i've spent way too many years being naive and thinking kpop was just pop. i also thought it was only in the korean language. i didn't see the point of listening to music i didnt understand. 2021 was the year i decided to be more open minded to new music. i came across blackpink and I was in shock seeing Kill This Love. I was not expecting to hear english and rap. the fact that they go back and forth between 2 languages and the transition from rap to pop vocals is so smooth. i'm so glad i found them. they seem like such sweet women in real life and on stage, they pack a punch.

Blackpink is the first Kpop group to render an homage to HipHop🖤💖. They released the song in August, which is the 49th anniversary of Hiphop. They used references from Hiphop artists like Biggie smalls, 50CENT,Dr.Dre, Aliyah, destiny’s child, & Rihanna. They were sadly attacked by several haters, & were accused of stealing the work of other artists. Idiots don’t know what an HOMAGE is, & sampling. It’s all good though. The song still did amazing.

You should check out Big Bang, G Dragon the leader of Big Bang was Jenny's mentor when she was a trainee. Big Bang we're the first Kpop group to really bring hip-hop and having two rappers in a group in Kpop and to write and produce their own music paving the way for the new groups. They were the first to bring Kpop international along with their sister group 2NE1. G Dragon was the youngest rapper in Korea at age 13 after hearing a Wu Tang Clan album. G Dragon and CL (the leader of 2NE1) are big fans of Wu Tang Clan and others. You will also love CL she is a badass.

I appreciate you taking the time to do this💯 Also, really thankful that you look at K-Pop as being INFLUENCED by western hip-hop and they(Kpop) are in NO WAY trying to claim it as their own. Koreans just got out of a major war a little over 50 years ago and there was no type of music industry. When S. Korea allied with America .. S. Koreans got their first taste in modern music and it was heavily influenced by American east coast/west coast hip hop, R&B, Rock and POP, therefore the similarities. But K-pop has definitely found a way to be their own dominant genre.
