And fewer calls for police assistance. 'Why bother? They come hours later or tell us to come to the precinct. If someone is arrested, they are released soon after, the DA rarely prosecutes, and if that happens the court gives a slap on the wrist.'

That is the same problem we have in California. I grew up in NYC and moved to California 22 years ago. Both NYC and California are a F***ing DUMP due to no prosecution and rampant theft. You can steal $1000 bucks worth of stuff in California and the system WILL NOT prosecute. After 22 years, we too are now leaving California. San Francisco is a Dump and many big retail and small business have left. I have just one and one question....Where the hell does our tax dollars go, oh wait let me see....to other countries and politicians pockets. I am sick, sick, sick and extremely tired of it.

My ancestors arrived in San Francisco from Germany in the late 1880s. All was lovely - I lived and worked there in the 1960s. The streets were safe, no theft, no trash. . . until 1964 when the Democrats took over and it's been a steady decline since. Kamala was DA and refused to prosecute, so drugs and crime took over.

As a senior citizen, I'm glad I saw New York one more time and doubt if I'll ever be back. Not that it's a consolation, but the crime, the drugs, the shoplifting, the bums camping out are happening in the other major cities, but probably faster in NYC. I mean New York City has been extremely diverse for multiple decades. Seems to me like the root of this issue has more to do with the people in charge at the municipal and federal level than anything else. Other than that, I generally agree with your sentiment. Edit: In the year 2000, merely 34% of the NYC population were white. My grandfather, who fought for Nazi Germany in WWII, was wounded in combat and taken as a POW, was less racist than many people commenting on this thread. I think that when legislators decided to allow up to $900 per day (or per incident) of thievery -- and classified it as only a "misdemeanor" -- maybe these events aren't counted in the crime statistics. That might explain why some stores are getting robbed multiple times per day, but the statistics show that crime is "down." Same with car smash-and-grabs, bag snatching, and so on. What actually gets counted as a crime these days?

In the 1970s, you could take all 40 newspapers from a vending machine for a quarter but nobody did - they just took one. They were called "honor boxes" and every time you closed the door, you'd actually get a tiny boost of pride for not being a scumbag. True story. 🌠TheMoreYouKnow

Did the culture of the US shift dramatically?
@the_omg3242
@the_omg3242 3 ай бұрын
@@-f-r- It's been a pretty gradual shift, but old people notice it. Ever notice how many movies and TV shows there are now where the main character is a criminal or just someone ignoring the law for their own purposes? You don't really see that in old movies, but now it's normal for the bad guy to be the hero. To outsmart the cops who are stupid and corrupt anyways. And all these people robbing stores or subway riders, they're just trying to get by cause the system is against them and they've got no choice. How they supposed to get the latest $2000 smartphone or $500 basketball shoes if they don't steal? They're just trying to be the hero of their crime story.

@@the_omg3242 There is also a MASSIVE shift in consumer habits, even since the 90s. Everyone is buying more than ever before, and throwing it away after one use because it's often fast fashion and made to fall apart so you buy the next trend. Everyone younger than 30 seems obsessed with shopping, to the point where 1 in 20 people are hoarders. There has also been a massive shift away from community and family and towards individuality, and I think it's hurting us a lot. Our birth rate is below replacement level and many people cite the fact that they have no community or family support to raise a kid.

Metros and stations in China, Singapore, Tokyo, and Seoul for example, all offer a super pleasant experience, it's always clean, plenty of stores and other services, friendly service people & security staff, and above all, it is super safe. This is SO sad. I'm from Manhattan. (I moved Down South in August of 1995.) Anyway, I used to go to the "Subway Retail Stores." In fact, there was a jewelry store in the subway on 86th and Lexington Avenue. I had my ears pierced there, AND my mother put a wedding ring that she loved on lay-a-way there back in the late 1980s. I'm SO sorry to hear that Manhattan is SO crime ridden, which wasn't the case back then, that the stores are being forced to close. It's the end of an era. I weep for the future of Manhattan. This is the beginning of the end. Mark my words.

There was a time where I thought NYC was an amazing place that I so wanted to visit, but never had the money. Now I do have the money but no longer want to visit it, as it seems everything that made the place worth checking out has fallen apart either directly or indirectly due to crime.

If you are falling for the B.S. you are full of it too everytime I see cash make a video I see comment like yours. Truly amazes me as to why people don't ask cash Why is he still living in NYC? Apparently its not that bad. He knows negative videos are going to pull in more views he takes bad areas and old news to make it look like this is happening everyday. Yet, why doesn't he move? Because he knows if he moves to Utah he won't get anymore views of slow people who choose to be scare acting like this is not happening all over this country just look outside the ny news..you'll see that NYC isnt even that bad compare to a lot of places . It needs fixing definitely but I can say the same for many other small cities and states not called NYC. It because its famous so everybody decides to speak as if it never had crime. Crime will never stop it happens with Republican mayors but not as much. But it still exists.

It is so hot in the subway station. There is no Air conditioning in the 59th street subway station shop, you just want to get out as soon as possible.

I commuted to NYC from CT 2008 to 2016 across town to 1000 5th Ave I had to take 2 subway trains from 125th and it was a wonderful time in my life. I walked a ton and felt completely safe and loved all the shops and stands along the way. This is sad and only getting worse unless the working folks take a damned stand!
