay away from the booth. I will definitely be making a playlist minus most of the old heads unfortunately although I appreciate what Muggs was going for with the pairings on here. Last, Jay Worthy is mid and I have no idea how he continues to end up on projects with some of the best MCs in the game.

Same bruh - I can't miss a Roc verse! I got put onto Roc Marci late. My first joint was Behold a Darkhorse and I that joint got me hooked. He's top 2 or 3 on the planet right now imo. Lmaooo no cap I be doing the same thing 😂😂😂 I think he saying "toma" which means "take" in Spanish. Not sure why he'd be saying that tho - maybe it's his version of Puff's "take that" lol. But yeah I'm with you. Crime not the most consistent rapper but when he's on he's own. Normally, he's at his best when he's working with a dope producer too. Yeah bruh I'm not tryna hear no rapper who aint active and still nice. There's plenty rappers from that era or around that era who still nice that he coulda chose from. Woulda loved to hear maybe Busta, Black Thought, Jadakiss, Pharaoh Monche, or any of the other wu tang cats. Just wayyyy too many better options than those awful verses we got. Bruh I don't get it either - some of these guys just got friends with pull and get brought along for the ride. Honestly feel the same way about TF. Matter fact my entire intro to TF was Schoolboy Q's Tookie Knows....a song that I think woulda been one of Q's best songs if TF and the other dude wasn't on it lol.

Nothing but facts in every sentence. I’m a certified old head and Marci is my favorite emcee with KA making a close 2nd. The Metal Clergy Myth lives on… Glad somebody addressed these reg’lar sounding ass dudes with the producer hookups. …and Stove ain’t been fire since he started talking greasy about Marci. Westside’s last album was trash too😄 Ok, the curmudgeon is done.

I don't know. I really like that Ceelo Green track. Him and Muggs are working on a project together where Ceelo raps the entire project. Something I've been waiting for since he went solo. Apparently that beat is from an old 1998 beat tape from Muggs. I think the beat is fire, and Ceelo is playing homage to Chicano culture.

Great review dawg. I agree pretty much whole-heartedly with your takes. The tape had its moments for sure but the variation in skill levels and beat selection(which can partly be attributed to the rappers) made it a bit of a roller coaster. I know we’ll hear better from Muggs in the near future, and these past few years he’s given us truly amazing material. For elite projects we got Voir Dire that just dropped, and Mach seems to be right around the corner. Speaking of, we’d love to see a Voir Dire reaction fasho.

Preciate you! Yeah joints like Crazy Horse, Sicilian Gold, and Skeleton Bones make it worth the listen but dang it was a shaky ride lol. Yeah, imo this like the only real miss from him in this whole era of his career. He obviously still got it cus his beats on Champagne for Breakfast were AMAZING! Ready for him to do a one rapper project those. I haven't peeped the Voir Dire joint yet - I didn't realize it had actually dropped until like a day ago because they didn't have it on streaming. I'm most likely doing reaction of that. Bro at this point, I think Mach is waiting for Gunn to drop so he can step on his release lmao. I don't think they on good terms and Mach's album seemed like it was finished months ago.

Yeah muggs one of my fav producers but he aint kill it like he normally do. Yeah the Roc and Crimeapple song was my fav too - they went off! Wish all the rapping was on that caliber. That chord sound similar af! I think it might be a different sample tho cus the hood blues sample is horns…I’m not 100% but it sound like keys on check in but it still might be. Classic sample - when Sean price rapped over it on figure 4, I think that’s was my first time hearing Sean p.

Not that Tyler and Earl drop much more (and def not frank lmao) but they obviously got a big enough following for it not to matter

Review is on point. I have some disagreements but overall I agree. Slick Rick verse was dope in my opinion and also Scarface. CeeLo joint is def a big miss. I love MC Ren and Cypress but you were right. B Real is not the lyricist he used to be and Cube and Ren sounded so fucking rusty/corny and they're definitely out of shape lyrically. It seems like a fan service or just tryna make a big fuzz about the big names on that song. MC Ren song with Cypress from 20 years ago was dope... Southland Killers... this one not so much. Muggs for the very most part is fucking flawless. His body of work in the last 5 years to me is even better than his work with Cypress Hill... Master of the dark sound.

You funny as hell when you made the Ceelo Green face. Last time I didn't mind his voice was when he sang for DOOM on Benzie Box. Roc is today's Rakim. Gibbs got crazy bars but I can't stand his ass. He ever come to Philly a dumb ass 46 yr old with a similar look as me will have to really show restraint not to track him down and tee off on him. Why? Reasons are so embarrassingly stupid I won't even mention. On another note...... I was doing Uber overnight and picked up a Jamaican lady from work at Children's Hospital. While playing Sundial album, this lady actually said "this music is horrible". If we weren't on the expressway I may have kicked her ass out. I downloaded that album to give my women passengers a good woman emcee making some beautiful art to enjoy and she just dissed that jawn. She might had preferred that coochie art and for some reason she offended me so I just turned her speakers off and still enjoyed Noname from up front.......Back to this project man you gotta give my rap idols a break even though I agree. You are so funny and right but it hurts to hear. All in all if I like an album I download it and I'm still not sure if I'm downloading this. Great job once again.

Lol man I was confused dawg! I don’t really mind GSU voice at all when he actually singing - the song here was some bs lol. Lmao give Freddie a break dawg 😂😂 im forreal tryna hear the reason tho lol! And i like the Roc rakim comparison. What rakim was doing in his era was so groundbreaking. Now I will say, rakim literally had no one on his level imo and I think there’s a couple rappers on same level as Roc (like Mach Hommy, ransom, ka) but no one can do it exactly like Roc. Dudes one of my favs. Lmaoooo ay if is she was older, it might not have been that it was noname. For some of the older ladies, you can be rapping about Jesus but in their mind they rapping bout drugs and killing people 😂 If she was young tho yeah she might just be lost lol. Bruh I feel you but I HATE when rappers be messing up they legacy lol! Preciate you tapping in dawg 💪🏾 salute!

@@BSideRapReviews Rakim settled the flow down from yelling and added the multi syllables but Kane and G Rap definitely was doing the same thing. Even LL was doing multis but he was a yeller. KRS to a lesser degree. But to your point Rakim was doing it in 86/87 and it felt like a higher elite level. If you even looked at Moe Dee and Caz they were on another level than everyone else in the early to mid 80s but Rakim lyricism as a whole was so revolutionary. It's others technically sound as Roc but he took what DOOM and Sean Price did a little earlier added his fly shit to it and carved a lane for himself that those who followed him live in now. I think underground had a backpack stigma until Roc was adding lyricism to that fly street talk. Now you can't just be no coke or street rapper without lyricism if you want the underground and independent scene to take you seriously and I think Roc is a big part of that.
