Great reaction. This song is several years old, the group has undergone a change and added Chance, who also has great range from Bass to Tenor. Did you notice that Tim, the true bass, sang the first lead as a tenor. His range is reportedly 5 octaves + and has on more than one occasion blown out the sub-woofers in their live concerts. These are just their Christmas songs, which are phenomenal yes, but wait until you hear their pop songs, R&B, Country, and Folk songs. Pentatonix is very good, I personally think that Home Free is just more versatile in style and ability with their sound and Adam as beat boxer. (Adam does an amazing drum solo in their live shows that true drummers think is amazing, just right but not too much). Keep falling down the HF rabbit hole. You are becoming a Home Fry!

Larry Adam Rupp with his beat boxing , we call him a freak of nature. There is no other beat boxer that can hold a candle to him. Not 5hey aren't very talented just Adam is exceptional. They're in Minnesota that day it was -13 . Love the looks on you face when you're in awe of what you're hearing. They have a comedic side to them also. Full of Cheer is an Original and so is Snow Globe.

Listen/watch HF cover of "Blue Ain't Your Color" and "Hopelessly Hoping" - they can be as precise as PTX, just different genres. Don't try to rank them or compare to each other. Each group has its strengths. And then you throw Voiceplay into the mix! They also have a basso profundo base Geoff Castelucci.

These guys are something else. I like PTX, the same goes for VoicePlay they are really great but there is this difference between acknowledging great music and really love and seek it out on a regular basis and for me personally the second is definitely Home Free. It's not just how great they sound, I like their diversity, their down to earth, goofy personalities, the way they went out of their way to keep in touch with their fans even in this crazy times. You had to listen to some of their funny songs/videos - they can literally be like 5-year olds on a sugar rush, being completely hilarious and still sound amazing. Full of Cheer - an original written by Tim is a Christmas song and is a great example for their funny side.

Home Free, Pentatonix and VoicePlay are all great. I agree with my fellow Home Fries, they all have their own take on music. In my mind I see Home Free as Country-ish, Pentatonix more of a Pop sound, and VoicePlay as goofy musical theater. If I could only listen to one, it would be Home Free, them there are my boys.

Just a note, at the end of the video the guys will sometimes give pertinent information regarding the video. Even if you don't show that part, you might find it interesting to go back and listen to what they have to say. A lot of times they will give the location and in this one, they made special note of the fact that Adam Rupp did the arrangement. So glad you are enjoying their music :o)

It's not actually a cover of Dire Straits...exactly. It is a cover of the five part harmony arrangement from the Finnish A Capella group Club For Five. Adam Rupp did this arrangement and did it brilliantly. I've read that he doesn't often do the full arrangements because they're so intricate that a lot of the time the guys can't cover everything. I'm certainly glad they accomplished this one though. It's a masterpiece of complexity. I never get tired of it. It's a toss up between if Tim's dragon breath will melt the ice castle or cause it to collapse from the deep vibrations of his tone. And Austin with the funky guitar sounds and clean vocals. Rob and Chris keep holding everything else down!

No need to compare…just enjoy both. They both won their seasons on the Sing Off. They’re both tremendous groups. They are different which is fun. They filmed this at an ice castle in Minnesota. They talk about it at the end. Adam the beatboxer arranged this and he is amazing. Adam Rupp Drum Solo (2015) will knock your socks off. He’s swallowed a drum kit for sure. Home Free goes more country but they sing all genres. I’m not even a country fan but I love all their music and they have a silly side. Three of the boys are from the south. There was one change since 2013, Chris Rupp (usually wearing a ball cap or cowboy hat) is the beatboxer’s brother and founder of Home Free. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo and was replaced by Chance (baritone/bass). Chance is tremendous too. For non Christmas music try Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood, I Can’t Outrun You, One Man Band. Good reaction and I subscribed.

There is another group in the Trifecta of A Capella and I can’t recall if you’ve listened to them. Voiceplay(Voiceplayers.) Members from each group have collaborated with the others, had help with arraignments and have coached each other on techniques. Home Free has a way to sing every song, with a slightly country twist, and that's what sets them apart from any other acapella group, and I love it. Who ever sings the lead, it would be the perfect choice for that song. They have on point harmonies and vocals, and Adam is out off this world at his percussion. Try their songs, "Cold hard cash", "Warmest winter", "Mary did you know" and must see "Full off cheer".

The difference between Home Free and PTX is that Home Free being all male and bass heavy....with tenors of course has a "richness" to their harmonies that PTX doesn't. PTX are amazing also but on the whole their sound is higher based. Add to the mix Voice Play and Octave and you will never have to listen to groups/bands with instruments again. New subscriber and love your reactions. This and Pentatonix "My favorite things" are my 2 favorite Christmas tunes....as well as "Children go where I send thee" ft. Kenny Rodgers and HF "Mary did you know"..The beat is an actual vocal..and the bass is covered by Chris Rupp (Co-Founder of HF with his brother Adam Rupp) while Tim Foust (the bass) sings lead. In newer videos, Adam Chance covered bass when Tim sings lead. This was arranged by Adam Rupp, the beat boxer. You don't have to like one over the other...they both are fantastic and compliment each other with different genres and styles. You may want to look for "ADam Rupp Drum Solo" and look for the older one where he is wearing Red Flannel....then look for newer ones to see how he has improved and added to his "sound" collection. He is more of a vocal percussionist, as you mentioned, he mimics what an actual drummer would do and several drummers have reacted and said the same thing. They ALL can do basic beat boxing as well...check out 9 to 5 live with beatbox breakdown for a taste of what you get during their concerts.

