My guess is that there's a dropped neutral or ground somewhere in the system and you are getting brief 240v bursts. Always use an outlet tester before you plug anything in at a trade show/venue.

Thanks for sharing this. I recently got the NXL 24a mk2s but haven't taken them out yet for a gig. I was surprised to find that the mk2 models don't have a power button. I've been running them off of batteries in my garage. I may just do that for my live gigs as well. That way I know they will be getting pure sine wave electricity. I did have an rcf j8 not power up once previously. The fuse wasn't blown. I had to send the amp to rcf for them to fix. Thankfully it was under warranty and turnaround time was fast.

Had this happen with internal fuses popping on SRX815p's. Only difference was no Furmans were in play - they were directly plugged into a 3 socket extension cord. All 3 of them went out around the same time once music started playing. Got them fixed under warranty, and they were fine *until* the next event at that venue. Same thing happened _AGAIN._ We came to the conclusion it's something to do with the house power, even though it tested as correct wiring and 116v. Can't be a coincidence to have 6 popped fuses at the same outlet.

For what it's worth, Furman power strips don't have the same conditioning capabilities of the 1U rackmount conditioners, especially if they're not the EVS type with a red LED that shuts down when spikes are detected. But Furman as a manufacturer is fantastic! I'd get on the phone with them and explain what happened and see if they have any feedback. Most of their products come with really great warranties, but they're one of those who historically still honor a full replacement outside of warranty if there's a defective product. I once sent them a pic of a 1U that seemed like it got fried, they told me to take another one but after I destroyed it with a hammer then they let me ship it back in for a full replacement. Also, welcome to the neighborhood! I meant to comment on an earlier video, but AVEX is basically across the street from you near the bowling alley. We probably have a spare fuse for your bad speaker in our shop.

Good to hear you'll be coming to our neck of the woods. Hell yeah, dude. It'll be fun as hell. The afterparties are...well, you'll see. There are usually 15 or so vendors. Instead of theories, carry a multimeter. You should have one in your bag to diagnose issues on the circuit. I can't see why running cold sparks on the same circuit would be an issue - which exact model of Furman do you have? There are 10A, 15,A, 16A, 20A...etc. Really, though, I've never worried about speakers on conditioners - keep your low voltage stuff on those (mics, controller, laptop)...they're a lot more sensitive and what they're intended for.

For clarification - you referenced a Furman Power Strip and then a Furman Power Conditioner. I use both. Love both of those products. However, I never run my speakers through either. I have a TrippLight PDU in my rack - basic Surge Protector. I wouldn't doubt that the power from the venue had something to do with this incident as well.

About 8 years ago when performing at a barn venue in Zebulon, running everything through a Furman power strip. There was a surge in the power as it was a janky type venue and lost both speakers during sound check. Ran to Walmart and bought a 15" powered speaker to get me through the night. Contacted Furman and they realized it was a faulty conditioner.

Another thing qbout Power Conditioners / Surge protectors is that in order for the Surge Protectors to work properly, the Ground Wire has to be in tact at the power source.

Fuses are designed for over load protection, not because of high or low voltage. If each cold spark draws 2 to 3 amps a piece, then potentially you're drawing 8-12 amps. You're RCFS are probable going to draw 8-10 amps combined. When you're at those shows they usually give you the option to pay for 15 or 20 amps circuits. However, even if you had 20 amps, you'd be right on the border of blowing that 20amp circuit at the panel. That still wouldnt cause your speakers to blow. I'd say your problem stems from the power conditioner. Many times its just a marketing scheme, they really dont regulate the power. Another thing that can cause voltage problems is daisy chaining from one device to another. Internal circuity and poor power packs can cause problems. That being said 128v might be a little high but it is normal, the problem might arise when it gets to 132v and higher. If everything is plugged into the power conditioner, Im willing to bet thats the problem.

I will run a quad box from the wall direct to the booth and plug in furman for my mixer computer controller all low current stuff, and then plug 1 speaker or sub with that, and also run a second quad box for 2nd top and or sub. It's your power cord that is the problem. If there were a voltage drop, that would affect everything plugged into that suppressor. If it was a power spike your suppressor should have caught that. So that drops that out of the equation. The fuse in your speaker protects everything from power spikes. And being that there were other things plugged into the same strip and they weren't affected, that drops that out. The only common thing is the power cords. I'm assuming the power cords have power con ends on one side. I'd be willing to bet that the connections inside the power con plug were loose and caused the problem. I've had gear with those ends on them and have found in the first couple of times using them to have the connections inside the plug loose. Check that. Hopefully that fixes your issue. BTW. I think it's awesome how you've grown your business in such a short time. Keep up the good work. Dj Frank Thunder Productions.

I’m not an electrician, but using a UPS might work in this case?
@alanhilder1883
@alanhilder1883 4 ай бұрын
I am an electrician ( Australian, different voltages, currents, frequencies, wire sizing ). You would want one that is always on the ups, supply is just charging the batteries. ( can't think of the words for this type, brain blank ). The inverter is the filter, only the correct voltage and frequency out, but that means it has to be able to run the power all the time including any switching spikes from your gear. The battery charger just has to be able to keep up with and sometimes catch up. These systems are not the cheap ones and the batteries are heavy. But I like the idea lots.
@cameronmello8130

Hi Rick, I'm an electrican and one of my friends pointed this video out to me. Fruman power conditioners are made for static to mild dynamic loads (+-0.5 amps) such as wireless mics as an example. Not fast changing dynamic loads (+- 0.5< amps) such as speakers. The same thing goes for GFCIs because of how they work and a bunch of technical stuff that I don't feel like typing out.

ID love to sit and have a beer with you just to laugh!!! How did you get Spinielli to DJ your wedding? You should’ve let me do it so you can learn. HIGH STANDARDS? Bro you use and sell cheap lights!!! I’m surprised you got a pair of those NX24’s. Not like you to use such a high end speaker. I guess Nick requested them he has high standards on sound. Your having a power issue? I thought you were a ENGINEER!!!!!

@@alanhilder1883 but if they’re under warranty and Canal Sound said they would get them fixed for free, it’s not costing $5K. That’s a misleading thumbnail for clickbait!

@@isaacmejia9856 What cost him wasn't a mistake, it was needing a cherry picker, that is a elevated work platform. It was factored into the job's costs.
