guess why Adam Rupp doesn't arrange more often for Home Free.....Because his arrangements are so complex and difficult. It is absolutely stunning. All of these guys are just next level talented and skilled. No matter what they put their focus on, it turns out to be stellar. The performance of this was fabulous, as well. The intro beat boxing is the essence of winter. Ice crunching, the sharp intake of breath when you first go out into the really cold weather, the frigid wind. Really sets a mood, doesn't it?! By the way, Adam does a solo version of Carol of the Bells in his solo sets at the live shows that is jaw dropping. You can find a fan video of it on You Tube. Great reaction, as usual. It was the same reaction I had the first time I heard it. WTH is happening? How can anything be this fantastic and so different??!! lol

I was never fond of this song - until Home Free's rendition of it. Naturally, the singing & harmonies are terrific and Adam's arrangement of it and beatboxing are out of this world (he truly must be an alien). Thanks for playing this & your comments. If you haven't yet heard "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" (with Jeffrey East & The Oak Ridge Boys) and "Christmas in Dixie" (with Alabama) they're must-sees.

I grew up with the choral version of this song. (And if you were in choir in the 70's, you know the arrangement that I'm talking about.) I absolutely hated that song. Home Free has totally made over this song, and now it's one of my favorites.

Austin’s ‘wailing’ is a descant, a distinct melody sung above the main melody. Yes, this is astounding. Home Free says they won’t let Adam arrange any more songs because of the complexity of this one.

It's a little haunting with all the echoes in the ice cavern. Add a funky beat with an intricate rhythm and beautiful harmonies, and now you have awesomeness. Normally, you'd hear this performed by a church choir with lovely harmonies, but no percussion. Once you hear this version though, it's hard to go back to the original. They just released a new song called Christmas in LA that has some of that same funky vibe. I think you'd really enjoy it😊.

I normally dislike "strange" (as in non-traditional) arrangements of Christmas carols. However, this is hands-down my favorite HF Christmas carol. Absolutely love the complexity of it. I heard HF sing this live 2 yrs ago, and my ear still remembers Tim's "Gold..." I'd be afraid to put it on the radio because Tim's bass notes might break the speakers! Then there's Austin's angelic voice floating over the top. Sigh. Just incredibly beautiful... 😊

Until Tim started singing, I kept thinking they need to hire Adam for the next Jason Voorhees movie. I don't think Do You Hear What I Hear has ever scared me as much as that 28-30 seconds!!!! Then it became the song that I love (I'm a Pagan with a weird love of *some* Christmas songs, O Holy Night is probably my favorite). ok, I think any time we see Tim's hand start floating down we just need to be ready for the heart arrhythmia from the bass. Elizabeth Zharoff has explained that hand gestures can enhance some notes. Tim's just means rattling windows, funky heart beats, and earthquakes. 🤯💥

For me one of the best arranged songs, or perhaps the best, of Home Free. So impressive! The phenomenal beatboxing/vocal percussion , the overwhelming bass(notes), the great harmonies, the sound effects, colors, etc. in such a beautiful but cold scenery. Absolutely loved your reactions throughout this. One of the things which is so amazing about Home Free is not just their musical skills as singers, their ranges and ability to harmonize so well but their technical skill as well. Their arrangements are as amazing as anything else they do and elevates their music to a level above everyone else. As you listen to other reactors who are themselves well trained in the technical side of music and they point out the particular choices that are made in chords, timing and other aspects of the arrangement you really come to appreciate all the more the level of skill and talent they bring to everything they do. Even their "Funny" songs. Always looking forward to your next reaction.

Adam Rupp's original introduction to this song got thoughtlessly deleted to be replaced by the standard tour date boilerplate. I managed to recover the introduction, which I believe gives some great insight to his thoughts on making this arrangement: On the surface, this arrangement of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" sparks the imagination with different musical themes, and brings life to several different scenes or imagery about the birth of Christ. However, a deeper understanding of the song reveals a call for peace in a chaotic violent world under the simple truth preached by Christ: love. Originally written during the Cuban missile crisis, a parallel can be drawn to any time when the world needs a reminder to love not hate. The theme of competing voices is echoed in the execution of the 4 different vocal parts that come to clarity at the 4th verse and unify with the same message in 5 octaves: "Listen to what I say. Pray for peace, people everywhere." - Adam Rupp

This song makes me want to go outside at night and look for the Eastern Star. I like this song to start with but I "LOVE" HF's upgrade of this song. The beginning of this song really gives you the feel of what it would have been like back in the days of Bethlehem when Christ was born. Tim gets a "Dragon" growl in there and blows your mind. Then Austin comes in with these "Angelic" high ringing notes. And then back to Tim's Dragon notes again. And when they get to "He will bring us Goodness and Light", and Tim goes so far down and Austin goes so far up, they just seem to "SPLIT" the whole earth in half with those opposing notes. EPIC !!! My most favorite HF song. Thanks for your reaction, your so entertaining to watch. Have a Merry Christmas !

You paused at the point where they do one of the more impressive things they did in this piece. "Listen to what I say" is done in 4 different octaves starting with Tim in the basement and ending with Austin in the stratosphere. For your own pleasure you need to go back through and listen for it.

This is the 3rd song I heard by HF. 5 years ago I finally decided to check out these guys who were all over KZbin. I never expected to love an a cappella group. Well, first it was “Man of Constant Sorrow”- had to listen several times. Then “How Great Thou Art “- one of my favorite hymns- and had to listen several times. I was becoming a Home Fry. Then came “Do You Hear What I Hear?”. I was officially hooked. This is one of my favorites by them. I suggest that you react to “Angels We Have Heard On High “- Angelic Rob leads off, and the arrangement is stunning. And if you want more Christmas songs that are not a typical arrangement, I highly recommend Home Free Hosanna concert 2013 singing the carol “Joy To the World “. (This in the video title). Gospel Rob has the lead, and he really cuts loose. It’s a jazzy, funky arrangement, and there’s even a fun beatbox breakdown. I think you’ll LOVE it!