Enjoyed watching you enjoy! I don't know if anyone below has told you but Adam Rupp, their beat boxer, arranged this song for the band. From what I understand, they held back on it for a while because they don't like to record songs they can't sing live. Once they got that straight, they recorded. First time I heard it I was absolutely floored, seemed like an unexpected turn of sound in every line of the lyrics. Loved it. Never get tired of hearing it, and the live performances are just as good. And yes, those triple beats are all Adam. When you get a chance, watch one of his solo beatboxing videos filmed during their concerts. He's amazing and just keeps getting better. It seems they all do.

It's absolutely all vocally produced. Adam, the beatboxer did this arrangement. Never doubt the endless talent of these guys. 😉 Best group ever!! Powerhouse of talents. 🥰 Now you see why the urgency of this song .🤣 And no need to compare or pick a favorite. We all love both groups for their own strengths. Home Fries appreciate the humbleness & that they don't "over" try or put the Flash about them, they just stand there & sing, and its glorious. 😊😍

Adam Rupp also arranged this. If you think he was impressive here, you have to see him do his solo live. I saw them in concert last Sunday and I was mesmerized by what he can do.

So glad you did this one. With your music knowledge, I knew you would be able to appreciate it. It is a very complex song yet they do perform it live and it is just as stunning. No need to choose a favorite. Pentatonix and Home Free have uniquely different styles, which makes the flood of Christmas music from them both a sheer joy. Oh and it was filmed in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota at the ice castle built that year. (It's a yearly thing, taking place in a different suburb each year. And each year, they design and build an ice castle so each year the castle looks different.)

This was arranged by none other then the beatboxer Adam Rupp. They did a phenomenal job with this song. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song. Oh by the way it was filmed in Minnesota at the traveling ice castle.

I really enjoy your reactions and look forward to more on my favorite group. I know you have recently listened to the PTX version of "Mary do you know" which was a beautiful rendition. Home Free has released their verion of that song and it is worth a listen, but maybe you will want to save this for Xmas day. The thing about these guys is their wonderful sense of humor they will dazzle you with their flawless vocals and at the same time make you laugh. They have a wonderful song "Cold Hard Cash for Xmas" and "Grandma got ran over by a reindeer" if you are looking for a little lighter side of Home Free. For the New Years you should check out their version of "Auld Lang Syne"

Told ya! There's a reactor who's a professional drummer, and he loves Adam Rupp's percussion. He says he does things a real drummer would do, and doesn't so things a drummer wouldn't. I've read that he learned to actually play the drums so he could beatbox more authentically.

The truly AWESOME thing Larry is that we don't have to choose between the two groups. We are truly blessed in having BOTH PTX and Home Free to enlighten our hearts and pleasure our ears with beautiful Christmas music to take the place of the usual tasteless drivel we are bombarded with everywhere.

Adam the Beatboxer is called the Freak of Nature. Why do you feel this need to "compare" just enjoy the music from all the groups. Why not do some of their newer music, the ones with Adam Chance in them.

Thank you! Any beat you hear is all Adam Rupp! I finally saw Home Free live online for the first time, and hearing this and Adam Rupp’s solo was phenomenal . That is what makes this so impressive, they sound even better singing this during a show. This doesn’t have a lot of vocal layering, Adam Rupp made an a brilliant arrangement.

I love Home Free and I love your input you explain it so well and it makes me hear them in a different way. I hope you don’t give up on them after Christmas and still listen to them. They have made me cry with Go rest high on that mountain, but they also have a funny side and made me laugh with never gone to give you up. I can’t say enough of how much I love these guys. Maybe you could listen to their version of Mary do you know as I know you have listen to Pentatonix’s version which I love as well but. I joined you when you started with Home Free or I would not have found you I don’t know if you have a music background but you seem very knowledgeable on music I am not I just know what I like. These guy's are not just Amazing talented musicians but are also incredibly kind, caring and beautiful hearted gentlemen! They truly care and appreciate their fans and have publicly spoken in interviews, radio, magazine articles ect... how much we mean to them! They have said many times that they think of the Home Fry's as family members! They are Remarkable humans! Still very humble and down to earth as they were in the beginning! For a non Christmas song you might enjoy - " COME GO WITH ME " cover of The Dell Vikings by Tim Foust bass singer of Home Free. Get ready for something very different and special!!! " BROTHER'S IN ARM'S " original writer Mark Knopfler and recorded by Mark Knopfler and his group Dire Straits! You’ve just posted 2 of my favorite HF Christmas songs. I may be repeating myself, but I am highly recommending HF in 2013 at the Hosanna concert singing their version of “Joy to the World”.(this is in the video title). It’s a sophisticated, jazzy, gospel arrangement. Rob sings lead, and he really digs deep. I wish we could hear him go off like this more often. There’s even a beatbox breakdown, which makes it even better. You probably won’t have many people’liking’ this as it is a hidden gem…only has about 4,000 views, and it deserves a lot more. I’ve been on a mission to get reactors to give this some play…it deserves to be heard.

Thanks for the great reaction! I would like to suggest two songs. First is Warmest Winter, co written by Home Free’s high tenor, Austin Brown. It is the title track from their last Christmas album. The second one is Full of Cheer, co written by Home Free’s Bass, Tim Foust and was the title track for their Christmas album Full of Cheer. Merry Christmas!

Larry, You need to compare Home Free's Mary did you know VS Pentatonix Mary did you know. That will be a tough one. However, In my opinion. Home Free did it better. About the Beatboxer Adam Rupp. They call him the Human Drum kit. I seen them live this past October. They sounded just like they do on Video. Also. Adam Rupp's Beatbox Solo. Also on Video. Will prove the Human Drum kit. He did it in concert as well.
