So which image do you prefer out of the 2 cameras? Do you think it's worth the upgrade? Side note: There were a lot more titles in this video but Premiere 22 wouldn't export with any titles so they had to be removed, so sorry for any long shots without context!

I preferred Osmo Action 1 image quality. Not worthy to upgrade.

Thanks for your careful summary. I think the concepts of these cameras are sufficiently different that I'd hesitate to refer to the Action 2 as an upgrade from the original. But personally I've added the 2 to the 1 because of two factors - the surround sound of the Action 2 together with its ability to support external USB audio devices from 3rd parties; and secondly, the horizon locking and other features which are a bit similar to the Insta360 Go 2. This adds scope for all sorts of creative uses.
@ChrisSpice3 жыл бұрын
The audio is a good reason to add the 2 to your collection actually! I took the original Action to Rome and I had to rotate all the shots in editing because the horizon always seemed off, so horizon lock will be handy for sure. I have the Go2 as well and it’s a very fun camera.

come on you don't need to use auto exposure, just make a manual exposure, so the pictures look same exposed.

Very goid comparision, thank you! Just bought an Osmo Action, good price (179 €), good specs, good interface, good image, when the Action 2 came out, because I’am not convinced by the (weird?) concept of the Action2. Prefer also the field of view and image quality of the original Action.

Thanks for watching and good choice! I think there are still some things about the Osmo Action that make it great, but it’s also really good value for money now which is one thing I forgot to mention here!
@MOTOUK12 жыл бұрын
I use in horizontal and the action 2 cannot do this at 16.9 screen :( shame really I suppose a firmware update could fix this! I will continue using Osmo action 1 until they fix if they fix.

Really helpful video thanks Chris -- just bought a second hand A grade Osmo Action, to move over from the Osmo Pocket 1... I think I missed my old GoPro Hero5, and want something a bit more indestructible... it wouldve been the Action 2 but its just too much of a financial stretch -- so great to live vicariously through your videos! Thanks again

I’m keeping the original. For what I do, lower cost, good colors with less or no editing needed. I DO wish it had horizon leveling though.
@IanTed3 жыл бұрын
Got the original, apart from horizon levelling it’s great including the vfm. Combined with my Insta 360 X2 perfect for moto vlogging😀

I having one X2 as well, thinking bring in POV to my video 🤔 will suggest osmo action or action2 be a better choice ya ?

How much time can you shoot in osmo action 1 ?? Btw great video.

That’s just exposure levels on the beach making the difference and not the camera quality

hey nice video, question what are your video settings for the Osmo action 1 when I film with it, its soooo grainy and always looks so washed out and when I try to color the cinelike d in Davinci the footage always just looks so bad even in good lighting :(
@ChrisSpice3 жыл бұрын
I always film 4k50 in the normal picture profile, that’s it! You have to realise that in anything less than great light, it can fall apart. I personally think it raises the shadows and that causes the grain

I just ordered a second Osmo Action 1 as it has been discontinued. Hopefully these will keep me going for the foreseeable. No interest in the Action 2 or Go Pro. I returned a Go Pro 9 and exchanged it for my first Osmo Action.

Excellent info, thanks Chris. DJI is deaf. Tons of GoPro users bitched about the Hero 8 NOT having a removable lens cover, which I'm sure DJI knew about, but nonetheless didn't include one on their Action 2 -- brilliant... not. Everybody (most people?) love the standard design of the Osmo Action, which remains very popular. All DJI had to do was to improve on the original Osmo Action with Action 2's features, and maybe slightly change the color of its body to distinguish it from the original Osmo Action, but then leave everything else about the camera the same (or improve on it with additional features). Unfortunately, the price of the original Osmo Action has been steadily going up since DJI announced that it has or will stop its production. That's unfortunate because they've worked out all/most of its bugs, so you'd think they'd keep it going because they'll get less of them returned, less complaints, more satisfied customers who might be loyal to their brand, etc.
@adrianobanak28242 жыл бұрын
Original Action seems to be more rugged, simpler and is much cheaper. Action 2 has some nice additional features and improvements but also some backdrops, so i think it's not worth the upgrade.

I don't know , has DJI ACTION 2 HDR Video ?!
@ChrisSpice3 жыл бұрын
Nope 👎
@fishsticks76423 жыл бұрын
The Osmo Action's HDR is not stabilized, and only 8-bit. You are better off shooting in D-Cinelike and learning how to grade if you want amazing colors from either of the two cameras.
@PrestonGladd3 жыл бұрын
You cite potato jet to reference the durability and state that it's more fragile, but it took a 60 foot fall in his video, I don't care what action camera you have, its not going to survive a 60 foot fall onto concrete unscathed.
@ChrisSpice3 жыл бұрын
Yeah fair enough, that’s not the best example 😂 I do still think any other action cam would survive a bit more than this. It’s nicely built but kind of feels like a phone without a case.

Great cameras by DJI.Both good performers but Action 2 need some firmware to fix those bugs like overheating,file transfer speed...I feel sorry for Osmo.Still very good camera but no more firmwares.Thanks for nice test.
@ChrisSpice3 жыл бұрын
So I think transfer speed has been improved in the latest firmware as it was in the change log, but overheating is probably an issue with the hardware and not the firmware. I guess you have to decide if that’s a problem for you.
