Not inlove at first sight , seems like this should’ve just been a new product line like the “DJI POV” and kept the traditional form factor of the action. Might be getting the Pocket 2 to pair up with my Original Action. The QS button is a crazy miss

I agree with this. I think they felt the need to hop on the modular train that Insta took off on. I primarily use my A1 for snorkeling so physical power, record, and quick switch buttons are most important. Should've just done he Action 1 with better sensor and wider FOV

@@tenphan0n0 if you already have action 1 why would you want another action 1? i have action 1 and im happy with this action 2. why? because its versatile. i also have dji pocket, insta360 one X2. different cameras for different usecase. if this was just upgraded action 1 , it would be an easy pass. most gopro users are still on older gopros because most people dont need that extra 5k and specs. dji took the innovative route to bring something more unique. for snorkeling stick to action 1, you really don't need anything more. if you want to vlog, get pocket 2, if you want cool 360 get one X2, if you want small magnetic and chest strap camera, get this action 1, or insta360 go 2. i would go for this because more resolution and fps, than the go 2. but thats the categories of the cameras.

Nice review. Howeve,r there are a lot of videos showing the overheating issue with the Action 2 - many are only getting 3-5 minutes of recording then the unit shuts down. I mean its an action camera, you put it on when you are doing action things that are usually more than 3-5 minutes. Heck I have the original action cam and I used it to record in 4K 60 going up and down the Koko Crater trail in Oahu (its a very difficult hike - took about 1.5 hours). Just as I was ending the hike the unit was pretty hot and I had to shutdown. That is my idea of an action camera. I mean 1.5 hours versus 3-5 minutes... yea. I just wished DJI put the horizon steady and wider field of view on an 'updated' Osmo Action cam till they figured out the overheating issues. But you always have great videos. Keep it up bro.

How about the file size? DJI Osmo Action goes 4,1GB per 5min27sec 4K@60fps. Codec supposed to be different in the new one. If the main unit could record 1hr 4K@60fps it would be no brainer. But, no changing port and no SD card in the main unit is quite a disappointment. No lens cover means if you are on a trip and have an accident with your camera, the rest of the trip will be missed from your footage. DJI Care won't work while on vacations. My current DJI Osmo Action lens survived a bike fall in Julian Alps. This one seems such an expensive secondary camera, if anything.

Well done on the review, can't say the same for DJI. I was really looking forward to this next camera and for a number of reasons I think it's hokey and a pass for me. Internal memory of 32G when it should be at least 128G or 256G and exchangeable is prefered, same goes for the battery. If I'm filming an event I want to change out batteries not this stupid add on external battery / memory card slot (that should have a screen on it regardless). you have to take into consideration the osmo action 1 was launched at $350, not the current recent sale price of $200. therefore action 1 at it current prices is a better deal, but this action 2 is a better camera. it can be an action 1 or be a smaller camera. magnetic mounting capabilities, extra features etc. the only advantages of the action 1 is interchangeable batter and lens cover. this compared to one r comes down to preference. this can be mounted on an fpv drone due to size, insta360 and gopro and action 1 are heavy for many fpv drones. with this the camera module works on its own, the insta360 you need to have the battery mod, plus camera mod, plus screen mod all three together for the camera to work. i think so many people are in a rush to judge this, if you carefully analyze the advantages of each system you would find which works for you.

@@truthseeker6804 When a costumer sees a products. Then they compare what is on the market and what they already have. If it then turns out that an older version offers far more value for far less then a newer version, then it becomes more difficult to motivate to want to buy a newer model. Based on this, the company's job is to manufacture new competives products which motivates the customer to spend on new uppgrades in front of older versions. Example from mini 1 to mini 2 we got 4k / 30, better camera, faster, better battery use, and far longer flight distant while at the same time retained what we came to love with mini 1..Aka its size. DJI chose to take a different direction with their action 2, i.e. instead of a more powerful osmo action 2 with the basis of what we came to love with the 1st, aka doing the things we always wanted gopro to add to there action cameras. Which most of us believed they would do with 2. Instead DJI chose to test a new direction which could have been a brand of their own similar to what gopro did with the session or how DJI are doing things with there Drone mavic serie. .Aka Pro is there mavic main serie, Air is there budget serie, S2 is there platinum Air serie, Mini is there entre serie.

