Both are excellent revenge movies. Christoph Waltz play one of the most diabolical villains I've ever seen in cinema. As well as playing a very good friend in the other movie.

The performance of Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa was so terrifying and iconic. It made more sense why he is casted to play Blofeld in Spectre as James Bond's nemesis with a twist.

The genius of introducing Hans Landa as an absolute psychopath is what drives the movie for me. You never know when he knows what is going on and is just keeping up appearances until he can make his move. The farm scene, the Strüdel scene, the foyer in the cinema, all of them are nail biters because his side of the story is never told and have to wait to find out. The basement bar scene is similar. Django Unchained is more an action-revenge movie with some suspenseful scenes, while Inglorious Basterds is a true action-thriller. Why is Tarantino's name misspelled on the books at 10:05?

Hans Landa's role was much more difficult and complex than King S., that was the only mistake here. According to Tarantino himself Waltz was the only actor in the world who could fluently speak French, German, Italian and English and pull off the role which the entire movie depended on.

Picking your favorite QT film is like picking your favorite Pixar or MCU movie, it almost can't be done with 100% certainty. I love both these movies but Pulp Fiction is so damn great but I love Once Opon A Time In Hollywood but Kill Bill is amazing but but but...if your a fan you get it. The only 100%'s with me are I think Reservoir Dogs is his most overrated (still good, just not as good imho as his others) and Jackie Brown is his most underrated (also imho).

Django more violent than Basterds? Imo, Inglorious Basterds is more violent (shocking) as it's more up close and personal. In Django, Tarantino doesn't show the most really violent acts. He implies them. You don't actually see much of the dogs mauling the slave or see the Mandingo fighter gouge out another fighter's eyes or crush his head with a hammer. Many scenes in Django, like the shower scene in Scarface, the violence is only implied. (which can sometimes makes it worse as you're left to your imagination) Basterds violence more up close and *personal*: The baseball bat scene, the scalping, the bar shooting was really close, the swastikas carved into foreheads, Shoshanna and Fridrick killing each other in the projection room, showing exactly how Hugo Stiglitz killed high ranking Germans, etc. I think IB edges out Django as its violence is either right in your face, or involving a character you're really invested in.

I liked Django but was honestly disappointed by it coming off of Inglorious Bastards. Imo IB reset the bar so high for Tarantino after a decade of films by him failed to interest me, that I was eagerly waiting to see what he’d follow up with. Django, while not bad, was simply nowhere near as strong as IB.
