@7:09 you said yourself, you're afraid for your new iPhone will fly off while skateboarding. Completely negates your 1st statement that the iPhone is all you need. For most people, they can't afford a thousand dollar phone yet alone use it in every scenario with the peace of mind that if somehow you lose it or drop it, it'll just be fine. Action cameras are relatively cheap (cheaper than an iPhone), they can take a beating (better than an iPhone), you can practically mount it anywhere without worrying too much. Action cameras exist for a reason. But I have to say, you are very good at finding the flaws on the Action2.

So basically you missed the point of action cams altogether. Where's the footage from iPhone surfing? The super wide angle on Action is MUCH broader than iPhone - you may try to talk other but anyone who knows something about it will clearly see the difference. Also zooming? Really? You go on a fast downhill and you want the device to zoom? What is the use case of zooming where you have other gear? If you are somewhere without other gear than well there's a point to that! Nice video, though.

I still think he has a point. I would argue that a huuge amount of people buying these action cameras would not need it if they just used their phone and a proper case/mount. I will say, this will replace my GP10. I use it primarily to record video while I split lanes in LA on my motorcycle. My biggest gripe with the GP10 has been the ridiculous need to sync with the app on your phone to get your date/time or you can manual adjust it. But I swap batteries out all the time so when I take it out it resets the date/time! And then when I try to pull footage off the camera and I haven't set the date/time on any of my videos the naming convention from the GP10 is so bad I want to pull my hair out having to sift through it all at times. At least with the DJI things are simplified, at least from what I remember when I had the first DJI Action camera. I'm looking to using this and having the smaller form factor on my helmet!

The case does not leak, but as the camera heats up it produces that heat to condensate as the case is cooled by the water. There is a type of paper sponge designed to absorbe vapors inside the case. Pretty cheap solution. Condesation is just a phisics fact happening with every camera that requires a case for underwater. Also condesation might happen even if you don't submerge the case under water and use the camera in the case in cold conditions.

Is there any way to use the Action 2 for extended periods with the power module and "high" heat mode? Once it overheats and you swap a new power module or dual screen in does it "reset" the overheating or is it the main unit that needs time to cool down? Does an aluminum case dissipate heat at all? I'd like to use to for 1+ hour sessions, even if it means swapping in a new power module. If it's unable to I'll likely go with the hero10 + Enduro batteries.

The Camera itself and quality is really good……BUT It FELL OFF from the magnetic Lanyard from just moderate activity of riding a bicycle. And with such incredible luck… it FELL exactly when I was crossing a small wooden bridge and right into the river water 😭😭😭 So, now I still have the front camera module and all the other accessories. So should I sell those parts or maybe wait for a sale and get another…. Unfortunately, they don’t just sell the camera unit itself. Also, I am not sure if I have the confident in it anymore. It branded as an action camera and the magnetic lanyard function was one of the driving feature which attracted me for the purchase. If it cannot handle the role of an action camera, they should put a big disclaimer saying the magnetic lanyard CAN ONLY BE USE for slowly walking and have a high chance of falling off with activities!! So I am pretty about that and how DJI advertise it as an action camera and with footage of its use with the lanyard being able to handle rigorous activities. Anyway, perhaps I should just sell the Dual Screen module and get a GoPro instead. As I said early on, the camera quality is very good but don’t rely on it as an action camera. DJI should take out that lanyard magnetic option to help others avoid the loss that I experienced with just moderate activities.

Dji has the osmo for action, but I see this as a very interesting vlogging camera, as it's way better than the front facing camera on a phone, and it's really hard to vlog with a phone anyway. The mics are really good. It clips on a shirt for biking or walking around, it's discreet and really fun in the way the insta 360 go 2 is. It can also be remote controlled from a phone. Phones are fun, bit getting the latest phone every 1 to 2 years is really expensive, so I tend to baby my phone to make it last, plus of someone calls you when filming it's a pain.

This camera is clearly aimed squarely at the GoPro (and clones) action camera market, it's even in the name. I mean you're not gonna strap the iPhone on your helmet, or your dirtbike, or your chest while snowboarding.... are you? Is that huge heavy iPhone suited to riding on racing drones or RC planes, or model rockets, or in the wheel-well of a car to film the suspension action? I was excited to hear DJI had a new action camera out but when I went to their site and took a look I was soon pretty disappointed. My sport is MTBing and crashes happen often and I think this camera has a few issues that'll stop me from buying it. First thing is the lens doesn't seem replaceable, not the end of the world but it's a definite advantage if I can just replace on if I scratch or break it. Secondly not having replaceable batteries is an absolute deal breaker for me, I could be out for hours and if I can't replace batteries then it's next to useless. I also need something that takes an SD card and is waterproof, having to choose one or the other seems pretty backwards and the solution of a waterproof case kills any good audio I could've potentially got (plus being more bulky). I had really hoped for a better product than this, the latest Gopro is very good and I also use the Insta360 One X2 with great results, I won't be buying the Action 2

