I just wanna say I've been djaying since the 80's hip hop funk soul boogie jazz you get the point. Like most Hip Hop days we got on the technology wave serato, Traktor etc. Sole some records and loads went in to storage and are in various places I've had records that have been in storage about 10 years I was recently as to do but it was 45s only I LOVED IT and now I haven't put my laptop on since all my dj instinct came flowing back all the stuff that I didn't realise I had lost. I'm even gonna rally some djs that I know have a great collection of 45s and put on a night. 45s RULE 🤣🤣

I just started my vinyl journey last year with the purchase of a Pro Ject DB3 and some records I got from my dad. Findinf your channel is probably one of the best things I found so far here on YT. These 12inch adapters for singles are great. Thanks mate. Earned a sub.

I had a hunderd of these back in the late 70s to early 80s...then moved onto cassette tapes & vinyls...12" had better quality & longer versions for singles,bt I always bought the albums cos I wanted the whole package...george benson's "breezin" was my 1st 45...compared to my older brothers funk & motown ones...great to see someone still considers using them

Being in awe by "The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel" I can still remember buying myself two 45s of Chic's "Good times", which had the 8 min version on them and scratching the heck out of them on my 1200's until they literally became unplayable.

I've been collecting and playing out on sevens now for coming up to eight years, and it has revolutionised my sets. The main thing for me is the dynamism of the set: you have to make your choice, find your cue and do the mix within three or four minutes - it just keeps things exciting for me and, by reflection, for the dance-floor. If I could ask you one thing please: just shut up about it! Please don't flood the market with DJs playing sevens - I enjoy the notoriety and the exclusiveness! Also, you're going to push the prices up....

I agree 100%. The energy stays up when you're playing 7"s. No sitting around for 6 to 8 minutes waiting to mix your next track.

I notice that you are using a turntable with a straight tone arm . This is fine for 12" singles but not for 7" singles as the tracking arc is wrong. To rectify this issue you should use a headshell so that the cartridge can be mounted at an angle. Using the Ortophon concord tends to cause the records to jump or stick as you get towards the end of the records. Try using a alignment tool to get the correct tracking arc .

Totally agree...just a few weeks ago I've played a whole set in the club with *only* 7"singles. The photographer there said: "Wow, those little records are sooo damn *sexy* !!!"...while photographin' my decks like mad. xD When I started Dj-ing, I made lots of mixes with only 7"s, because it's harder...and yes, it made me better...^^ My 1st record was a 7" too, back in the 80s...I always loved that format & always will.

Hey - that was a really interesting piece - thanks for making the time, I learnt a lot, specifically about techniques of carrying the tune through. Where do you get the donuts from? They do seem better that the twisters.... Can I provide a reflection? I play off predominantly 45's and some 12's - all vinyl, I have two residencies in Newcastle and they are always rocking! - it depends what you play in terms of whether it works or not? I was playing in a festival in Ireland last year and I played just before Norman Jay (who rocked up with CDs) and I was speaking to jerry dammers after and he said my set sounded loads better as vinyl sounded much better than the CDs that were being used. There are a number of djs that use the 45 format, I think of jerry - who is a wicked reggae DJ and also Andy smith (of portishead/the document fame) who runs nights, all off 45 format. There is also that immense Mr Thing boiler room set! Anyhoo - all good keep the great work goin...

7” are so much fun! 😊 A couple of critisism though: 1) Can’t believe how careless you handle your records. It’s almost unbearable to watch you constantly plant your greasy fingers directly on the grooves. 2) Rough cardbord under playing record will for sure scratch it. 3) When adding accessories directly on the platter to secure better grip, height adjusment of the tonearm should be made, to secure correct tracking of the stylus.

Well done! Here's another type of 45rpm / 7 inch stabilization that can also be used on 12" & 10" records by placing the 45 adaptor on top of the 12"/10" then adding the weight. While it's not as heavy as the Mastersound, it is MUCH lower profile which is handy if want to be able to hand the record without the stabilizer in your way. Here is a link to what I'm talking about at Turntable Lab - turntablelab.com/products/osmose-sound-dj-osmose-7-vinyl-record-stabilizer

if you're bound to use just 45s, then i rather use CDs. What's the difference on spinning small vinyl on a spinning platter of a CDJ? plus you got a lot of song titles on a CD vs a back to back 2 titles, yes the quality of music is there because it's a vinyl but the hands free of 45" mixing and scratching will kill your skills. 12" is always the right to go with a vinyl

On a more serious note... That's part of the challenge of 45 mixing. You have to do more drop mixes, much shorter beatmatched transitions, that kind of stuff. It's worth trying to do that with other formats, even if you can't/don't play 45s. A lot of the time we get too comfortable (myself included) having nice intros to mix with.

+nacho martin, +MojaxxVDJ and +VoiceActingGod are right... you have to really know yor records because of the limited amount of time you have a) choose a track b) adjust your tempo c) get in the mix. Usually 4 to 8 bars and then BAM! If you watch this short clip of me having a little practice session, you'll get the idea. Of course, I still have loads of room to improve but it might help you :) facebook.com/tee.cardaci/videos/10209299594340771/

What do you guys think sounds better 45's 7inches or 331/2 12 inch records? I do know in the UK they pressed alot of Records at 45rpm, even alot of the 12 inches. Definitely Vinyl is the best format when it comes to sound quality.
@michaelhorgan9525
@michaelhorgan9525 8 жыл бұрын
45 RPM has the best sound quality according to those who press vinyl, but you can't hold as much song per side, so that is why they use 33 rpm as you can hold (18 mins on 33, 12 mins on 45).

...they developed the 12" for a much louder cut which is physically impossible with a 45...aside from little scratch records and the odd funk/soul edit they won't gel with 12's and digital tracks and really only applicable for portable scratch dj's...this is purely marketing and gimmickry.
