Here we see another eight R32s that are slated to be taken off of MTA property and scrapped being transferred by diesels from Coney Island Yard to 38th St Yard. Enjoy this rare view of the end of an NYC Subway car's life!

I wander if we can save some examples using crowdfunding. I know the subway have a few in their transit museum but I want to see some of them preserved in parks, houses and made into cafes or theme park assets. These cars are work of art itself which cannot be replicated. They are important cultural artifact representing American history. Greeting from Japan.

This video brings back many memories: Used to live in that neighborhood near the 25th Ave station. The opening clip from Saturday Night Fever movie (1977) was filmed right by the 20th Ave station with trains passing by. And these R32 Budd Silverbirds once ran on this BMT West End line, back when the (B) was on it. The graffiti and M-logo on one of the cars (I think #3786) also remind me of before these were re-built in late 80's. There was no A/C, just overhead fans, blue doors, teardrop hang-straps, aqua-blue seats and the rest was graffiti. Hard to believe these been around for 58 years and these are the last of the old-hicans. Once those R211's enter service I believe the next ones to go are the R46 Pullman Standards. These were my favorite trains! A/C was ALWAYS cold during the summer and the heat was ALWAYS warm in the winter. I'll miss them. They were good trains!

They will be sent to Ohio to be cut up for scrap, then scrap will be sent out to a steel mill to melt down and refabricated into new sheets of steel for new products.

The R42s that retired in early 2020. I can't recall off the top of my head as to how accurate this is but apparently all fifty remaining R42s are still around for use as garbage motors as we speak. Still hoping other rail museums would be interested in purchasing a few R32s to feature them either Upstate or out-of-state. I'd love to see the Trolley Museum in Kingston, NY acquire a pair of 32s.

Some cars did have them stripped. For the most part, it’s the rollsigns that are being stripped. I’m also certain there’s many other parts being stripped, perhaps to restore other museum cars.

This is a disgrace & the boo of the week & year. To see these what was the remainder of the R 32 cars getting scrapped & for what?! They were in excellent condition on the last trips it made! Its like me throwing out my priceless kitchen stainless steel utensils for cheap plastic ones. I wish more had been done to prevent such a railroad tragedy like this!' This has made me very ill!😷 I am beyond sad in fact i'm infuriated! 😖 R 32 cars you're the best! (t.a.) I will always carry that logo with me &, my many rides with you, in my mind & heart forever as a railroader. 💙❤

They were the best steel ever built! Sorry i disagree with you! Other trains are saved like steam engines & are much older than the R 32 cars they've been treasured like UNIION PACIFIC BIG BOY & those have been preserved well. & many excursion trips, yet NYCTA couldn't even save these cars give me a break!

For its age it certainly rode well & i'm tired of all the debates about it! The Trains Of Many Colors need repainting & body work. I saw them on The Yankees opening day. As for the R 32 cars All my friends didn't want to see these relics scrapped.either & as for the R 32 cars another bad call, just to get those crappy R 211 cars in? I care to differ with you i am very old school with the R 32 cars. I didn't want these cars get treated & scrapped like junk like this! I have kitchen utensils about the same age as the cars & i am not stupid to sell them for scrap! To me they were worth saving! Besides myself other train buffs & fellow railroaders have complained & upset & would disagree with you!
