You are 100% right. I was a hobby dj some 10 years back but I stopped doing it because I wasn’t getting any better. Then, one day I came across one of DJ Carlo’s videos and I started to feel like I can try this again. 2 months later, bought a new controller, headphones, software, subscriptions and started mixing. I learned in 1 month of watching Carlo’s videos more then I could have never imagined. Big kudos and thanks. Perfect way of keeping it short and simple, but still detailed enough so that we understand it. ❤

I love this tutorial. When I watched your set from the Redbull 3threeplay competition, I was amazed not only on how well you do tone play, but how many times you did it and how you used it to crossover from so many different genres on music.

DJ Carlo Atendido Well I play the most time Afrobeats and Dancehall. But I think, it would be also good to show it with hip hop or pop tracks. The most important question is for me, how not to decrease the energy with the new track. Or it’s only my feeling.

Awesome lesson again, thanks a lot! I've got a question, not really connected to this topic, but to the controller you're using. I see it only has RCA output, so I've been wondering if you can connect it to bigger speakers (by using adapters for example), or it's just for home practice. I'm about to buy my first gear, a DDJ SB3, but I don't want it for home practice... so what do you think, could I use it for gigs as well?

Is Tone Play the same as Pitch Play and/or Keyboard mode? Looking into buying a controller that will allow me to do this
@djcarlo2 жыл бұрын
They are different. Toneplay is about playing the tones within a song, while pitch play is manipulating a song's sample and changing it's pitch. It's like toneplay but cheating lol
@Underdog_Basketball2 жыл бұрын
@@djcarlo ohhhh!!! I get it now. So you can basically do tone play with just cue points while pitch play takes the same actual tone and manipulates it digitally. I get it now! Very interesting. 1) But how to set the hotcue so that on a deck, it plays and stops (as it is on your left deck), and on the other deck does it play without stopping the song (like on your right deck)? 2) I know that in the hotcue settings you have the gate option. But it will apply to both decks. Right?

I am wanting to buy a new controller - I want one which isn’t too expensive, has loads of features for me to use and play for parties but nothing too complex, what controller do you think I should get ? DDJ SB3 or DDJ RB? Serato or Rekordbox ? What’s the difference I currently use virtual dj, I wanna make a jump to either with a controller what do you suggest ? Does the DDJ XP1 work with Serato ? And last what is the best secondary midi controller to get ( not beginner level or complex - in between) Thank you very much if you reply :)

Hi DJ Carlo. Thanks for all the tutorial videos! It really help beginners like me alot. I've downloaded the tracks you uploaded for tone play, and I am more curious on how you actually edit those songs? Because the actual song of Semi-Charmed Life doesn't have that kind of beat you uploaded, and the Tom's Diner song, clearly you edited out just the vocal. Did you use some sort of DAW software to do that?
@ainouta1236 жыл бұрын
DJ Carlo Atendido Thanks for the reply! May i know which dj software you use? I know i am asking too much, but i am very new in this, thus need someone to shed some light 😅. Did you produce the beat yourself?
