You all voted for the month of November and DJANGO UNCHAINED was the winner! An Iconic Quentin Tarantino Film Starring Jamie Fox’s and Leonardo DiCaprio. Two years before the Civil War, Django (Jamie Foxx), a slave, finds himself accompanying an unorthodox German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) on a mission to capture the vicious Brittle brothers. Their mission successful, Schultz frees Django, and together they hunt the South's most-wanted criminals. Their travels take them to the infamous plantation of shady Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), where Django's long-lost wife (Kerry Washington) is still a slave. This is an awesome movie and we enjoyed taking a look at this Classic

I feel like everyone brought their A game to this production. And I always had a crush on Kerry Washington, after this movie I was in love with her. She was so sweet and lovely in her character, just someone you want to protect. I can't pinpoint one stand out performance, everyone was amazing.

I feel like because of Waltz, Jackson, DiCaprio, and Foxx she gets overlooked, she was phenomenal in this.

Re what Dr Shultz said about Alexandre Dumas being black, just in case anyone was doubting him: Alexandre Dumas's paternal grandmother was a slave of African-Caribbean descent bought by a French marquis to be his concubine in one of the French colonies (he also bought her daughter from an earlier relationship). He had two daughters and a son with her, the son was called Thomas-Alexandre. Before returning to France he sold her and her children (meaning both the daughter that she'd already had with someone else and his own three children with her) but bought Thomas-Alexandre back shortly afterwards and took him to France with him. In France Thomas-Alexandre eventually was given his freedom, and joined the French army, taking the name Dumas (either because he could not legally take his father's name, or as an act of defiance, I"m not sure which) which had apparently been given to his mother and apparently meant that she was farm property. At the age of 31, Thomas-Alexandre Dumas became the first man of African descent to be given the title and position of General in the French army, with 50,000 men at his command. Apparently due to a victory of his somewhere in Germany or Austria they started to refer to him in the region as 'the black devil'. He openly defied Napoleon on a personal level though he served in the army out of loyalty to the republic. When Napoleon became Emperor of France he reinstated many of the slave and race laws France had had before the revolution and from what I can tell did everything he could to make General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas's life as difficult as it could, including his marriage to a presumably white woman (all I know is that she was an innkeeper's daughter). Though he died when his son Alexandre was only three, it's believed (though not proven) that Alexandre Dumas based his leading characters on the stories he had heard about his father, thereby immortalising him in spite of Napoleon's attempts. So yes, Alexandre Dumas's approval of a slave being ripped to pieces would be dubious, and both his accomplishments and his father's accomplishments also prove Monsieur Candie's beliefs about what black people are capable and incapable of doing are as Django put it, "horses***". Along with the fact that some time before being given the title of General, Thomas-Alexandre was a lieutenant to Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St-Georges who was a colonel in the first all-black regiment in Europe. Joseph Bologne was likewise the son of a minor French nobleman (or at least a planter) and a house slave, born in a French colony, taken to France and educated by his father who'd been given the title Chevalier and was well-known in France before the revolution for his (by all accounts) remarkable skills as a fencer, violinist, conductor and composer. There's a movie about him coming out next year, called 'Chevalier': kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y33XdHx_osuGec0

27:09 The fact that Leonardo DiCaprio injured himself during this scene and kept on going makes this scene more intense. Hell of an actor.

Just wanted to add that I went on a Tarantino interview binge this past week. He did address the rumors about Kanye West. He stated that yes, Kanye did have a comedic idea to be a slave in the Gold Digger interview, but that that the what he did in the video had nothing to do with the Django, other than it involving slavery. And he said, which can be clarified with past interviews well before the release of Gold Digger or Late Registration, that he had been writing the idea for the Django script years before he ever met Kanye. But thought the original idea that Kanye had for the Gold Digger video was brilliant he wishes he had done it. Great reaction though. This movie never gets old. QT is truly a goat and is the person who made movies really exciting for me as a young teenager. Watching his movies in the theaters is a great experience as well. As someone who loves to read and dialogue, I have tremendous respect for his craft and the details within his movies.

We almost got a sequel to this movie, A script was written where Djando and Zorro team up. The man in the Club that asks Django if he knows how to spell Django was Franco Nero the original Django. Leo did cut his hand in the Dining Room scene but being the true pro he is he continued the scene, Leo had a hard time saying the "N' word. Quentin Tarantino, Jamie Fox and Samuel L Jackson had to convince him it was OK because ir was necessary for his character. The mine company employee who gets blown was Quentin Tarantino. A lot of Cameos in the movie such as Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, Zoe Bell, Jonah Hill and Tom Wopat,

Christophe Waltz's performance was great, but Samuel L Jackson should have gotten the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Stephen is such an amazing portrayal of how slavery can warp people.
