"Blood Spray on the flowers" I loved the shot as well but those flowers are cotton flowers. Such amazing symbolism by Tarantino.

I love this movie. I think it tackles some sensitive subject matter in a tolerable way while still painting it in a bad light. The acting is superb. The tension in the dinner scene is palpable. Somehow, Quentin still found a way to make it "over-the-top" and fun, especially the scene where she says, "Bye, Miss Laura," and she gets absolutely _yanked_ out of the doorway. It's a tale about how immediate victory isn't always the answer. Sometimes, the long game is the better play.

One thing I do appreciate is that Tarantino put "Two years before the Civil War" right at the start of this film. It's a nice little reminder that we are about to see some really, really awful shit inflicted on the slaves, but that there *are* other people in this country who are more like Schulz and in just a few short years, they will fight a war against their own fellow Americans to help those who are suffering.
@Kidapollo92Ай бұрын
The funny thing is that as clever as Stephen is he is forced to play second fiddle to Miss Candy. Stephen is the one who caught on to the act Django and King Schulz are putting on to get Broomhilda. This is the opposite of Django, who has status out in the open but is forced to play a role to gain what he wants. Sprhen can be himself could be in private with Calvin but not in the open.

The blood sprayed on the cotton. Also, Quentin is known to use the same person for a couple of roles. Not every movie of course. That was Leo's real blood. He accidently cut his hand slamming it on table. They kept filming. Apparently he got a standing ovation from Quentin and everyone else for that scene when cut was called.

Personal observation: Candy isn't Django's villain, he's King's villain because they are diametrically opposed characters. Django's villain is Stephen for the exact same reason. That's why King and Calvin's stories end 1 after the other while Django and Stephen carry on till the ending.

Quentin is a huge fan of movies of the 70s. That "grainy" film pops and actual film movements (instead of digital) make a more classic look. Plus, before the civil war, the KKK did not exist. It was in the aftermath of the war that the organization was created.

There was a theory that she and Jango and the children in the photo and also she is wearing the scarf to cover part of her face that is missing, but I would love to know if this was ever confirmed by Tarantino.

There's another point of view for Schultz shooting Candy. See, Django and Brunhilde were okay with accepting what Candy was doing in order to just get away safely, but Schultz couldn't just let it go. He couldn't put his feelings aside even to allow Django and Brunhilde to not have to struggle to finally get their freedom. It's like being pulled over by the police with your friend in the car and the cop is being an asshole and the friend decides to argue and make trouble. They could have just put that aside, even if just for your sake, to let things go smoothly, but instead they escalate things and then you're both in a messed situation. He picked a bad battle when he didn't have to die.

Here's a weird thought: Calvin Candie is not really particularly racist (relatively speaking). He respects Stephen, and views and treats him as (at least) an equal. He instantly accepts Django as a member of his circle, and does not dispute his place at the table (literally and figuratively). Everyone else doubts and dismisses both Django and Stephen, but Calvin doesn't care. Nobody else can't see past the skin color, but that doesn't even slow Candie down. Evil, yes. Racist? Probably, but much less so than everyone else.