I WANT to like this and be excited for this as I was really looking forward to upgrading my action 1, but sadly I'm disappointed. It looks great, but missing some features and just make this a deal breaker and seems like a step back. The lack of interchangeable batteries is a no go in my book. Once the battery performance degrades, what is there to do; buy another camera? Not being able to expand the memory unless adding that screen module is also a let down as the camera will no longer be waterproof. Not being able to replace the lense if you happen to crack it also something to be accounted for. Finally, the camera appears to be overheating quicker than the GP10 😳 As slick as this camera looks, I just see too much going wrong with it. For now, I guess I'll wait.

Agreed, for now I’m going to buy the GoPro Hero 10 which I really didn’t think I would. However, after waiting for this and seeing too many flaws for me personally I’ll update my old GoPro to the 10. Not saying the action 2 is bad, but waterproof only using the main camera then anything after needs a casing. Memory needs an add on, magnet not actually that strong as seen in other reviews and trust issues on how good it will hold up when used as an action camera. Also once in a waterproof case it muffled the mics in another video. GoPro has many faults perhaps, but seems more solid for my usage.

I wish they kept the traditional action cam form factor (Action 1/gopro), and maybe have this as an additional version. So, how long could the main camera module record a 4K 60p stabilized video with the screen on considering it has just 22GB memory and a tiny battery? From what it looks like the camera module itself is just useless apart from recording very short videos of a jump in a pool after which it requires to jump through hoops to somehow get the video into a PC before starting to record another video. Basically, it requires to constantly halt action to download the video.

The Camera itself and quality is really good……BUT It FELL OFF from the magnetic Lanyard from just moderate activity of riding a bicycle. And with such incredible luck… it FELL exactly when I was crossing a small wooden bridge and right into the river water 😭😭😭 So, now I still have the front camera module and all the other accessories. So should I sell those parts or maybe wait for a sale and get another…. Unfortunately, they don’t just sell the camera unit itself. Also, I am not sure if I have the confident in it anymore. It branded as an action camera and the magnetic lanyard function was one of the driving feature which attracted me for the purchase. If it cannot handle the role of an action camera, they should put a big disclaimer saying the magnetic lanyard CAN ONLY BE USE for slowly walking and have a high chance of falling off with activities!! So I am pretty about that and how DJI advertise it as an action camera and with footage of its use with the lanyard being able to handle rigorous activities. Anyway, perhaps I should just sell the Dual Screen module and get a GoPro instead. As I said early on, the camera quality is very good but don’t rely on it as an action camera. DJI should take out that lanyard magnetic option to help others avoid the loss that I experienced with just moderate activities.

Have DJI got something to hide, it seems to be very heavy handed to say the least !

If I’m right, that’s worst than the GoPro 10 people were moaning about. Yet this was when the GP10 was still, not moving so no airflow. The DJI seems to suffer this quicker and in motion. I thought this would be the camera for me, I’m right on the edge now to buying the GP10

Oh, c’mon, what do you expect from the company in a country full of the communists?? You are lucky they didn’t shoot you in the back of your head for that kind of questions😐

Is it possible to attach the power module to the main module, do a quick copy to SD card on power module and then delete user data files on main module? If this could be done quickly this could diminish some of the down side of only having around 22GB+ on Main module but still allow you flexibility to keep using Main Module as solo module. Also, how long does it take the power module to recharge Main Module when attached?

Based on other videos, I think it's possible, but a) you have to start the export manually and b) moving 22 GB to a microSD card will take some time...

Solid product but 22Gb in 2021 is ridiculous. 🤦they could of at least put 64 or 120.

Regarding charging, I hope they make a "dummy" mag-mount with just power (and possibly an SD card) which is as small as possible. My primary purpose is timelapses so super interested in things like long recording and tethered shooting.

@@TimurIskhodzhanov do we know yet how big the battery is in it? I wish i could take the battery out and run it off a Lipo when I wanted to

Can it run from a direct unlimited power like the gopros can? This is a nice feature such as desert racing where you might need power for 8 hours or more. It’s also to note, the GoPro Remote can also work on usb power so it can monitor and be ready indefinitely

Good question. Haven't seen any review test it yet.