Most honest review so far...was super excited for the Osmo, now the GoPro 10 looks like a simpler all rounder which we all need....BUTTT for what it's actually needed...might keep my hero 6 with the WG2X waterproof action Cam gimbal
@mingclv3 жыл бұрын
that is really good review. I agree that if a small and water proof camera is used as normal day to day camera, why not use phone. Gopro needs to bring their session back to have smaller unit of action camera,

The modular design is a hard pass for me. Doesn't seem well thought-out. This camera is now a generation behind on high end video specs than the 10 in lieu of magnets? It's not an action cam until you're nearly a grand in with accessories.

Some people will do anything to get away from the GoPro family. After the issues with the 8 and 9, (I currently have a 10), I'm selling and at least trying this.

@@beckinbinderin it's not a replacement for the gooro, not by a long shot, but that's you're prerogative.

@@EverythingIsPhotogenic My GoPro 10 stays at 4k. Nothing more. It's bigger than ever, with the audio issues still leaving a bad memories. Wish me luck.

@@beckinbinderin not sure about the audio issues, honestly I've never had any, even on the 9 which was otherwise a petulant pain in the ass with freezing - great quality but unreliable. The 10 is just a dream by comparison. I have very few criticisms that are not nitpicky. The 10 audio destroys iPhone and Galaxy audio during action as well. Might be worth a support ticket. I wouldn't go to the action 2 instead of the 10. In conjunction? Sure, could be a fun tool... But not a replacement to be sure. I'm pretty bummed at the overheating and modular shortcomings like no SD card in the camera alone or waterproofing in the mods. I wanted to like it.

How’s the quality of the footage compared to GoPro 10?

Yes lets compare two almost completely different gadgets side by side. That'll work

Great honest review. The funny thing is all the other reviewers won't say what they truly think, but by omitting key words and by they way they phrase things, you can tell they all feel the same as you. You just had the balls to actually tell us how you really feel. Thanks for that!

Good video. I do agree a lot. The ultra wide is not wide enough for fpv compared to Gopros superview. So if you need a action cam for fpv like skiing or moutainbike the gopro is the better cam. If you just want to use the camera for normal video, your phone is just so much better, and you always have it on you

Check out potato jets teview on the dji. It's way wider than gp10 and he asked it on his fpv

Good review. Agree with some of the other comments that it is not designed to work in same situation as an iPhone but still interesting comparison. Main drawbacks for me is limited memory and battery without extra attachment. Stated 70 minutes at 1080p in power save mode, I wonder what battery like is at 4K full stabilisation etc probably less than 30 minute which is really rubbish in my mind

Your videos are good in the comparison and testing of the cameras, but the action cameras are for "action" and I hope you would do a test for example with a mtb rider, which is one of the uses that is most likely to be given due to its size

Watched this after watching your newer video. 2 things I'm considering here as an alternative to my phone is 1) 4k 120fps 2) the size makes it so discreet to just mount in my body. My big hesitation is the non-replaceable battery though. I do get overheating also on my 2 year old huawei

I had purchased but cancelled due to this and a couple other honest reviews. The sad part is that I love the form factor, but the overheating thing kills it for me, at least at this price point. They’ll get it straight and, when they do, I’ll pull the trigger.

I’ve seen the Action 2 at DJI store, save the money and get the Insta360 Go 2 instead, it’s smaller, has horizon leveling, can shoot 2.7k 50 FPS, also have magnet, and less hassle to use.

i have 3 sessions batteries going bad ordered this one love the form factor
@pieproducer3 жыл бұрын
I put an order in for one of these as soon as i saw it with the main intention to use it for fpv.i immediately thought this was ideal,i was hasty.After looking into it it has several downsides.main one being it has no gyro data for 3rd party stabilaztion programs.I cancelled the order.such a shame because it is small and light,perfect on that score for fpv but at the end of the day its all about the video and this fall short of the mark on many factors.I literally cancelled the order an hour later.Im going for a gopro10 in the next couple of weeks.

Interesting comparison between this and your iphone. while I agree with some people saying that this isn't a perfect comparison, I see where you're coming from in doing so. regardless, you still exposed some of the serious shortcomings this has as a true GoPro or "action cam" replacement. the magnetic mounting is great in theory, but impractical for most uses in extreme sports as you mentioned, and the metal shavings causing clasping problems is a major concern. the form factor is nice though, and I'm excited to see innovation in this space going forward.
