Andy Gibb was born the fourth child of Hugh and Barbara Gibb on March 5, 1958 just before the family relocated to Australia. Nine years later the family decided to return to England to help shore up the recording careers of Robin, Maurice and Barry.
It was an astute move as the Bee Gees got their first #1 hit "New York Mining Disaster 1941". Three years later, Mom, Dad and Andy moved to Ibiza an island off of Spain. Andy began to perform and got a personal assistant who got him his first gig, performing for Swedish tourists, particularly the 16-24 age bracket who were 90% girls. Soon, the Franco regime began to restict the family so they relocated to the Isle of Man where Andy continued cultivating his career.
Barry and manager Robert Stigwood advised Andy to return to Australia. He released his first single "Words & Music" which became a huge Australian hit. That is when the Bee Gees started to support their youngest brother and began to write songs for his first album.
It was Barry who came up with the melody and then Andy wrote the lyrics for it and three other songs. "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" was to be his first single from the album, but on second thought went with "I Just Want To Be Your Everything". It was the lowest new entry that week at #88. It took fourteen weeks and by then it was the #1 song in the nation spending four weeks at the top. The debut single became my song of the summer, it was everywhere like Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up".
The song spent three weeks at #1, yielding to the Emotions Best Of My Love that spent five weeks there. Andy's song dropped to #3 but rebounded to take the top spot for one more week.
