Indeed, this IS a DJI under the hood, just white labeled from what we can tell in response to the proposed ban possibly. If you removed the names you could not tell the difference between the functionality or quality...

In the UK DJI removed all geofencing about a year ago. I live within a mile of an RAF airfield, before the geofence was removed I would need to obtain permission from the airfield flight control before DJI would unlock the zone. Now if I chose to I could fly whenever I wanted and all I get is a warning that I'm in and FRZ. I thought the removal of geofencing was world wide but from what you're saying that's not the case.

Is the Air available without the "screen" remote, just the regular controller? I use an iPad Mini 6 with my Mini 4K as I need the additional screen size (old age - not as good eyes anymore).

It is not available with the basic RC, only with the RC2. It might be possible to connect a tablet/monitor to the remote via HDMI...

I bought a Specta Air. Flew for the first time this weekend. Only way I can get pics off the drone is to connect w/ USB from the drone to laptop. Is there any way to sync files to Android phone w/out needing a wired connection to a laptop? I don't see a Cogito/Specta mobile app like DJI has....

If you have the rc2 remote and a sd card your drone files you can download straight into the rc remote and it goes on your sd card

@alien drone seeing that the rc2 controller is android based wouldn't it be possible to put a modulator on it and use your phone to access the rc2 remote remotely ?

The only difference I'm aware of is the removal of the geofencing unlock requirement, which didn't work before and the drone was prevented from launching in controlled airspace. Now it launces without issue.

Nice review! But for those with professional shooting needs, the DJI Air 3s seems like the better choice. Its image quality and dynamic range are really impressive, and the low-light performance is amazing. Perfect for capturing night scenes.

@AlienDrones What do you mean the same? Is that the same max alt as the DJI? My friend has never been able to get above 400ft even in the middle of the desert.

@@starhawke380 To be clear, this IS a DJI, just not in name. It is whitelisted by DJI in an attempt to sidestep the potential ban. This drone and the DJI Air 3 have an adjustment that allows the altitude maximum to be raised to 1640'. This is not the same in all drones but in these models it was and is 1640' before and after the firmware update. As a side note, flying above 400' is illegal in the US, even in the middle of the desert, so don't do that in the US. 🤙

Thanks for confirming the geofencing has been removed. I'll have to pick up one of the Air models. It's not just the geofencing that drives me crazy with the DJI drones, it's having to login to DJI before it will release it from being very limited in how far and how high it will fly. I use a tablet that isn't connected to the Internet so I have to make sure I login from home using wifi before I go and not turn off the tablet. Just a real pain.

Nope. Battery and controllers have proprietary firmware/software that makes them unique to Cogito. Everything mechanical (ND Filters, props, landing gear, etc. ) is cross compatible...

My Autel drones don't have geofencing and there's no issue with the FAA whatsoever. Why DJI ever made you have to get permission from Communist China to fly YOUR drone in YOUR own country has always been a puzzle.

They added Geofencing at a time when US Congress, FAA, news media and airline pilots were absolutely terrified of drones operating in the airspace and near airports and when DJI first believed there was going to be a outright ban. This happened before the current geopolitical climate of mistrust between China and the USA..

They do have different firmware and support, which Cogito does not do as well yet, including thing like repair/replacement programs.

There are no spare batteries for this. DJI batteries wont work for the mini 4k so I have been told. ? "Specta" branded batteries are out of stock.

That color is actually in the spectrum that allows us to see the drone farther. Green/Yellow would be best.
