My parents were friends of the late and honorable Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and his Hazel Scott. I remember going to church and listening to Rev. Powell and seeing all the dignitaries on Sunday mornings. This was all before my parents made their final separation from one another and the great Adam C Powell Jr. and affectionately called by me my Aunt Hazel. I would love to have those days again, fighting for the right to be Free and respected, while keeping our own selves and communities clean, respected yet inequitable...But one thing We had pride in who we were and we were united. Fast forward some 50 yrs later...Look what we have poverty, a false sense of pride, children who believe they are entitled to whatever they ask for; disrespect for ourselves, our communities, each other. Preachers with big churches who play the same "Ol-G role as do the rappers our children worship. Mega Pastors who have forgotten where they have come from, and still expect the poor members to pay for their airplanes, Rolls Royces , and cover up their sexual misconduct...Sounds like politics to me. Or maybe it's just what you ask for when you seek a King and you backstab your true friends and fail to vote. Et tu Brute.

I watched this movie two times. Although it was a good move, (Harry Lennix nailed it as Adam Clayton Powel), it only gives an overview of his life. Now I have to read his biography and autobiography. There's obviously more to this man than any movie can reveal.

I've heard of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. before, but never truly knew of his contributions to civil rights. I was googling Harry Lennix which guided me to this movie. Anyways, we need more focus on our unsung heroes of the movement outside of the mainstaples such as Dr. King. Both men stood for justice for people of color, albeit in their own ways, but nevertheless fought a good fight that changed the laws of the land. My prayer, is that we continue the fight that our ancestors started because there is more work to be done.

He did have humility, however, when you have to walk among the Pitbulls,Rottweilers, and Doberman Pincher, you must not flinch not even an inch. If you did not know Rev. Ironically, I was reunited with Keep The Faith Baby on today… after having stumbled upon the JohnHenry1869 posted video about Mr. Powell on yesterday. Their portrayal of Hazel Scott is a farce first of all yes she was born in Trinidad but her so cold grandiose or feelings of superiority with only educational and that's only when it came to fellow White she came to this country at 4 years old she considered herself African-American of Trinidadian descent but never use that it was outside of such as Adam Clayton who decided to differentiate and met her Superior because she was from Trinidad and not African American so to speak but she was very much so and she also fought for the rights of black entertainers in Hollywood she refused to work for three days which cost $40,000 at that time because the movie she was in did not depict black women and the way she felt they should she got what she wanted she was the first to only play herself in any role that she did she never played a maid nor Mammy no prostitute

I believe one of the major reasons why this movie wasn't successful was because they cast the wrong guy to play the role of Powell. As crazy as this may sound, IMO a white guy with a heavy sun tan would have been best to play the part of Powell. The fact of matter is that he did look like a white man.
